Akron overcomes 5 turnovers en route to defeating UMass 35-20.

Despite 3 lost fumbles and 2 interceptions, The Zips managed to sneak away with a win against UMass. Aside from the turnovers, offensively Akron was excellent, racking up 462 total yards of offense. QB Clayton Moore completed 10/14 passes for 335 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. 222 of those yards went to WR Keith Sconiers who caught 4 passes and added 2 touchdowns. Running the ball, HB Jawon Chisholm returned to action in style as he amassed 106 yards on 22 carries with 2 touchdowns.

Defensively the Zips also managed two take-aways of their own but the most critical was an interception with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game by FS Johnny Robinson, allowing them to run out the remainder of the clock.

With the win, The Zips remain in control of their own destiny for the MAC title at 6-3 (4-1). With MTSU having two losses (Akron's conference loss), that means that the Zips need to win their 3 remaining games. Next week, Akron travels to Memphis to face the JBHuskers' coached team. After that, they then have trips to Toledo and perhaps most important, conference leader Western Michigan. If they manage to finish out the remainder of the season in fashion, that would give Akron the tie-breaker over Western Michigan.

GG bj... definitely tough when your kicker can't knock those important FGs through.

Memphis becomes bowl eligible with a mild upset of Western Michigan 20-10. Both teams are now 6-3. Great defense by Memphis, only allowing a late TD with an early FG. WMU was stopped in the redzone a total of three times.
