The whole enterprise now has little to do with uniform design and is more akin to toy design, with the fairly obvious goal of allowing teen-age athletes (and, by proxy, the portion of their fan base that uses “sick” as a compliment) to indulge in some sort of juvenile comic book superhero fantasy. I don’t even roll my eyes at this stuff anymore — I just put it in the Ticker and move on.

But I’m going to make an exception today for UCLA.

UCLA should always be one the best-looking teams in college football. They have an unbeatable color combo, a unique number font, and a shoulder stripe pattern so iconic that it’s named for the school. How could you screw that up?

The Home and Away look fine. Grey on the other hand, getting way overused. Every time I see it, I think of a Dr Pepper Ten can.

Where I agree with grey being overused, but the PMS 426 “Smokey gray" is an official school color for University of Tennessee for a long time. So, I'm okay with the smokey gray, but not so sure about grey helmet. I have to wait and see it on the field. I'm just glad that they didn't do a retro 1914 gray uniform as that wouldn't look good.

I have a feeling that in a few years, that Tennessee will have another black uniform from Nike, but I hope that it's like the ones that they had a few years ago and nothing retro like the black uniforms that Tennessee had in 1903.

Love my Sun Devils and the unis are pretty decent but I still favour the yellow/gold helmet with the maroon facemask. I have finally accepted that Sparkey has moved on but ASU drove me nuts last year with just as many uni options as Oregon.

Each of these is creative in its own right. Not bad on their own. Someone gets to say "my work is out there,I made that" and 5hats fine. But it makes it difficult ultimate to identify with a team or its image. Uniform structure didn't change from the 30s till now ..by that I mean the helmet ,pants and shirt have been the same on each team in color and having those 3 pieces. Things will change but stop doing it every other weekend

Well, while he did become a household name his one season at Wisconsin, having been a member of the NC State team for four years, I see no problem with them listing him on a uniform as a NC State legend.

While he had pretty much his best season the one year at Wisconsin, he still put up good numbers at NC State and led them to some good records.

I went to school for a year at West Texas A&M, when it was called West Texas State. Was recruited to play there but my days practicing in 100 degree heat were behind me. They went 1-10 that year and the team was disbanded for several years after that.

The $280 million deal with Under Armour (UA) will last for 15 years, industry sources told CNNMoney on Tuesday. The news was first reported by ESPN.

UCLA has been outfitted by Adidas for years. Its current contract began in July 2011 and expires in June 2017. The two sides were in talks to renew that deal but were unable to reach a new agreement by the deadline.

Only a handful of collegiate apparel deals come even close to UCLA's new partnership with Under Armour.

Nike (NKE) holds the three largest -- a 15-year deal with Ohio State worth $252 million, a 15-year deal with the University of Texas worth $250 million and an 11-year deal worth about $169 million with the University of Michigan.

Classic uniform stays classic. GTFO with those shoes though.

Helmets in rival colors. Some look cool but most look weird. Some picks for rivals were headscratchers.
