Wow, they kinda messed the song up... Cool to see them do that though I think it's more a tribute to Johnny Cash than it is NIN.

Either way, it was a good song. And I do love practically any cover that's acoustic.

Yup. The Link is their first album. Next, From Mars To Sirius as that's their best album tied with The Link (in my opinion, of course). Then you have their newest album The Way of All Flesh and lastly Terra Incognita (which is still VERY good, but the others are just better).

kind of sounds like a lite Billy Bragg without the politics....which is fine, but its just kind of too lite

the one i'm really worried about is MorsD...he's put up like 3 or 4 bands and they all sound like their the same one and just changed their name to fool people for extra cash :D

of course everyone thinks the stuff they listened to in their 20s and high school was the best stuff ever and thats what you identify with when you get older.
But I consider myself a bit of a modern/trendy/sub culture, music historian and the 80s was a renaissance period full of different bands and sub cultures and they were all good and unique and interesting( and some of it was stupid, but the 80s were like the 1920s and everyone was happy and the record companies were throwing out money just seeing what was out there). Its so bland now

I'm liking quite a few of the ones you guys posted, purchased Pelican's City of Echoes album as well as Ganon's As Above, So Below. I really like that kind of sound, though hate the guttural screaming that usually comes with it. That combined with the fact that a lot of those songs are perfect instrumentals for what I do with my NCAA highlight videos; expect to see me use some of them in the future.

Awesome man! Glad I could move their music to someone else.

Another band you should check out, if you haven't heard of them, is Explosions In The Sky. They did the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights (the whole soundtrack for the movie and a song or two for the TV show) and they are PHENOMENAL instrumental music, with the occasional spoken word.

This is one of my personal favorites, the crescendos in this song are epic.

The album that song is off of (The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place) is, by far, their best album (though I haven't listened to their newest album that just came out this year yet). Though, their soundtrack from the Friday Night Lights movie is pretty damn good too, though probably not very good for football video creation.

I'm not a fan of the 'cookie monster' vocals either. For some reason it doesn't bother me with certain bands though (Gojira, Cult Of Luna, Isis, and Ganon)

Post rock/metal is probably my favorite genre...or anything instrumental. Bands like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky (new album is great BTW), If These Trees Could Talk, Mono, Saxon Shore. There are also a lot of mellow bands I dig that are instrumental as well. Tristeza, the Six Parts Seven, Lanterna, and The Album Leaf...to name a few.

Ok, my latest purchase is Of Frost and War which is a 2008 release by Hail of Bullets. I'm not quite sure why it took me so long to grab this CD. I saw these guys at the Maryland Deathfest in 2009 and spent quite a bit of time drinking beer with, and talking to, singer Martin van Drunen (formerly of Pestilence). His other band, Asphyx, also performed over the 3 days and both Asphyx and Hail of Bullets were really good. The album, Of Frost and War, is entirely about the Eastern Front of the European Theater in WWII which I can never get too much of. That makes it even more odd that it took me so long to get around to picking it up.

Anyway, even though 98% of you will hate it, here is Red Wolves of Stalin.

So found this on Wiki looking to see who the dude was right after Dave and this is kind of a weird coincidence

From DP Wiki - Mike Luce replied that "only 3–4 songs were done, including one called "Heroes," which is a tribute to dead rock musicians such as Layne Staley. I don't know if we will ever release them."

From Soil Wiki - well as the "throaty delivery" of Ryan McCombs for dropping its blatant Layne Staley inspiration.

I gotta say, I fuckin' hated their music, but they did a cover of a Metallica song (I think it was Master of Puppets, but I can't remember right off hand) at Ozzfest when they were on the tour the first time (like 2002 or something I think it was) and it was VERY well done. Well, we're not all old curmudgeonly fuckers. ;)

But, yes, Nirvana is old. The Nirvana song that I just posted (School) is from the Bleach album that came out in 1989. I was 5 years old at the time and I'm 27 now. 22 years old is pretty damn old for music. It's not oldies or anything like that, but it's definitely old.

but this is my point Mors...youre basing time, taste, and style of music on your existence. 20 years is a drop in the bucket of time and Nirvanas stuff isnt old, you were just a new human at the time.

Of course time is relative. Time isn't even a quantitative thing. Time is perceived and without someone to perceive it, time wouldn't exist. I can certainly get existential if you'd like, but, still, to all humans that perceive time, most, if not all, would agree that something that is 20+ years old is old when compared to something that's just coming out.

morsdraconis
07-19-2011, 05:49 PM
What can you use to prove that time exists? There's no quantitative way to PROVE that time exists. Aging isn't proof that time exists because you don't notice that aging happens unless you actively watch it happening, thus forcing time to exist by way of you noticing that time is happening.

Simply put, without something noticing that time is happening, time wouldn't happen to that object.

Nah, they're a little too much like Slayer, who I can't stand. It's really I don't like thrash music that much. Too worried about playing fast and not enough about it sounding like a cohesive sound with at least some type of melody and timing to it.

:fp: All of it. :fp:

I bet you a million they dont even like what they are doing. they just did it this way because they know or hope to know that there is a market for it with the dumbed down young fan base. I bet they listened to alot of recent stuff that is considered popular and said " we can do that same stupid junk"

Then I realize that it is 200% humidity, so I sit down and watch Texas Ranger baseball....:smh:

New 311 song is pretty good....haven't bought a 311 album in a while, but it was only $5.99 (just came out on the 19th) on Amazon MP3 (http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Pulse/dp/B005BXTP9S/ref=as_li_tf_sw?&camp=212361&linkCode=wsw&tag=thegamtai-20&creative=380789), giving it a try since I like this song.

I'm VERY dismayed to see that the last two singles that they've produced (one with Corey Taylor from Slipknot and one with Gavin Rossdale) are songs that I actively hate when I happen to be listening to the radio and they come on. I understand they gotta go more mainstream to make some money, but, damn it, not like THAT!

:smh:

Another band that I loved before mainstream took away their creative talents...
