My NC State squad held on in the opener against Whatcha's Air Force team 31-21. Pretty sloppy game with penalties and interceptions on both teams. But it was a close and fun game throughout. GG Whatcha.

I OWNED mojo. Beat him 55-7 and had 483 passing yards and 120 rushing yards. I was 25-31 (80% completion) with NO interceptions. Should have had the shutout but my safety screwed up the coverage. Question: How often will we advance it?

Well, after the game I just played, they would probably switch to play for BYU anyways. I got smoked 51-38. :fp: However, I did run into some troubling issues. Aside from my 4 picks, I had one guy get a ball thrown to him wide open in the end zone, but he just stood there and it hit him in the face, so I had to settle for a FG. WR's not even attempting for a pass seems to be an issue this year. BTW, he was looking at the ball.

On another note, I had a fumble recovery that was returned 89 yards by my team, BUT it gave THEM the ball at the 2 yard line. Of course, they scored a TD. Lastly, I started with the ball at my own 2 and came out to pass, well, I wanted to audible to a run, but it would not let me. It did the audible like it registered it, but my team stayed with the same passing play. I didn't want to waste any time outs, so I ran the play, but it resulted in a safety.

So, If some of these things wouldn't have occurred I could have pulled off the W. It was a heart breaker. On some of the picks, My WR's when I user controlled them, also wouldn't respond to me pressing Y to catch the ball. Four picks is repulsive... and embarrassing :blush:. Yet, despite the poor QB play int wise, I was able to put up some great passing numbers, and spread the ball around very effectively.

Oh, they also had a 69 yard TD on the last play of the half... :mad:

It was a good game. The talent difference showed up late. My QB was 8-22 missing a few WIDE OPEN receivers. Smh. And the number of holding and face mask penalties my squad had showed what games will be like on the road for me this year. How exciting. LOL! It was my first full game using the AF offense, though, so it was interesting. Should have practiced a bit more. Took me a few drives to figure the team out (even though it is my alma mater and even though I was recruited to play QB there). 1996 seems so far away. LOL

And I don't even control the sticks or anything post snap, I'm strictly a coach mode guy so it's not even me just bombing away.

On to my actual game I guess. Mustangs win 34-17 against the Baylor Bears behind a strong passing performance from QB Gilbert and his WR corp. The running game also did some nice things in limited carries. I watched every play on defense and save for a couple long bombs over the top the defense played excellent. I now have two user games in a row so we'll see how that goes with me as a coach mode guy against all you great thumb jockeys around here :)

is there a way to implement coach mode on a user/user game? I honestly have never played a game like that but wouldnt mind trying it

The only way to do it user v user is to turn auto-pass on and just do all your normal stuff pre-snap and then hike it and hands off. Same with defense, anything pre-snap is far game but after it's snapped, hands off. Have to control the kicking game but that's it. I've never been a thumb jockey, always played this way since 04.
I like playing this way more as it relies on your coaching abilities and your ability to get/put the right players in the right spots to succeed and relies none on your stick skills, which I have none of :)

Well the user passing is down to 15. I threw a few bombs against Whatcha and wasn't that successful, except for a 100 yard TD pass, but that really wasn't a bomb, it was a 10-yard streak with a lot of YAC.

Probably not going to be able to do anything about the long passes, seems to be one of the great things EA gave us this year.
Hopefully they'll tone it down (because they won't fully fix it) with the impending patches.

its there, but i think knowing that it needs to be fixed makes it stick out in our minds more... make sense? like with me any long passes i had were the result of the CPU adjusting to my 300+ rushing yards and me using PA to go over the top...

I didn't really attempt any bombs until mid 3rd Q when they had just made it 60 to something. Every possession they had, they scored. It also didn't help that I threw 3 picks in the first half plus a couple of three and outs. Mr. Smith had 8 passing TDs ����

here's the image of his setup.... the linebacker on the LOS would blitz, and he'd have everyone crash toward the blitzing linebacker's side.

i was in 4 and 5 wide the entire game yes....but i wasnt abusing a flaw in the ai either. whatever, congrats on the win.

Okay. Watched the videos. Can't really determine if it's cheddar because I can see the opportunity to counter it. May just be the way the video shows it or maybe there's something I'm missing. In most cases if the QB steps up in the pocket there are two guys that could pick up the block. But the QB doesn't move. Not sure if the video is slowing things down and you didn't have time to step up or what. I can see that there is a QB spy or a guy that looks like he's spying the QB as well, but again, there are a number of holes in the defense I see there. How many draws did you run? I see 1 rushing attempt by the running back in the stats.

Not saying it is or isn't cheese. Just saying that calling something cheese is a strong accusation in any online dynasty (I am a commissioner in an online dynasty as well). There's nothing that leaps out to me as cheese in the videos you posted, but others may have a different opinion. It was probably a very frustrating game, based on the stats, but frustrating doesn't mean cheese.

I got a chance to take a look at things, and I fully agree with Whatcha. You need to adjust in this case, and CALM DOWN. Yelling obsenities and calling someone out for cheese doesn't help at all. Mixing up the offense would help instead of going 4 & 5 wide all the time.

...and I'll advance tonight early evening when I get home from work.all i have in my playbook is 4 and 5 wide sets. i dont have any 2 back formations in my offense. thats the air raid/run and shoot offense that i run. draws and every other running play would have been tackled in the backfield for a loss. keeping a rb in to block was also resulting in a sack. he sacked me 6 times all game, but that number would have been at least twice as much had all the hurried pass attempts not gotten off. i had less than 2 seconds every play. i'm just mostly disappointed that he had to bring an online lobby tactic of abusing the bad o-line ai and running a nano every play from the start of the game.

apparently i was wrong about the formation, as here's a youtube vid setting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBGtT6WzwdQ)up exactly what he was running. its a 3-4 solid gap press nano blitz. only thing he was doing that was different than what that vid shows, is he was shifting and crashing to the side where the 2 linebackers on the right are lining up, and spying one of the mlb's.

i know its wrong to throw the cheese button right away, but he called that play all game long. there was only 1 other time where i remember he called a different play and that was a quarters prevent defense with 1 second left before halftime. other than that, he ran this every play when he was on defense. correct me if i'm wrong, but hasnt that largely been a cheese tactic in the past, of running the same play over and over and over (especially when its an advertised nano on youtube)?

am i pissed that i lost? ya. did i deserve to win? not with how shitty of defense that i played. did i expect to have someone use a nano against me every play? not in the least bit. him doing this on defense wasnt even close to the sim and realistic play that i got from you, cdj, whatcha, austin, and arkitecto last year.....where no one called the same play 98% of the game. that last comment is the one that i'm pissed about the most.

I haven't really experienced a nano blitz against anyone I've played and like I said, the videos may not have captured your experience from the game. JB said each user has 3 user games, so I guess we will see the experiences the other 2 have.

What I just saw in the YouTube video didn't seem to match what I saw in the easports videos. As commentary, though, that isn't a nano blitz, despite what the video's creator is saying. If a team overloads one side with a blitz then yes, someone will come free. You see it all the time with Baltimore and Pittsburgh in the nfl. When you see it as a QB you have hot routes you use to counter it. The reads are quicker, of course, but there are open people all over the field in those situations. It's a gamble by the defense. "I can get to you before you can let go of the ball."

If I blitz 6 against 5 wide is it a nano blitz? There's absolutely no way you can block all 6, but that's why it's a cover 0 call on defense. No help over the top. If the WR gets the ball and beats his defender it's a huge play. If the offense doesn't adjust it's a sack. Nothing cheesy about that. It's simple math. If I rush 4 from the left and you don't slide protect to the left or have a quick release of some sort, things won't go well for the offense. But if you make an adjustment to hit that slot receiver on a quick crossing pattern behind the blitzing LBs you will run for awhile. 5 step drops are out during a blitz.
