Interesting. I don't and probably won't have any intentions to buy it day one, but depending on the reviews post-release, I may have to look at picking UFC up sometime down the line.

Yesssss. I liked what I saw.

Umm, no date on UFC?

Sounds like the license was just agreed upon not too long ago, but the retooling of the EA MMA engine was probably been in the works for a little while now.

I definitely let out a holy shit this morning when I heard the UFC reached a deal with EA. THQ's new deal they signed was to run til 2017 or so, and they must have backed out of it. The guy from THQ talking today on Spike did say they wanted to downsize.

EA SPORTS VP Andrew Wilson drops a few hints on what the company has in store for their UFC title:

“We took on the UFC this year, we signed that deal, Dana and I put that deal together. We’re very excited about that deal but the reality is, you know, right now I’m touring up not just one development team, I’m touring up a whole series of teams. The team that’s gonna build the core engine. The team that’s gonna build features for console, features for PC, features for mobile phone. The team that’s gonna run a live service that connects UFC fans to the broadcasts and the Pay-per-view events; connect you with what’s going on in the fight world. It’s a very big challenge for us, taking on new stuff.

In a report coming out of MMAPayout.com the UFC’s parent company, ZUFFA LLC and EA Sports are both being sued by the former producer of the UFC Game franchisse, THQ.

Check out their report:

According to court documents filed in the U.S. District Court in Delaware , Bankrupt video game maker THQ is suing Zuffa and Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) stating that EA had informed Zuffa of THQ’s shaky finances as EA and Zuffa worked together to so that EA could acquire the license to UFC video games. The Complaint was filed last Friday.

The issue goes back to 2006 when EA expressed interest in acquiring the UFC video game franchise from Zuffa. However, court documents stated that, “EA made what Zuffa considered to be an insultingly low offer for the UFC video game rights and was rejected.”

In 2009, THQ developed “UFC 2009 Undisputed” and it was a success selling over 3.5 million units. Despite the success two years prior, THQ’s finances declined in 2011 and the company determined that it would be unable to support its projects including the next games in the UFC franchise.

In 2011, THQ and EA discussed a potential sale of THQ as a whole to EA. According to court documents, “THQ provided EA internal financial information including detailed sales and revenue figures for the UFC Franchise, and projected marketing expenditures on the next UFC Franchise game.” Despite initial interests, EA broke off negotiations with THQ in December 2013 citing disinterest.

Two weeks later, Zuffa criticized THQ about its expenditures and threatened to terminate its relationship with THQ based on its insolvency. There had been no prior evidence of dissatisfaction with THQ.

THQ entered into a $10 million settlement with Zuffa in exchange for the termination of its license and all intellectual property rights to the UFC game brand in 2012. However,
THQ now claims that this was a fraudulent transfer as it believes that EA had contacted Zuffa and conveyed the internal financial information it was provided by THQ during the potential sale of THQ. THQ claims that it was “hamstrung” in negotiations with Zuffa due to its knowledge of THQ’s finances and the actual value of the UFC video game franchise was $20 million.

Jon Jones will be on the cover of EA SPORTS UFC. Second cover athlete will be decided by .... fan vote ... that will take nearly a month to finish (http://www.easports.com/ufc/news-updates-gameplay/article/ea-sports-ufc-cover-vote)!

Seriously though, I don't like how the two women in the bracket face each other in the first round. I doubt I bother voting, but I would like to see one of them as the winner.

Pastapadre: EA Sports UFC Reviews Trending Behind Past THQ and EA MMA Efforts (http://www.pastapadre.com/2014/06/17/ea-sports-ufc-reviews-trending-behind-past-thq-and-ea-mma-efforts)

EA Sports UFC is out today and the reviews coming in early peg it as the weakest of the major games representing the sport in recent years. Lack of content and an arcade rather than sim approach are being considered - though fun factor regardless of that has been widely identified and online play appears to offer much more enjoyment than taking on the CPU.

Metacritic Scores
EA Sports UFC (2014) 69/77
UFC Undisputed 3 (2012) 85/86
EA Sports MMA (2010) 79/77
UFC Undisputed 2010 85/84
UFC Undisputed 2009 83/84

Though only a small percentage of the total reviews that will come in over the course of the coming weeks have been posted, it’s safe to expect the overall score to float in the same general vicinity of the mid-70s.

You lose stamina if you keep spamming. The online was ok. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get online the past week because of some "session failed to load" error that I have no clue how to fix.

Losing stamina really doesn't deter you from anything online though. You'll see it almost all the time playing someone.

Game is nice just don't have a clue what I'm doing half the time lol.

Plus my guy I created in my career is slow as hell right now.

Haven't played online yet but I will eventually once I learn the game more. Stamina seems to really effect things from what I've seen at least against cpu. Now against another person may not do much not sure. Know my controller is getting a beating while I play haha

Man defending take downs is tough. When you guess right you can block them but never know when they are coming at any moment. And with a guy with high ground/submission they go for them a lot naturally of course.

My guy did suck at both too though lol.

Standing up though he's knocking people out. Will post about career tomorrow

You need to have a decent takedown defense, also kinda disappointing there is no penalty for spaming takedowns. A sprawl system would've been nice, but I've enjoyed it thus far.

When I happen to be holding R2 and down I block them successfully, just when not knowing.

I got slammed like 8 times one round against Mir I believe. It was annoying. Then some little dude (210 pounds)...I'm 265 lol, kept doing power takedowns and slamming me all night...until I dropped his ass with a kick to the mouth.

Still not ready to go online yet but having fun in the career mode. It's getting much harder the closer I get to the top. Having to fight off submission attempts every minute it seems. My guy doesn't like to go to the ground, I want to stand up all night.

Yeah I went online and wasn't sure how to stop the Muay Thai clinch and got Ko'ed a crap load of times. Now though I'm pretty good and just got into the black belt tier.. Online has a bunch of spammers but every sports game has some niche.

I "think" you use the right stick towards the opponent, then you twirl the right stick to advance your position and use L2 as a modifier with your kick button for those knees to the head.

Free game update adds fighters and more (http://www.easports.com/ufc/news-updates-gameplay/article/ea-sports-ufc-patch-notes-july):

The first free content update for EA SPORTS UFC is now available for download worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In addition to providing improvements relating to gameplay, in-game animations and the online experience, this free content update also adds new fighters to the EA SPORTS UFC Roster.

New fighters now available for play include:

TJ Dillashaw – Bantamweight Champion
Takeya Mizugaki – Bantamweight Division
Tyron Woodley – Welterweight Division

Watch the video below to see each of these new fighters, as well as new gameplay additions in action.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPd_gw97StI

Key Gameplay Updates:

Touch Gloves: Users will now have the ability to manually make their fighter touch gloves (or choose not to touch gloves) before beginning to fight by pressing L2 on PS4 or LT on Xbox One. This can be done at the start of every round, or anytime the ref stands the fighters up.
Finish the Fight: During a knockout, the attacking fighter can jump on their downed opponent and “finish the fight” by delivering extra strikes as the knockout occurs.
Sprawls: The defending fighter now sprawls when successfully defending against a power takedown.
Clinch Break from the Cage: Fighters now have the ability to break out of a clinch when pressed against the fence by pressing the L3 button.
Power Takedowns and Sweeps: Power takedowns and side control sweeps have been removed from fighters who would not normally have them.
Stamina: Stamina no longer regenerates if the user holds block. The user will also take a larger stamina penalty if hit while weak blocking.
Sweep Defense: The dominant fighter in the Full Guard position now has a larger window to reverse the Full Guard sweep to Mount.
