Brief game synopsis:
Surrounded by a society that fears them, superhumans are ruthlessly hunted down and caged by the Department of Unified Protection. When Delsin Rowe discovers his powers he’s forced to run, searching for other superhumans in order to save those he loves from the oppressive D.U.P. now hot on his tail. The choices he makes along the way change the future of everyone around him.

Graphics look great but I didn't even play the second one. I really, really enjoyed the first one but got burnt out on it, especially the repetitive side missions. The first game took me over 40 hours to do everything. I honestly don't want to play a non-sports title that long. 20 hours should be the max for an offline campaign imo and I prefer 12-15 hour lengths. The Uncharted series were a good length.

That seems bizarre to me Infamous has been a fine series and all but I don't think SP has been up to ND's quality.

Looking forward to this on Friday... already pre-ordered the digital version. I imagine I will plat this one like I did Infamous 2 (I'm only missing 1 shard in Infamous).

Doesn't mean anything, Call of Duty sells double or even triple of what The Last of Us does. Second Son is the first open world game, and it's also the first major release on a next gen system that 6 million people have purchased and just want something to play on, so it's going to benefit from a crazy high attach rate. I'm not a huge fan of the series, but I'm going to get it day one regardless because at this point, I literally have nothing to play on the system.
Jaime Griesemer, who served as lead designer on Infamous: Second Son, has left the Sony-owned Sucker Punch Productions. He announced the news on Twitter.
"I'm excited for people to get their hands on it. And yes, I have left [Sucker Punch]," Griesemer said. "Not really talking about it yet, tho."
Before joining Sucker Punch in 2011, Griesemer worked at Bungie for 12 years. His credits include Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, Halo: Reach, and Destiny.

Game seems to be getting favorable reviews... nothing over the top but all-in-all they seem favorable.

Forgot to order this one from Amazon so I'm off to GameStop shortly to pick this bad boy up. Love me some two day online CLEs away from the office.

Pre-order bonus from Gamestop gives you some kind of DLC and a tin case or some such nonsense.

Ah... gotcha. Yeah, I pre-ordered the digital version from PSN. The DLC is supposed to be a bridge between Infamous 2 and Infamous Second Son.

79 right now on metacritic. Seems some people love it, and some people think it's average, meanwhile, the Sony faithful web sites give it a 9.5 or 10. Yep, it's an inFAMOUS game. :D
I've read a few that say the graphics are amazing, but it plays like a last gen game. I'm really not sure what that means, but if they mean it plays exactly like the first two, I'm going to be slightly disappointed.
Oh well, I'll get some fun out of it regardless. I was hoping it would score a lot higher, though...Sony still needs that high scoring blockbuster game on the PS4.

Consensus seems that gameplay is very similar to last gen though more difficult and includes new moves (of course), Delsin is much more likable than Cole, and the graphics are quite impressive.
Went to gamestop and the employee there told me after my pre-order they only had 2 left in stock. Going to try to stay up for the midnight release but we shall see.

From Polygon (http://www.polygon.com/2014/3/20/5527678/infamous-second-son-review-drain-you), here's a pretty good summary of most reviews...
I struggled with feeling let down that Second Son isn't a brilliant shift for action games. My small disappointments come mostly as a result of undeveloped potential. It had a chance to be a superhero game about more serious issues as well as a showcase for the power of the new generation of consoles. Instead, Second Son is more of the Infamous I already loved last generation, prettier, with more powers and better writing. But Second Son still kept me excited to discover each new power set and happy to shoot fireballs at fascist thugs long into the night. Maybe it's not so bad to just let go of responsibility and blow stuff up once in a while.
I dunno what people expect when they say
plays like a last gen game. It's a 3rd person open world game where you "shoot" bad guys. PS4/XB1 enhance the graphics capabilities for those type of games but it's not like they allow for fireballs to actually shoot at you from the screen.

New console generation should usher in new ideas. The fact this is basically the same thing as the other 2 games with prettier graphics is just disappointing. Titanfall was something with fresh ideas in it. Destiny is the same way.
They could have made the morality system a lot more complex and meaningful, but from what I've read from the reviews, it's pretty much the same.
It's nothing that's going to ruin the game, it's just disappointing.

Yeah b/c there has never been a 1st person mech shooter. :smh:

I'm truly not bothering with you, dude. You know exactly what differences I'm talking about (for one example, name one first person shooter that allows you to run on walls and string them together using double jump), but I guess you're just butt hurt your blessed Sony exclusive isn't scoring as well as you'd like, so you're going to lose all reason and lower yourself to cheap comments about a game on the other system you know absolutely nothing about.
Point being, it's a new console generation. We have much more powerful hardware. It's kind of a slap in the face to make a game that is extremely similar to the games in a previous generation, give it pretty graphics and a new character and call it a day. I know I'm not alone, because a very large number of reviewers mentioned the exact same thing. It's why Shadow Fall sucked ass. Did it look amazing? Yep. Did it have absolutely no redeeming qualities game play wise? Yep.
It's a new console generation. There is no better time than right now to release something different. I have absolutely no doubts that I'll have a lot of fun with Second Son, but that doesn't change the fact that according to most reviews, the game play is mostly unchanged from past games. To a lot of people, myself included, it's a little disappointing.

I've always felt hardware had little to do with fresh ideas. Madden fans seemed hell bent on believing next gen would fix everything and the game would take a big jump. Didn't happen.

I haven't played I2 (yet), but based on screens Delsin seems like an unlikable hipster (redundant?). I'm hoping the plot changes that.
The Day One patch comes in at 300 MB and includes six weeks of additional episodic content (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/infamous-second-son-day-one-patch-includes-free-six-weeks-of-additional-episodic-content/1100-6418443/):
Listed in the review notes for inFamous: Second Son are details on additional content players will be able to access along with the day-one patch for the game. The approximately 300MB patch also includes the standard bug fixes and minor gameplay tweaks.
The additional storyline included in the patch is described as "an innovative storyline in the narrative of the game world, but that also has content and gameplay outside the PS4 game itself." It mentions that sharp-eyed players may have noticed an easter egg in the game's TV commercial directing them to www.enjoyyourpower.com, a still-unfolding ARG created by developer Sucker Punch and 42 Entertainment that ties into Second Son. The description says, "At the end of the rabbit hole is six weeks of weekly episodic game content that weaves in and out of the game, giving you more gameplay and backstory on the world of Second Son."
In the game, you'll have access to the first mission in the Paper Trail storyline, but it's essentially free content that adds "approximately 5 hours of unique gameplay" through 19 additional story mission. The patch also includes Cole's Legacy Content Pack, which is a free upgrade for player's who pre-ordered the game. The four additional story missions in this content pack add approximately one hour of gameplay and "explore the events immediately following inFamous 2.
The day-one patch includes the following fine tuning adjustments and bug fixes:
- Difficulty Balance
Normal difficulty has been slightly increased to challenge the player’s mastery of their powers
Expert difficulty has been fine-tuned to ensure it is the best experience for skilled gamers
Karma progression extended to support longer playtime
- Boss Fights
The boss fights have been re-tuned for difficulty and fun
More dynamic boss behaviors and attacks
- Pedestrians and DUPs
Engine performance tweaks to allow for more life and activity in the city
Increased pedestrian and traffic density and variety
Increased pedestrian-related karmic opportunities
Post-story enemy activity and D.U.P. raids
- Technical Improvements
Graphics and performance improvements
Fixes for a small number of infrequent blocking bugs
PSN integration to support Paper Trail DLC
