Games that kinda matter this week in the race to the BCS

Brigham Young at No. 24 Boise State Left upright says NOPE.

Missouri at No. 7 South Carolina
Oregon State at No. 19 UCLA
Colorado at Washington State (Mike Leach has to be licking his chops)
No. 2 LSU at Auburn
No. 18 Michigan at No. 11 Notre Dame (There was once a time when this game mattered every year, glad to see it back to Kardashian status - the fat Kardashian mind you but it is better than being Bruce Jenner)
No. 15 Kansas State at No. 6 Oklahoma
No. 10 Clemson at No. 4 Florida State (college gameday location for week 4)
No. 22 Arizona at No. 3 Oregon

This is a College Football thread. Now if this was perhaps a thread for college baseball... I guess Arizona and Arizona St fans would be going at as to who the best in the state was. :P

That is just the Sooner fan in me pissed off that you took us out this year in the Super Regional. Fun fact is that OU also has two CWS titles.

P.S. Clemson is the best football team in South Carolina.

Went through and sorted out my list of games. VMI-Navy at 3:30 and Fresno State-Tulsa at 8pm are the only main games I am looking forward to and will be watching throughout (I'll also probably focus a good bit on Clemson-Florida State), everything else, I'm gonna probably be doing my usual of flipping back and forth between games at commercial breaks to see what's going on. The noon games I'll probably end up sleeping through the noon games (as I'll have just gotten off work at 9am after having been awake since 5pm Friday night), but if for some reason I'm still awake, I'll probably focus on the two Ivy League games on CBSSN and NBCSN. Don't get the chance to watch Ivy League a whole bunch during the season, so those would be the games I'd focus on during the noon games.

Based on the new rule, yes. What I do not care for is the unequal enforcement of the rule. In addition, back when I played that was called good D :dunno: maybe we will see flag or touch in the next ten years.

If he would have hit him lower, it shouldn't have been called. I still think it's bullshit. That's a good defensive play, plain and simple. It's ridiculous how neutered football is now. Yes, I know it's all about safety, but, for god's sake, you're playing a game where the objective is to hit the other player as hard as you can to dislodge the ball/prevent them from completing the catch. What more can you expect?

The NCAA and the NFL just needs to stop beating around the bush and take away helmets. Then they can get the type of football they want.

Definitely a penalty. I wouldn't go as far as suspending dude though UNLESS the coaches told the players not to do that and he did it anyway to get a highlight.

psusnoop
09-18-2012, 02:41 PM
Penalty yes, suspension no way. If he hits someone The same way with the same penalty twice in one season then a 1 game suspension should be implemented.

Just my two cents.

SmoothPancakes
09-18-2012, 02:48 PM
Yeah, I don't think he was intentionally trying to be malicious or injure. He had a chance to just plain lay someone the fuck out and clean their clock, he went for it and got too high. He got penalized, I'm sure he got his ass chewed out by the coaches on the sidelines and Monday at practice/film session, so he'll think twice next time about going so high.

Only issue I truly have there is that instead of putting his shoulder pads into the gut of the guy and making him spew his lunch all over the field, he led with his helmet and went in too high for the hit. Leading with the helmet is my biggest issue with that play. Other than that, it was just a heat of the moment hit that he got too high on and got flagged for it.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8393220/lsu-tigers-practice-bomb-threat-campus

So, for the folks that don't know, my wife works at LSU in the IT department at the student health center. She called me and told me that she had to leave work due to the threat. She was home most of the day but LSU called the staff back in later that evening. Apparently the campus is too big for bomb-sniffing dogs to search everywhere so everyone had to look around for suspicious items. None were found anywhere so today was business as usual.

SmoothPancakes
09-18-2012, 03:42 PM
Someone is seriously going all out with this bomb threat shit. U of Texas, North Dakota State, Hiram College, now LSU. Someone's gonna be getting fucked by Bubba for a LOOOOONG time after they get caught. Once is bad enough, maybe a prank or an attempt to get out of a test or exam (like the dumbfucks who pull that shit in high school). To keep doing it four times, not only completely and entirely intentional, but malicious as well. Plus, I can't recall off the top of my head, but I seem to have some recollection of a federal law when it comes to calling in bomb threats or false threats in other states. Using the internet or phone to call in bomb threats to universities and college in Louisiana, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas, there's definitely some sort of federal law that this person or these people are gonna get bent over hardcore by.

Do you guys think the hit by #36 DJ Swearinger of South Carolina derserves a one game suspension?Suspension? No from the first angle ... maybe from the second. That was targeting and deserved a penalty, but could have also been a lot worse. Though, personally, I was a little less sympathetic after watching him bounce around thinking he'd just done something great. But he also didn't have to go up like he did, so ... I'm on the fence.

Based on the new rule, yes. What I do not care for is the unequal enforcement of the rule. In addition, back when I played that was called good D :dunno: maybe we will see flag or touch in the next ten years.Back when some people played, there were no helmets. Back when Roosevelt was President, deaths were common in the game.

I get what you're saying ... but you've got to play within the bounds of the game you're playing. And I don't think Chris Spielman would have thought that was good D. Among other things, he would have said to wrap up (which, as mors said, would have led to him tackling him lower and would have made it a much, much better play).

The NCAA and the NFL just needs to stop beating around the bush and take away helmets. Then they can get the type of football they want.+1. That's the only way it's going to happen.

baseballplyrmvp
09-18-2012, 11:05 PM
thats a penalty every day of the week....but a suspension is too much for a one time thing. however, if he starts becoming a repeat offender of that penalty, suspensions should definitely be considered in the future.

1997? You got beat by Nebraska, you did not win the Big 12 conference.
2010? You lost in a tiebreaker in the South and did not even make it to the conference championship game. OU beat Nebraska as the Huskers set off to the Big Ten.

:D One and done for Smith at head coach? The way this season is going, and only going to get worse (probably), his ass will be boiling hot by week 10.

True or false:

Arkansas wins no more than 3 games this season.

I say true. Their remaining schedule, @ Texas A&M, @ Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tulsa, @ #7 South Carolina, @ #23 Mississippi State, #2 LSU.

I'm going worst case scenario, Arkansas goes 2-10 this season, 3-9 the best I can see them finishing.

You're exactly right, I got it right for half the game. Just like I usually have 2 good rounds of golf

Jesus, Fresno State did something to piss this game away last night. Watching the replay of Fresno State-Tulsa on CBS Sports right now, Fresno State just had a 20 yard pick six (their second interception so far) to take a 13-0 lead over Tulsa with 9:24 left in the first quarter.
