People are funny these days inventing sports. Hockey. What a funny sounding game. Next thing you know, you'll tell me there are other made up "sports" other then football/basketball/baseball played here in America with ridiculous sounding names like soccer or tennis or something like that (I totally made those words up).

I listen to Kanye. College Dropout is amongst the greatest albums ever released but the truth is, he's a fallen star. He has the potential to be great but the thing that makes him great is also his downfall, his arrogance. He runs at the mouth, saying stupid shit left and right. He has no concept of perception. Dude thinks Kim K. is a bigger deal than M. Obama. Maybe to kids who don't know better but even people who hate the POTUS have a great deal of respect for the First Lady. Kanye also this he's Jesus now or something, the most influential person in the history of Earth. Kanye is so far up his own ass that's he's a mockery of himself.

Speaking of his plane (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/flying-high-exclusive-inside-story-biebers-pot-plane-n22056):

Justin Bieber and his father were “extremely abusive” to a flight attendant as their private jet flew from Canada to New Jersey on Friday, forcing her to take refuge in the cockpit, according to an official report obtained exclusively by NBC News.

According to multiple law enforcement sources, the leased, luxurious Gulfstream IV on which the 19-year-old Canadian pop star, his father and an entourage of 10 friends traveled was so full of marijuana smoke that the pilots were forced to wear oxygen masks.

“The captain of the flight stated that he warned the passengers, including Bieber, on several occasions to stop smoking marijuana,” says the official report of the incident. “The captain also stated he needed to request that the passengers stop their harassing behavior toward the flight attendant and after several warnings asked the flight attendant to stay with him near the cockpit to avoid any further abuse.”

According to multiple sources, the attendant was forced to spend much of the flight near the pilots as the plane travelled from Canada to Teterboro, N.J.

“The flight attendant stated the passengers, including Bieber and his father, Jeremy Bieber,” stated the report, “were extremely abusive verbally and she would not work another flight with them.”

Where is Suge Knight to hold this twerp over a balcony when we need him?

This is why I hate child musicians, performers, etc.

They have all this fame as little kids, make a bunch of money (not sure if they don't get access until 18 or if it just depends on each individual situation), they get all these groupies following them and going on and on online about them (the groupies are almost as bad, having read stories about some Bieber fans saying they'll murder someone because that someone said something negative about Bieber), and then by the time they turn 18, they've turned into entitled shits who think they can do anything they want to with no consequences. Case in point, your story about the plane ride to New Jersey.

That flight attendant should have sued him for verbal and emotional harassment, and I would have stood up and applauded her and hoped she took him for millions.

It should be obvious that only the wealthy "eat out" and should pay their share ;). The real questions.....when will all restaurants and businesses go to this and will they do it by choice or be forced? Shouldn't the fat and obese pay more since they burden the "collective" health system more? This is coming very soon and if so... what about known homosexuals or drug users, their behaviors increase health costs right? While we are at it all the sun bunnies at the beach, tanning salons and let us throw in bathing suit manufacturers and buyers because skin cancer costs us all more. Seems so much easier when people have freedom and its accompanying responsibility. Currently responsibility for many is being forced on the few.......this will not end well....

Not sure when stating FACTS became "tacky" but if stating basic simple truths (customers can tip whatever they want or not tip at all) so be it.

I suppose Liberals get upset when their Socialists Utopia "free" healthcare keeps getting dispelled by the fact that nothing in life is free. Going to be worse when/if Obama EVER kicks in the employer mandate. However, I suspect he will keep passing the buck until there is a new POTUS in 2017.

I don't believe Obamacare is meant to make healthcare "free." I believe it's purpose is to make sure people have access to healthcare (getting rid of pre-existing conditions) and make it so insurance companies can't say, "Nah, we ain't paying for that" when you need your insurance company to come through in your time of need.

I'm not in favor of government run healthcare but I'm also not in favor of the insurance companies running it either like it was before. Insurance companies only gave a damn about their bottom line and allowed plenty of people to go bankrupt or even die leaving people hanging.

No, I was discussing insurance, what it means as a business etc. I think you and oweb are discussing an entitlement and obligating some to pay for the responsibilities of others. I am going to say one thing on the matter, I agree 100% with what Soulja said about why the government got into it in the first place but I also don't think the government should be in the insurance business. The entire industry needed an overhaul not another provider.

Case in point isn't that the point of paying insurance to get help when you need it? So yes helping others is kinda there thing, that's why they get paid.

The reason medical services and insurance (which is not about "help" btw) cost so much for those of us actually paying is that so many receive its benefits for FREE. Insurance is about protecting against a possible future issue or loss. If something is pre-existing then you are not insuring against anything. No this is just more "entitlement" etc.........the responsible in society carrying more of the burden........it will collapse one way or another.......

I think the point is more that someone has to pay for your healthcare and insurance.....and it is not going to be him and I don't blame him.......dickish way to go about it, maybe but perhaps if our government instructors taught basic economics we would not be in this mess.

I think you and I are on the same page with this specific story. I would rather see this guy go the traditional route - raising prices to customers - rather than encouraging those customers to pay less for the service of his staff. I think it would be just as effective to protest by adding a note on receipts that say 'you paid $x.xx more today so we could comply with Obamacare', the same way grocery stories and gas stations show savings earned with loyalty programs.

The point is, who pays? This guy is having his costs of labor go up artificially by the government and it is for his employees. In essence he is telling his customers that his cost and their cost has gone up due to government mandate.....the so called benefit goes to the employees....well let them pay for their stuff and that is his point.

It's not about the flags or shirts or whatever. They can outlaw or ban whatever. My point was, there was potential for danger in school and whatever steps that need to be taken to keep the student safe needed to be done.

We come across issues all the time at the school I work out. We haven't had any political issues like this but I bet that if we had to choose between statements and student safety, we'll pick safety first and sort it out later.

No they CANNOT. The 1st Amendment begs to differ. I suspect Benjamin Franklin begs to differ as well:

Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins. ...

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Then again I suspect Mr. Franklin wouldn't think much about anyone on today's left.

Figure of speech. I'm not really for the banning of anything. What I'm saying is, trouble was brewing, the school took steps to ensure it wouldn't happen. If there was no trouble on the horizon, administration wouldn't have done anything about these flag shirts or whatever. Y'all seem more concerned about your right to wear a shirt or a flag or whatever they were fighting over more than the fact that student safety was being threatened.

Shirts with US flags were not banned. Some students were allowed to return to class wearing shirts with the flag. If I remember right (I read it yesterday), there were three students that were asked to turn their shirts inside-out. It doesn't say exactly what the difference was, only that the school felt like the shirts that went back to class wouldn't cause any problems. It also mentions that at least one of the three students was willing to accept whatever consequences that came with wearing his shirt.

CLW - what is it about this ruling that makes these judges liberals? The part when they say discussion about the rightfulness of observing Cinco de Mayo is outside scope of this case? 9th Circuit is most liberal appeals court in the entire country and they have a roughly 80% reverse rate when their opinions are taken up by SCOTUS
Judge Thomas - Clinton Appointee and on Obama's short list for SCOTUS vacancy
Judge McKeown - Clinton Appointee and another liberal on a short list for any SCOTUS vacancy - she writes the opinion of the court

You ALWAYS know the 9th Cir's opinion is questionable at best when they principally rely on 9th Circuit "law" on a Constitutional issue which they did in this case. They didn't even bother themselves with even quoting the actual text of the 1st Amendment. Moreover, I did not see any cases from any Iowa court in the opinion. However, just b/c an opinion is from Iowa does not mean it is a conservative one. Unfortunately, they have liberals (especially liberal judges) in Iowa too.

They begin the opinion with noting the need to "balance" people's 1st amendment RIGHTS and the government's apparent NEED to control the people (of course the Constitution says the Government cannot violate the people's RIGHT to speech but who cares). They then IGNORE the SCOTUS' holding in Tinker which is students have 1st Amendment rights at schools so long as their speech does not significantly interrupt the operations of school or violate the rights of others (basically you cannot just yell and interrupt the class lectures going on and interfere with students ability to learn in class)

NOTHING about a U.S. t-shirt (nor any other shirt) interrupts the ability to teach students. Rather, it was apparently the Latino (or as the court refers to them "Mexican") morons at the schools causing problems. As such the school's solution would/should have been to throw the Latino morons out or to otherwise discipline them. Of course, that would lead to "racists" charges so instead the school chose to violate the 1st Amendment rights of the other students who apparently did nothing other than wear T-shirts with American flags on them.

Ironically, the 9th Circuit then equates the U.S. flag (which undoubtedly flies somewhere outside, near or even in the courthouse) with the Confederate flag (none of the Confederate flag cases are from the SCOTUS and again most from the 9th Cir). Of course, to liberals the U.S. flag is just as offensive speech as the Confederate flag b/c the U.S. has been the greatest force of evil of all time (except when a democrat is in the white house - then everything is just fine).

Here is the truth, IF this case was simply kids wearing say a Pro-*** Marriage T-shirt and students threatened violence against those students and the school told the students to turn the shirts inside out the 9th Circuit would have FLIPPED THE F OUT and layed the hammer down on the school. However, they didn't and instead their speech here was simply a "pro USA over Mexico" speech and that simply cannot be tolerated in America b/c we all know Mexico is a far superior nation (thus the need for immigration reform).

Unless that is one of the few planes to ever crash fully intact, wouldn't there be debris if it crashed in the ocean, I mean something has to be buoyant enough to float right?

From what I understand, there could (should?) be some parts, perhaps rafts, part of wings, and possibly oil streaks.

Latest "theory" has it possibly landing on a small island (http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/14/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-plane/index.html?sr=tw031414malaysiaairlines9aVODtop):

Yet another theory is taking shape about what might have happened to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370: Maybe it landed in a remote Indian Ocean island chain.

The suggestion -- and it's only that at this point -- is based on analysis of radar data revealed Friday by Reuters suggesting that the plane wasn't just blindly flying northwest from Malaysia. And it's just one of untold theories floating around about what might have happened to the airliner, which disappeared a week ago Friday without leaving much of a trace of where it had gone or why.

Reuters, citing unidentified sources familiar with the investigation, reported that whoever was piloting the vanished jet was following navigational waypoints that would have taken the plane over the Andaman Islands.

The radar data don't show the plane over the Andaman Islands but only on a known route that would take it there, Reuters cited its sources as saying.

The theory builds on earlier revelations by U.S. officials that an automated reporting system on the airliner was pinging satellites for hours after its last reported contact with air traffic controllers. U.S. investigators concluded that the pings didn't come from other planes, leading some investigators to think the plane flew on for hours before truly disappearing.

Taken together, the data point toward speculation in a dark scenario in which someone took the plane for some unknown purpose, perhaps terrorism.

The movie-plot theory seems more complicated and unlikely than one in which the plane -- its flight crew perhaps incapacitated -- simply flew on until it ran out of fuel or faced some other problem. But it's one that law enforcement has to check out, former FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom said.

"You draw that arc, and you look at countries like Pakistan, you know, and you get into your 'Superman' novels, and you see the plane landing somewhere and (people) repurposing it for some dastardly deed down the road," he told CNN's Jake Tapper on Thursday.

Aviation experts say it's possible, if highly unlikely, that someone could have hijacked and landed the giant Boeing 777 undetected.

The international airport in Port Blair, the regional capital of the Andaman and Nicobar islands, has a runway that is long enough to accommodate a 777, according to publicly available data.

But the region is highly militarized because of its strategic importance to India, Indian officials with knowledge of the operation tell CNN, making it an unlikely target for pirates trying to sneak in an enormous airplane with a wingspan of more than 200 feet.

Denis Giles, editor of the Andaman Chronicle newspaper, says there's just nowhere to land such a big plane in his archipelago without attracting notice.

"There is no chance, no such chance, that any aircraft of this size can come towards Andaman and Nicobar Islands and land," he said.

The Malaysian government said Friday that it can't confirm the report.

And a senior U.S. official offered a conflicting account Thursday, telling CNN that "there is probably a significant likelihood" the plane is on the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

Radar signals recorded by the Malaysian military appeared to show that the missing airliner climbed to 45,000 feet, above the approved altitude limit for a Boeing 777-200, soon after it disappeared from civilian radar and turned sharply to the west, according to a preliminary assessment by a person familiar with the data.

The radar track, which the Malaysian government has not released but says it has provided to the United States and China, showed that the plane then descended unevenly to 23,000 feet, below normal cruising levels, as it approached the densely populated island of Penang.

That's actually exactly what I was wondering about. I wasn't presuming anything. I have no clue how many pounds of fuel (and therefore hours of fuel) a 777 carries. If it sure as hell wasn't 8 hours worth, then yeah, that thing had to of landed somewhere to fuel up. And if it did land and refuel somewhere, the why the hell hasn't anyone said anything about seeing it land and refuel? Some ground crew person had to be involved in refueling it, unless it landed at somewhere under private control. Either way, this whole situation is becoming more and more fucked up. What was originally an expected plane crash into the ocean, is now, who the hell even knows. One's guess is apparently as good as the next person's at this rate.

How many hours of fuel did it have?

I thought it was originally reported that it had five or so, but now they are saying it had at least enough for the remaining six hours to Beijing. As is par for this story, no 'facts' ever get repeated more than once. A recent article says that it had to be nearing its fuel limit. (No kidding?)

I think that the right price (or cause) in this part of the world would lead to many turning a blind eye if they saw/knew what was happening. Hell, it still seems like some governments helped the 9/11 hijackers - hijacking this plane would be easier than that.

Who knows if honest, but some commenters on articles who claim to work in the airline industry say that the plane could be repurposed relatively quickly (repainted, gutted, etc.) and could fly anywhere, virtually undetected - just an unidentifiable blip on a radar. Others say that if it flew under another plane, it would be completely undetected. Their worst fear is that the plane would be used to take a dirty bomb wherever it is headed or become an ICBM.

Those kind of theories seem to be getting laughed at in articles (especially by the US - "silly movie plot!"), but I think western governments should be on edge until this plane is found. In the states, they should probably be more concerned about this plane paying us a visit than sending aid to the Ukraine, posturing for the 2014/2016 elections, putting spyware on everyone's computer, etc.

Yep. That is the debt that the "Greatest Generation" left us. Too scared to fight a beleaguered Red Army in 1945 and we are still dealing with it 70 years later.

The US came back from WWII waving flags and proclaiming victory. However, the Allies doomed millions of Eastern Europeans to enslavement, starvation, persecution and death by handing them over to Stalin.

I would be willing to bet that a vast majority of those people couldn't care less that the Nazis were defeated. Their lives never got any better.

Sorry to drift off topic. Just something I know a bit about.

Military search planes flew over a remote part of the Indian Ocean on Thursday hunting for debris in "probably the best lead" so far in finding the missing Malaysia Airlines flight (http://news.yahoo.com/australia-checking-2-objects-search-plane-031712226--finance.html), officials said.

The four planes were checking to see if two large objects spotted in satellite imagery bobbing in the ocean were debris from Fight 370 that disappeared March 8 with 239 people on board.

Australian authorities said the first plane to reach the area was unable to locate the debris through clouds and rain, but that other planes would continue the hunt.

One of the objects spotted by satellite imagery was 24 meters (almost 80 feet) in length and the other was 5 meters (15 feet). There could be other objects in the area, a four-hour flight from Australia's southwestern coast, said John Young, manager of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's emergency response division.

"This is a lead, it's probably the best lead we have right now," Young said. He cautioned that the objects could be seaborne debris along a shipping route where containers can fall off cargo vessels, although the larger object is longer than a container.

Young told a news conference in Canberra, Australia's capital, that planes had been sent to the area about 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) southwest of Perth to check on the objects. He said satellite images "do not always turn out to be related to the search even if they look good, so we will hold our views on that until they are sighted close-up."

An in-flight Air New Zealand safety video, which had been branded sexist, has been replaced.

The film featured models dressed in bikinis demonstrating safety procedures with airline equipment.

Australian Natasha Young began a Change.org petition which called on the airline to stop using the video.

"This video completely disregards passengers who find it offensive," she said.

The petition against it got more than 11,000 signatures.

"A safety video is to alert passengers on what to do in an emergency; it should not be an excuse to objectify the sexualized female body," added Young.

The petition heard from concerned parents about their children's "impressionable nature", from people who found it difficult to watch because of "religious beliefs" and from people with body issues.

The women, seen relaxing around a pool and on a beach, are well known Sports Illustrated models like Christie Brinkley, Hannah Davis, Jessica Gomes, Ariel Meredith and Chrissy Teigen.

They show passengers what to do in an emergency situation.

Procedures include how to inflate a life vest and exit the plane.

In one shot two models are seen gazing at themselves in a mirror after putting on oxygen masks.

The four-minute video, uploaded to YouTube in February, has have been viewed more than 5.4 million times.

Air New Zealand insisting the removal of a video was a scheduled change.

A spokeswoman said: "We typically change out our safety videos every few months.

"As scheduled we began the process of phasing in the Bear Essentials of Safety video featuring Bear Grylls on our fleet around a week ago and this process is almost complete."

This can't be good http://www.wearecentralpa.com/story/d/story/malaysian-passenger-plane-crashes-in-ukraine/24664/GcgLvgjvrEmJYcLjEpIV2A

A Malaysian passenger airliner crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border, according to a Ukrainian official.

An adviser to Ukraine's Interior Minister says a Malaysian passenger plane carrying 295 people has been shot down over a town in the east of the country. Anton Gerashenko says on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 33,000 feet when it was hit Thursday by a missile fired from a Buk launcher.
President Petro Poroshenko denied that Ukraine had any involvement in the plane crash.

CBS News has not confirmed that the plane was shot down.

Malaysia Airlines said on its Twitter feed that it "has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace. More details to follow."

A source told Interfax that the Boeing 777 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

A spokesman for Ukraine's Security Council said earlier on Thursday that an Air Force fighter jet had been struck and shot down by a missile fired from a Russian plane. Spokesman Andrei Lysenko said in a televised briefing that the pilot of the Sukhoi-25 jet was forced to bail from his craft after it was shot down Wednesday evening.

Rebels in conflict-wracked eastern Ukraine immediately claimed responsibility for downing the Antonov AN-26, but Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletey said the rocket might have been fired from inside Russia.

Heletey said the plane was flying at an altitude of 21,300 feet, which he said was too high to be reached with the weapons used by the separatists fighting government troops.

According to the Interfax reports, MH17 was hit at close to normal cruising altitude for a passenger jet, around 30,000 feet. No shoulder-fired missile is capable of effectively targeting an aircraft at that altitude, lending credence to the reports that it might have been a military air defense type missile like the self-guided Buk system cited by the Russian news agency.

The NTSB, FAA and Boeing are all aware of the reports of the crashed Malaysian Airlines plane - they're still in the process of gathering information and don't have anything more to add at this time.

NTSB says that if this is a Boeing 777 plane, they would have stake in the investigation.

Foreign airlines aren't going to give a rip what the FAA says. Though they all should be smart enough to avoid that area. (However, if they avoided every area in the world where there is fighting, there'd be few planes in that part of the world.)

This is the third airplane to be shot down in that area over the past week, however I think those two combined for a handful of deaths. This plane going down actually makes it 'newsworthy.'

Our society is so quick to judge brain issues. We go to doctors when we have issues with our heart or limbs or stomach yet if someone has a brain issue, we just call them crazy. People just don't understand how sensitive the brain is to chemical imbalances and too much or too little of a chemical can cause people to not be themselves.

Nope. Evidence starting to trickle in that the kid pushed the cop back into his car and tried to grab the cop's gun and apparently a shot was fired inside the police car during the struggle.

IF that story holds up the cop was indeed justified in using deadly force under the law as the kid was a fleeing felon and a risk to others in the community.

Of course, when the report comes out showing the kid's finger prints on the gun as well as the officer's what will the race bait types do then? No doubt they will argue the evidence has been faked and the morons ransacking rather nice malls and small business stores, gas stations etc... will carry on with their nonsense.

Nope. Evidence starting to trickle in that the kid pushed the cop back into his car and tried to grab the cop's gun and apparently a shot was fired inside the police car during the struggle. The biggest problem, so far, is that "evidence" in this case equals rumor. I've heard so many variations on what the story/evidence is that it's not even funny.

Plus, even if there was a shot fired during a struggle, the "witnesses" are alleging that the kid had stopped, put his hands up, and then was shot multiple times. We know the last part is at least true because the chief of the County police said it was "more than two".

Also, you're so late on this ... I posted a reference to it in the Can't Sleep thread Sunday night ;)

It really is disgusting. The way our modern society has become is quite a disgrace. Nobody takes responsibility; it's always someone else's fault; I can do what I want when I want; ... etc. If I ever saw my kid do something like that I would drive him to the police myself. Today, everyone is an "innocent victim." The parents will probably sue the person who took the picture!!! :fp:

All I will say is when the dumb press reporters are shot, robbed etc... by the mob they have no business complaining the police did not protect them.Last night one of the local reporters was on location and there were gunshots heard. A police officer recommended they leave, which they did. I don't think any reporter would take issue with the police trying to protect them. But to order them to pack up in the middle of the day, in a McDonalds, with little to no dialogue on why they were being asked to leave, that's a completely different situation.

This isn't Fallujah. The protesters have shown no intent, that I've heard of or observed, to injure, intimidate, or interfere with any member of the media. Forcing, not asking, them to move under no threat is irrational.

And now the law....

Assuming this story is true the officer was justified in using deadly force when the suspects attacked him and attempted to take his gun (assault of an officer and attempted murder of a police officer).

At that point they were fleeing felons who had shown on 2 prior occasions on that day their propensity for violence: #1 robbery by force at the store; #2 physically attacking the police officer and trying to kill him with his gun.

Law enforcement officer's use of force in making an arrest.

563.046.

1. A law enforcement officer need not retreat or desist from efforts to effect the arrest, or from efforts to prevent the escape from custody, of a person he reasonably believes to have committed an offense because of resistance or threatened resistance of the arrestee. In addition to the use of physical force authorized under other sections of this chapter, he is, subject to the provisions of subsections 2 and 3, justified in the use of such physical force as he reasonably believes is immediately necessary to effect the arrest or to prevent the escape from custody.

2. The use of any physical force in making an arrest is not justified under this section unless the arrest is lawful or the law enforcement officer reasonably believes the arrest is lawful.

3. A law enforcement officer in effecting an arrest or in preventing an escape from custody is justified in using deadly force only

(1) When such is authorized under other sections of this chapter; or

(2) When he reasonably believes that such use of deadly force is immediately necessary to effect the arrest and also reasonably believes that the person to be arrested

(a) Has committed or attempted to commit a felony; or

(b) Is attempting to escape by use of a deadly weapon; or

(c) May otherwise endanger life or inflict serious physical injury unless arrested without delay.

4. The defendant shall have the burden of injecting the issue of justification under this section

Missouri statute on the issue. Brown committed a felony (assault/attempted murder of officer) possibly used the officer's gun (deadly weapon) to escape and was a danger to others life or physical injury (already assaulted the store worker and police officer that day and those things tend to escalate quickly).

"Is immediately necessary to effect the arrest".

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that means you don't need to shoot an unarmed, non-resisting man between three and eight times.

Also, in your previous post when you mentioned that they had previously committed a felony, jaymo's link, contains a quote from the Ferguson Police Chief that admits the officer knew nothing about the robbery when he approached Brown. So he didn't have any proof of any previous act at that time. Unless walking while black was the previous crime.

Sorry if I sound pissed off or like I'm singling you out, but this has been a long week, and seeing this story dominate the headlines, both locally and nationally, hasn't made it any better. In regards to the fact that the officer didn't know Brown was involved in the robbery earlier in the day, that doesn't take into account the fact that Brown may have not known why the officer was confronting them. The two teens were walking in the middle of the street and the officer asked them to move... it's highly possible that Brown thought the officer was confronting them due to the robbery. Obviously that's pure speculation and no one will know, but if the reports of him wrestling with the officer are true, that's probably what sparked it... Brown thought he was fighting to stay out of jail.

At the end of the day, it's unfortunate. But how both sides have handled it since then have been atrocious.

One positive last night. There were more looters and troublemakers out last night, mostly young people unfortunately, but protesters and a local politician were among the group that stood in their way and put a stop to it. Police were not involved in ending that looting. If the people of Ferguson start talking more responsibility for stopping the troublemakers in the area from destroying their own neighborhoods, good for them. Maybe this story will get back to being about the protesting and not the chaos and violence.

Wrong.

It has come out that the officer didn't know about the robbery - but that doesn't matter b/c Brown was still a fleeing violent felon.

The facts appear to be - The officer told the kids to get out of the middle of the street (jaywalking = misdemeanor). The kids apparently refused and at least one of them (presumably Brown) attacked the officer. Once Brown pushed the officer and tried to grab the officer's gun (and potentially even fired the gun in the car during the struggle) he became a violent felon and the officer certainly knew that (assault/attempted murder of a police officer is certainly a felony). Moreover to call Brown "non-resisting" lacks any credibility considering the facts the investigation has brought forth so far (i.e. struggle in the car and a shot fired).

Presumably after struggling for the gun (and losing that attempt) he ran attempting to escape (after all why else do you run from the po po). Thus the shooting became "immediately necessary" due to the distance Brown (the violent felon) had put between himself and the officer.

Bottom line, you comply with an officer's commands and you CERTAINLY NEVER touch a police officer and try to grab his gun. Brown just got what was coming to him. It is as simple as that.

There was another officer-involved shooting two nights later in the same area. It was quickly reported that there was a weapon either shown to or pointed at the officer involved. As far as I've seen, no one has so much as grumbled about that one.

BTW, going back to an earlier post of yours, as of Friday the police were still not willing to say that Brown was the one that was allegedly in the car reaching for the weapon. So while it's understandable to assume that, given the situation, the fact that they don't know it for sure just adds to the problem of the circumstances being utterly unclear.

Yep.

When I was like 20, I buried an HIV+ guy that was about my age and who was shot by the cops because he pointed a gun at them. His friends and family tried to say that he was going to hand the gun to the cops (he was at a party, cops were called, they made someone else drop the gun and he picked it up).

Obviously, they played Wind Beneath My Wings at the funeral, lol. I remember thinking, "Some hero. HIV+ and shot dead by the police".

As a lawyer you wouldn't believe some of the crap people try to pull. I can only imagine how bad it is in criminal law.

One of my favorite cases of all-time was a slip an alleged slip and fall case. Guy claimed he needed back surgery despite the fact all of the MRIs x-rays etc... said his back was perfectly fine.

Of course, he (and Plaintiff's counsel) didn't know we had video from this alleged fall where the guy literally looked around to see if anyone is watching and then just laid down and smacked the floor with his arm and screamed bloody murder.

The best part is the kicker, the Plaintiff's attorney found some quack doctor willing to open him up in surgery and now he's paralyzed from the surgery from the waist down and after losing his case against my client of course filed malpractice claims against his lawyer and doctor.
