That interface design is enough to make me vomit. I'm really hoping you can use custom backgrounds and that those custom backgrounds make it more pleasing on the eyes.

Is it known yet if PS4 is using the same type of cable to charge accessories?
I needed a new PS3 controller and took a chance with the 'New Owners Kit' that comes with a 9' charging cable and HDMI cable. Don't need the HDMI but I think I can give it to a friend.

Pretty sure that the PS4 controllers use the micro USB whereas the PS3 uses mini USB. Micro USB is identical to what most cell phones use these days.

Yeah just like you can change the background on PS3. I've been using the same maroon background for years because it looks better.

Didn't realize it was a "fake" but I had always just assumed your UI would have the themes, etc... that could replace the "default" option.

Oh well. Would have been nice.
That kit is the same price as a controller, so I basically got the cables for free. Probably would have gone with a different color, but I guess it's nice to have the second charging cable.

Dealing with the in game XMB on PS3 should be more than enough motivation for anyone to want a smooth, functional interface. As long as it's responsive and loads quickly, I'll be fine with it.

Yeah, because the 50+ posts I've made about how retarded Kinect and Move are would naturally make you believe I think Kinect/motion control is a good idea. :fp:
The only good thing I've ever said about either one of them is that it's smart for Microsoft to bundle it, otherwise it's going to end up exactly like Move and the PS4's camera is going to end up - dead on arrival.
As I've said numerous times, motion control is a gimmick, it's ruining gaming, and the sooner it's killed off, the better off gaming will be.

Yeah lots of people are really amped about MS selling their private info and/or giving it the Feds. Then again compared to its other decisions, 180s, 360s, 720s, etc... the decision to act as Big Brother I suppose could be interpreted as the "smartest" decision they have made and stuck with to date with the launch of XB1.

It is ruining gaming. Killzone 3, Resistance 3, and SOCOM 4 were absolutely horrific because they forced motion control implementation into the game, which made the aiming extremely easy (a ton of aim assist to assist with the motion control). Those are just 3 examples off the top of my head of established franchises that were ruined because of forcing in motion control.
I can understand the Wii thing for parties and fitness, sure, but keep that shit in those games. There's no need to implement motion control into established franchises that are geared towards the hardcore in the first place.

New Photos Show How to Replace the PS4 Hard Drive (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/18/new-photos-show-how-to-replace-the-ps4-hard-drive?utm_campaign=ign+main+twitter&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social)
At E3, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 4 would allow owners to remove and upgrade the built-in hard drive, and now, we know how. PC enthusiast website Computer Bild has posted detailed photos of the PS4's removable housing and HDD tray. According to the post, the hard drive is housed underneath the glossy exterior panel on top of the device and can be removed via torx screwdriver. Like the PS3, the system uses a 2.5" laptop hard drive, which should enable users to upgrade the system with a solid state drive, provided they're willing to go through the trouble and incur the expense.

Any of you "tech" guys know if the RPMs matter? I know for PS3 I just matched what was inside my system but I've seen people say it doesn't matter and to just go ahead and buy whatever hdd size you want as long as it is 2.5".

It's doesn't matter that significantly IMO, at least not for a PS3. For a server it matters and for PC gaming you might notice some difference, but I imagine for consoles the difference is minimal.

I'm kinda wondering what in the specs of the 1TB HDD I bought didn't work for the PS3.
I'm just going to wait a year, and then find a HDD where the reviews state they got this for PS4 and it works well.

Yeah considering your troubles I might just wait and open it up to make sure I get everything right. I had ZERO issues which stunned me but I opened it up and literally searched for the exact same brand and found the exact HDD in the PS3 only with different space sizes and chose the 1TB.
I also just had a thought that I could theoretically just take the 500 GB out of the PS4 pop it into the PS3 and switch my old PS3 1 TB HDD over to PS4. Of course I'd have to transfer all the files to the new bland HDD but I presume it wouldn't be all that difficult.

I don't necessarily believe the site previously cited is the end all be all for sales #s but it is a data point which is backed up by 2013 Amazon Video Game Sales To Date, etc....
I have no doubt MS is/has closed the gap (the question is how much) after all their 180s. My hunch is in the U.S. it will be roughly 50/50 and right now I'd give the slight early edge to PS4 b/c I believe there are more "hard core" gamers getting Sony and eventually MS will catch up when the "bros" finally get off their couch after seeing the Madden 25 and COD on XB1 commercials.

A. That site has been proven to just pull numbers out of their ass numerous times. Whether or not they've changed and actually use real data now...I don't know, but their numbers should not be taken as facts.
B. I have no doubt Sony is going to outsell Microsoft this year, and probably next year, and I'll go on record as saying that as long as there's a $100 difference, they'll continue to outsell Microsoft. You cite Madden and Call of Duty as being reasons people buy an Xbox One, and while I'm sure having content first for Call of Duty affects some people, I doubt it's enough to get people to fork over an extra $100 when they can get the same content on the cheaper system.
Besides, all these recent rumors about PS4 being able to consistently have games running at 1080p while most Xbox One games are going to run at 720p or 900p are probably going to play a part, too.

I don't disagree that the "exclusive" DLC is only a "small" factor. However, a believe a large % of the "bros" probably don't even realize COD/Madden is available on another platform b/c EVERY commercial they see for Madden/COD will END with the MS/XB1 swipe/logo/sound.

Better in a few areas, yes. This gen I still have to give the nod to the 360 since they tend to be less janky when it comes to 3rd party games and they have a game download/install/patch system that was not based on some beta version of DOS 1.0.

Yes, and in game interface. Sony's is a cluster fuck.
FYI, Gamestop stores that have the Dualshock 4 in stock are selling them now. There's no street date.

We wanted to shed some light on system software update version 1.50 for PS4, which will launch simultaneously with the system’s official North American launch on November 15th, 2013. By updating to system software version 1.50, you’ll be able to experience a variety of new features in addition to the basic functions of PS4.
The system software update 1.50 is approximately 300 MB, and will include the following features:
Remote Play
Users will be able to access PS4 titles displayed on their living room TVs and play them on a PS Vita system over Wi-Fi networks by using PS4 Link (Depending on network environment or titles, remote play performance may vary outside of the home). We anticipate that most PS4 titles will be playable on the PS Vita system through Remote Play. The latest PS Vita system software version, to be released soon, will be required to use PS4 Link.
Second Screen
Users can use the PS4 Link application for the PS Vita system, and PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, to use these devices as second screens in supported titles. PlayStation App has the ability to enable users to interact with games with their mobiles devices. For example on The Playroom, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.
Record, take screenshots, and upload gameplay effortlessly
The PS4 system provides dedicated, “always on” video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the Share button on DualShock 4, take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game—the video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 system’s launch in North America, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, though users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Facebook and Twitter.
Broadcast and spectate gameplay
The PS4 system also enhances social spectating by enabling users to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to game fans around the globe, using Ustream and Twitch live internet streaming services (users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Ustream and Twitch). There are two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users. Second, users can spectate friends’ PS4 gameplay from PCs, and applications such as Ustream, Twitch, and browsers, which are installed on their mobile devices. These applications can be easily started up via PlayStation App, and users can also use these applications to post comments to gameplay broadcasts. Furthermore, users with PlayStation Camera can stream camera images and microphone sounds along with their live gameplay broadcast.
Play as you download
This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. The time it takes to begin playing will vary depending on game data size and network environments, and not all titles will support this feature When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.
Multi log-in
A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multiplayer game together on a single PS4 system.
Party (Voice chat)
By using the Mono Headset bundled with the PS4 system, users will be able to chat with up to eight friends enjoying different applications or games. Furthermore, users can use Party to chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems.
Face recognition and voice commands
Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DualShock 4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DualShock 4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features; please refer to PS4’s online manual for recognizable voice commands.
Background music player
Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here.
Online Multiplayer
PlayStation Plus members will be able to play PS4 titles online with other players via the network. PS Plus makes it easy for members to join available online multiplayer matches in a variety of ways, including the ability to easily join a game from a live stream broadcast or Party voice chats.
Blu-ray Disc and DVD player
Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents. When using for the first time, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature.
Some features will not be available at launch, such as “suspend/resume mode” which is a feature that keeps the PS4 system in a low power state and promptly takes users back to their game. We will provide additional information about system software update version 1.50 and features available at the PS4 system’s North America launch, and features that will be available after launch, in the near future.
Patch on release day detailed.
That's allot of stuff in patch 1 but just about all of it was already announced at this point so nothing really earth shattering there.

Some quick impressions just from holding it (keep in mind I loved the 360 controller and thought the PS3 controller was one of the worst ones I've ever used):
*Hand grip area is a little thinner, but it actually feels better.
*Grip area is longer so that I can now rest my pinkie on the edge of the grip rather than it hanging off like it did on PS3.
*Sticks are slightly more sturdy and require a little more force to move them, which is good IMO, because the PS3 sticks were way too loose. They feel good.
*Sticks are slightly further apart so you'll be running your thumbs together a lot less often. You CAN still hit them, but I was doing it intentionally and I think just playing naturally you probably will never have them touch, so THANK GOD.
*D-Pad is awesome as usual, but that was expected as the PS3 and Vita ones are both good as well.
*Face buttons feel a little better, but I never really had a problem with them before. I think they're slightly closer together than they were on PS3, but it's not by much.
*L1 and R1 feel as expected.
*Triggers have a nice curve to them, and my fingers are not slipping off at all, so that's a huge plus there. They are a little small for my taste, but they're still a massive improvement over the DS3
Overall, love it. Massive, massive improvement over the shit that was the DS3.

Didn't see this, sorry.
Triggers feel great. The problem of your fingers slipping off are a thing of the past. They're a little small for my taste, but that's just a personal thing and I doubt many people will have a problem with it.
Size wise, it doesn't feel bigger to me at all. It feels longer because the grip extends further down, but I like that because now I can rest all of my fingers on the grip rather than having my pinkie hanging off. If you liked the DS3, you'll love the DS4.

Sounds good. I've always strongly preferred Sony's controller over MS' controller. I think the reason is MS' just feels too big/clunky in my hands (+ I just prefer the sticks parallel over MS' setup). How much bigger/heavier is DS4 over DS3.

Weighs about the same (I personally can't tell the difference, DS4 might weigh a LITTLE more) but the DS4 feels much more solid than the DS3 did. I always thought I was going to break the DS3 because it felt so cheap, but the DS4 is solid and feels really, really nice.

On most games, yes...you just have to have it plugged in with a micro USB cable. It doesn't work at all with Grand Theft Auto 5 for some reason, but it seems to work with most games (tried Madden and NCAA and everything works just fine).
The middle PS button doesn't work at all, so you'll still have to use your PS3 controller to access the in game XMB and stuff like that.
It also works on PC from what I've read.
EDIT: FYI, for anyone thinking about buying one, it needs to be plugged in via micro USB and one is NOT included.

I feel sorry for those who preorder at Walmart and Best Buy. Both of those stores are NOTORIOUS for not holding reservations. GS and Amazon are easily the best places.
Here is how digital sharing (& more) works on PS4 (http://us.playstation.com/ps4/features/ps4-faq/).
Games you purchase can be downloaded and played on any PS4™ system if you sign in to PSN℠. There is no limit on the number of systems you can use. * Only you can start games that you download.
Am I understanding this correctly: You can have your account on as many consoles as you want, but you can only play them when signed into your account? Is that what "Only you can start games that you download" is trying to convey?

That rumor stems from the fact that people who ordered Launch Bundles on Amazon are having their links redirect to the DS4 Launch Bundle. I know people are asking customer service reps and they're confirming, but they're just doing the same thing that the people are doing. The chances that it includes 2 controllers is slim to none, IMO.
The Launch Bundle was $399. The bundle that it's currently redirecting to was $459.99. There's about a 99% chance it's just a simple mistake with how the links are redirecting. However, I'm pretty sure if you complain enough when they come out, you could probably get that second controller.

Yeah, but when you click on your orders, it directs to the 2 controller bundle, right? They have access to the exact same thing, so when they click on that order, it's redirecting incorrectly for them, too, which is why all the reports of the reps saying it does includes 2 bundles are happening. If you save the chat log, you might be able to get one of them to ship you a free one when it inevitably only comes with one, but again, that depends upon who you talk to.

Not even a comparison, IMO. One of the shittiest controllers I've ever used vs. one of the best. DS4 is better in literally every single aspect.
So.... I have 4 games out at a time GameFly subscription. What 4 PS4 titles should I get at launch?
Right now I am considering (in no particular order): AC IV; Madden; FIFA; NBA 2K; Live; and Knack.
AC IV and Knack I am considering just buying outright on launch. 2K I'm also considering but need to see a little more. The rest haven't shown me anything to date to justify a purchase out of the shoot.
I also have the FPS in my Q but considering my motion sickness from playing them I'm not sure that's a good idea.

I'm personally getting Madden 25, Assassin's Creed 4, and then Killzone Shadow fall. I might get a NBA game, I don't know yet. I already paid the $10 for my PS4 Battlefield 4, so I'll have that at launch as well. Maybe Call of Duty Ghosts? I don't know on that one yet, either.
If I were you, I'd roll with Knack as a definite rental (I think you'd be highly disappointed if you spent $60 on it). If you need another 3, how about Assassin's Creed 4, NBA, and then Madden to trophy whore?
Don't forget that you're going to be bombarded with games at launch because of all the free ones you get with Plus.

That's true I forgot about all the F2P games and + games 1st month out. Maybe its just me but Knack just looks fun and I feel like supporting a decent title that isn't cutting people's heads off, a FPS or a game that involves slapping strippers around. It just strikes me as an "old school" video game. You know before every game was M for mature.
I'll definite whore Madden out as I already have most of the MUT trophies with all of my carry over players. Then someone will create a 99 OVR squad and I can sim 4-5 years of franchise and get all those and the :plat: is just a MUT championship away.

Well I never started AC3 and so Im just going to pick up with AC4. TLOU is amazing best video game story I have ever played. Batman has gotten pretty mixed reviews. My gamefly for it should arrive today but from what I have read its basically the exact same game as the last version with a different story behind it but the story isn't that compelling.
At this point I'm just ready to move on to a new console to see what it brings.

With DLNA, you can have your movies, music, etc. on your PC and then another device (PS3, etc.) can access it and stream it across your network. My HDD is full of music, videos, etc. that I won't be able to play on my PS4.
Thanks G

Lame... though I'm sure it will be added down the line.
Will PS4 support media servers or DLNA support in order to stream videos or movies from a home PC?
The PS4 system does not support client functionality for media servers.
Will I be able to play MP3s on PS4?No.
That's a bunch of horseshit. I guess this is them trying to force people to spend $50 a year on their Music Unlimited Service. Unbelievable.

Yeah that's my guess. I NEVER listen to music on PSN ever and if I wanted to my desktop is right beside me so its no biggie to me. I suspect when/if people complain enough Sony might bend on that one but right now they want people to sign up for whatever the heck they call their service.
Now anyone know a good site to get a 1TB (or larger) HDD for my PS4?

Same for me, but that's also due to Sony's ineptness with allowing in game music to be played while you're playing a game. The fact that they now allow you to do that on any game on PS4 but only with their $50 a year service is just insulting.

Yeah checked out newegg they are priced about the same as Amazon. They are the same specs as the PS3 so I could always just swap the 500 GB for the 1TB drive I have in my PS3 but I'll need to check and see how much crap I have on my PS3 (I think I'm already over 500GB with all the + games)

Read the actual article:
This isn't to say other developers won't take advantage them, however, although Sony isn't expecting the Online Pass to maintain its popularity on next-gen consoles. "When it comes to third-party titles, PlayStation won’t dictate the strategy of publishers concerning Online Pass programs. However, most third parties have phased out the use of Online Pass systems, so they’re unlikely to appear on PS4."
That's basically the EA clause....

It prob depends on what Naughty Dog thinks. I don't think we will see a Naughty Dog Next-Gen game before mid-2014 at the earliest so that would have been a year + between games and it sold so... well and was critically well received. However, its been a few years since UC so maybe its time for a refresher.

Those 5 reasons are boring to me. I only care about a few maybe one exclusive to Sony over MS and that's MLB the show. Other then that not much of a game selection. And the controller is meh Looks and feels great I'm sure but I'll be fine down the road of getting the ps4.

The 5 Best Reasons For Buying The PS4 Instead Of An Xbox One
http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2013/11/04/the-5-best-reasons-for-buying-the-ps4-instead-of-an-xbox-one/?partner=yahootix
In all honesty, not that great of an article or reasons. It's pretty much all subjective and will depend on each person. I'll grant PS4 the power argument and the fact it's $100 less.
For me personally (bolded to make it clear that this is just my opinion on the other three points), the controller argument, Xbox One wins, I just plain like their controller and the feel and hold of it on 360 and I'll like the Xbox One controller. The exclusives, I find Xbox One has the better exclusives that I personally actually want to play. The only exclusive currently that would make me run out and buy a PS4 tomorrow is MLB The Show. And for indie games, that, either way, I couldn't care less. I've never bought an indie title on 360 and never really have any interest in Indie titles, so how great one system is over the other, makes absolutely no difference to me.
As for the whole 720 vs 1080 stuff, it may be somewhat noticeable in pictures and gifs and whatnot, but when I'm playing a game, really, I'm not going to care that much or even take notice of any differences. So that whole argument doesn't matter to me.
Only reason for me to buy a PS4 right now, the fact it's $100 cheaper and MLB The Show. Otherwise, Xbox One has the exclusives that I want, it's where all my friends from high school, college and beyond play their games, and I've already got a gaming history set up on the Xbox systems, I've got Xbox Live through March (it'll be extended to March 2015 when I get a 12 month Live Gold card as my yearly Christmas present from my sister), I'm already set to make the leap to Xbox One come November 22nd. PS4, I'd have to start over, setting up a new account from scratch, building a friend's list from scratch, paying for PS+ (or whatever they're going to be calling it on PS4), etc.
I'm looking at getting a PS4 eventually, but it probably won't be until at least 2015. Right now Xbox One will be my launch day platform for this coming generation of systems. The PS4, will be eventually bought, but bumped down the line for now.

I will say, that's good to hear. I held a PS3 controller in the past, never really like it or cared for it. I still love the way the 360 controller fits perfectly in my hands (I've got big hands so it's extremely comfortable to hold), and the Xbox One controller doesn't appear to have changed all that much, so it should still feel and hold well. And it sounds like when I finally buy a PS4 down the line, based on your remarks, the DS4 thankfully should be comfortable as well.

I hated the DS3 and loved the 360 controller for the exact same reason as you. I mentioned it somewhere here in this thread, but I have a DS4 and it's the most comfortable controller I've ever used. It's easily my favorite. It's like a slimmed down version of the 360 controller, but really comfortable to hold. Granted, I haven't held a One controller yet.
The One controller is slightly smaller, but I don't think it's anything that's going to make a big difference. Why fix something that isn't broken?

Excellent, then I should be good when I eventually pick up a PS4 sometime down the road. And agreed. The 360 controller is perfect, no need to reinvent the wheel when it's already so damn good. :)

Dunno. My only problems come with FPS (or any First Person perspective). I think it might have something to do with my eyes focusing "too hard" on only portions of the screen or something. I haven't tried a FPS in quite awhile though so I might rent Battlefield/COD/Killzone on PS4 if/when they are available to see if it is still an issue. I suspect it will be though.

CLW is pretty much the only one who cares so much that they live and die by this make-believe console war. Sort of surprising, as red-blooded an American and Republican he is, cheering for and rooting for the success of a foreign company and the failure of an American company. :eyeroll: :P

Bill Gates, big donor of the left? Looking up this stuff is pretty easy. (http://www.campaignmoney.com/biography/bill_gates.asp) Pretty down the middle. Similar to Steve Balmer, current CEO. (http://www.campaignmoney.com/finance.asp?type=in&cycle=12&criteria=ballmer&fname=steve)
Now let's look at the current Sony USA Entertainment Chairman and CEO, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Michael Lynton (http://www.campaignmoney.com/political/contributions/michael-lynton.asp?cycle=12). 100% contributions to the Bid "D."

If I had a nickel each time you went with that defense. Your deflector shield is broken, nice try but sometimes you just have to eat the crow. Here is a thought, since your sarcasm is harder to detect than Obama's transparency... Go with the ;) each time you are being sarcastic. Otherwise, man up and admit you just got smoked. I know the truth is not generally found in the lawyers briefcase but surprise us.

Watch Dogs, full Drive Club, and now Pinball Arcade. Ok Sony, just let me know when you're ready to take my money.

On a related note, Sony has come out and said that the browser will be much more robust on the PS4. I'm hopeful that it will be HTML5 compatible and thus be able to stream ESPN3, HBO Go, etc. natively through the browser since Microsoft seems to have some sort of exclusivity with those apps.

Polygon: PSN friend limit increased to 2,000 ahead of PS4 launch (http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/8/5081128/psn-friend-limit-increased-to-2000-ahead-of-ps4-launch)
Sony increased the PlayStation Network's friends list limit to 2,000 this week, U.K. community manager Chris "Envisager" Owen revealed in a post in the official EU PlayStation forums.
Although PlayStation 4 will support up to 2,000 friends when it launches Nov. 15, PlayStation 3 will only be able to support 100 friends visible in its XMB interface. If you amass a friends list that tops 100, Sony's network servers will automatically filter your list on PS3. You'll also be able to set a PS3-specific friends list for the console.
"Support for the ability to display all of your friends in most applications and games is planned, however, some titles will be limited to the current 100 Friends limit," U.K. community manager Owen wrote in the forums.
Also, according to a recent tweet from Owen, PlayStation Vita's recently released 3.00 firmware update brought support for up to 2,000 friends to the handheld.
