View Full Version : Defense Mass Subs - Is there any reason to do it?

Knock on wood, I have never had a defensive player injured. And I mean that in the sense of being more than knocked out of a game. Always back the next week. That being the case, I continually wonder if there is a reason to ever Mass Sub my defense. Especially since the idea behind putting in your subs is to save your starters from getting hurt and to give your second team experience. Has anyone had a player out for weeks or the season? I follow our groups OD through NCAA 11, 12 and now 13 as well as all of my own solo leagues and have never seen a defender out.

If defensive players don't get hurt for more than a game and there is no upside to getting the second team experience, why use it?

I still think that there should be a better scale for off-season improvements. If I have 2 Backup RBs returning and one of them has playing time and the other doesn't. The one that does, should get a 4-6 increase and the one that doesn't should get a 1-3, on the average and barring the CPU deciding a player had a breakout off-season.

to give your second team experience.
Pretty much the only reason.

I can't recall OL or any defenders ever missing games due to injury. Only skill players, like QB, RB, and WR. Even then, WR was/is rare. Can't specifically recall TE or FB ever missing games either.

That is the only real time I mass sub the defense. I just let the 2nd string get snaps. Thats the only reasons. They dont get injured.

Something I havent done in NCAA is use auto-sub for defense. I usually just keep it where it is at. But, I will start using it more to my advantage.

I've lost defensive players for multiple weeks in the past, but it is extremely rare.

Sometimes I'll mass sub late in a game, especially on my opponent's side of the 50, to let my starters rest. Then I'll bring them back in if my opponent starts to threaten to score (usually I do this in a shutout I'm trying to preserve). I get tired of seeing my starters get pulled near the red zone because they've worn out over the course of the drive.

If you want defensive players to get hurt, put them in at QB or RB. They get hurt every game.

Well played, sir. I approve.

I can go along with resting your first string and putting them back in when trying to perserve a shutout or to not get injured. However, why give the 2nd team snaps if there is no benefit to it.? It doesn't increase their stats or abilities right?

This season I have actually used mass subs my offense and defense less than usual. However, I saw something this year that I don't recall ever seeing in NCAA... my RT was injured fo ra game. I could not believe it. I have seen it in Madden but not NCAA.

Injuries have been something that I would love to see more of. From all angles to be honest. What Fifa does is really something I'd like to see.

On Fifa players get injured quite a bit and challenge your depth. You can have players get hurt during the week. You can have a player coming back from a knee injury and all of a sudden that player is in a knee brace. Steelerfan has mentioned this way more then myself and has a little more depth then myself.

Back to the original question, I've never used mass subs. If I want to get my second team snaps I'll drop people on the depth chart. I would rather pick who plays where and when then just clicking a button.

I'm lazy. I use Mass Subs.
