Absolutely. This is the one next gen racing game that I'm looking at and could actually see myself playing for more than a few days without getting bored of it.

I'll say the same thing I said about them including Uncharted 3 without the full online - pure garbage. It's like they've realized they can use Plus to give customers a half-assed experience in hopes that they enjoy it and spend more money to unlock all the content. Reminds me of the biggest rip off in all of gaming - in app purchases.

With that said, the game itself looks great. Too many racers coming out during the same time. This, Forza 5, and The Crew are come out around the same time and all look amazing.

Look I don't have a problem with this. Its a brand new console and quite honestly giving us even a small portion of a launch title is a BIG deal IMHO. It's probably going to hurt Drive Club's sales too b/c allot of people will have + now and just play the "free" + version.

This isn't DLC. This is content from the full game that is simply taken away (or at least that's how I'm reading it). I have NO problem whatsoever with a publisher releasing a game, and then a few weeks or months later, they release content and charge for it. I've bought tons of DLC like that.

However, I'm not paying something additional that should be included with the game. Gears of War is probably the most infamous one that does this. Why the hell should I have to pay for additional weapon skins when they were available on launch day and obviously should have been put into the main game? Even worse is the horseshit they pull with Gears 3, having features built in to the game and ON THE DISC and then charging $10 to unlock it.

The Drive Club thing with Plus isn't quite as bad as that simply because you're not paying full retail price, but it's not too far from it.

It's still not free. If you don't pay that $50 a year, you don't get it. Plus, as it is now and as it will be in the future, is a rental service. You're not getting ANYTHING for free. I know the argument is now going to become "well you have to have it now for online," but if it was just for online, it certainly wouldn't be $50 a year. PSN on PS3 doesn't have the kind of features that demands that kind of price tag, and from what I've seen of the PS4 so far, neither does it. Plus is still going to be mainly a rental service.

I suppose you would be okay with Gamefly sending you The Last of Us and only giving you half the game, while charging you an additional fee on top of your subscription to unlock the rest of it, right?

The $50 pays for itself rather quickly. If I get DriveClub free, and have to pay an extra $20 or $30 to get everything else to make a full game. That's perfectly fine. It's just like me getting Assassins Creed III for Vita for $13 this week in the E3 sale. I got an extra discount from being a + member to only pay that amount. Saved $17 from buying it on Amazon. That's one instance in 52 weeks of deals you get on +.

But you are getting the full game minus a few tracks and cars. That's basically the equivalent of DLC. It would be different it was an adventure game, and you only get half the levels and have to pay for the other half to finish the game.

It's free to play online until you get a certain level, and then you don't level up anymore. I think you're also restricted on what maps you can play on. Besides, the free to play online is included with the Plus version. It's single player + free to play version of the multiplayer.

It's been a bad couple of days. And IMHO we went from a pretty solid launch lineup to a mediocre lineup.

IF I were a betting man I'd bet Knack is your free PS+ game. Doesn't appear to have much interest, its a PS exclusive so why not? I'd be thrilled as it saves me $60.

ALLOT of gamers are giving Knack a hard time. I don't get it:

1. It looks pretty impressive graphically;
2. Gameplay looks solid/fun

Now its not FPS or some open world game where you go around cutting people's heads off or slapping strippers around but its a fun platformer that can be played from kids all the way up. Just looks like a fun game to me.

"Driveclub will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision--and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations."

This game has gone from being a launch title I was excited for to wondering if we will ever see it.

Col Rodgers, game director on DriveClub at Evolution Studios, has departed the studio in order to form indie developer Big Red Switch Games, VideoGamer reports.

According to the publication, Rodgers officially left in February. His replacement has not been announced, and his departure is apparently unrelated to recent layoffs.

Big Red Switch Games is an indie studio working in Unity. The developer currently has "some great games in production."

Earlier today, Evolution Studios was hit with layoffs, along with Guerrilla Cambridge and SCE London Studio. According to Sony, the layoffs will not affect the development of Drive Club.

Last month, PlayStation software product development head Scott Rhode said that DriveClub had gone "back to the drawing board" in an effort to ensure a high quality release. The game was previously expected as a launch title for PlayStation 4, but was later delayed to 2014. Its current state remains unclear.

Upon release, DriveClub is expected to hit the Instant Game Collection. Playstation Plus users will have the option to upgrade to the full version for a price.

Yeah no way is that "upgrade" worth it. You could actually buy the disc based game for $60 then trade it back in and end up costing you less than $50. I believe a study said games would have to be priced at $40 new for it to make sense for consumers to switch to digital.

I won't upgrade for that price but depending on how good the game is I might have been tempted in the $20 - $30 range.

For me its the whole digital price thing. For a "regular" retail game the studies show that a consumer should pay roughly $40 for a digital copy b/c he/she is giving up the right to sell, trade the disc copy back.

So, with Drive Club I'd consider paying $40 for a full game but it was promised as a + version so I think I should pay something less than a full $40 for the full upgrade thus the $30.

Faulty logic. Just b/c all digital retail games are overpriced doesn't mean DriveClub's $50 pricetag is a good bargain for a consumer. Drive Club just happens to be less overpriced than other digital retail games.

In short there are only two logical options if you want to play this game: (1) buy the full retail DISC for $60; (2) just play the free + version and wait for a major price drop for the upgrade.

I remember this happening a few years back with another game, I can't remember if it was Madden or Madden and Fight Night but all these players went online when the games came out and BAM overloaded the servers and shut the servers down for a few hours if not days.

PSN has had stability problems for years. The fact that the PS4 is selling like hotcakes just made the issue worse. I don't think Sony ever expected this many users to be hitting their network at once. Unless they do something about it, it's only going to get worse over time.

By arcade I mean punishing mistakes hard going around the course, realistic handling vs high speed corners (Dukes of Hazard) type stuff. I really don't like power ups and weapons in racing games. I dislike Mario Kart. I really liked ModNation racers. That was arcade like but the focus was on beating the track and not shooting other drivers. I like banging in to other cars but not ink blots and crap like that in Mario.

I downloaded the UK demo of MotoGP and man that was hard and punishing since it was more Sim based imo.

Sony has restructured Evolution to focus on updating its PlayStation 4-exclusive racing game as a service, as well as the launch of the long-delayed PS Plus Edition.

I've downloaded the PS Plus edition. Haven't played it yet. In fact, still have a ton of crap to download. You download the game, then you download something like a 7 or 13 GB application data file then you download a 10 GB update file. Ridiculous. I still have 3-5 GB of the update file waiting to download because I don't feel like having my network speeds dragged down while trying to play MLB The Show and watch videos on my laptop at the same time by having that thing rolling in the background.

BTW, there's also a TGT group on DriveClub. LMK who wants an invite and I can send one over. IIRC, the XP earned cumulatively as a group unlocks new paint schemes and items so it's worth joining, even if we rarely play as a group.

Yeah I messed around with a bit and it looks like 90% of the game is locked to me. The game looks amazing and feels like a game somewhere between sim and arcade. Shame the launch of this game was a debacle.

I looked at the Multiplayer for a bit last night and it appears that we can get together as a group and pick events/races available to PS+ members. (They are clearly indicated as such.)

The bad news is that I couldn't get connected to any races and there weren't any error messages saying why. I would go from a lobby attempting to 'connect(ing) to other players' back to the race select without any indication on what happened. :dunno:

Meh, I'll probably pass. I honestly have not really touched DriveClub at all beyond the first couple days the PS+ version was released and can't see myself playing it much, if at all, in the future. Certainly not enough to justify even $20 on it.

There is a SHITLOAD of content though and TGT guys to try to best. I think it's more than worth it.

Oh I'm sure there lots of content, but racing games just having held my interest much lately. Even Forza 5, which I got Day One with my Xbox One along with Ryse and Dead Rising 3, I haven't played in over a year. Outside of maybe a "good" NASCAR game, which I'm still waiting on since the PS2 days, racing games just have sort of fallen out of my interests.
