I graduated from Southern Miss in December, 2001. I haven't had a chance to go back since I graduated. My wife's family reunion is (was) in Laurel, MS (30 mins. north of Hattiesburg) so a trip to the alma mater was in the cards. There was a lot of construction going on back then but the city and campus are so different now, it's almost unrecognizable. Here are some pics of my visit.

My dorm freshman year:

Almost all my athletic training classes were in this building

The eagle statue the team walks by before entering the field (notice that it's OUTSIDE, the team doesn't come out of a stadium tunnel)

Under the stadium where they do the Eagle Walk before games. We have 2 lower division National Championships (we have a lot of other accomplishments to go with our NCAA 13 D+ Program Tradition like C-USA Team of the Decade).

The practice field where I spent many a afternoon as a student athletic trainer

Vann Hall, also known as the "football dorm." Where I lived when I got put on scholarship.

The dorm I stayed in post-freshman year but pre-athletic dorm.

Nice man! I think my dad tried to tell me this before I went to school, but I didn't understand it at the time ... Ohio State is such an urban campus, with no real atmosphere (outside of a few select places). I couldn't take nearly as nice pictures of practically anywhere on campus (outside of those few select places). Looks like a really nice, well designed campus.

My freshman year, the saying was that you could get from 1 end of campus to the other in 10 minutes (give or take). The campus is pretty compact (but expanding rapidly it appears). It was very common to run into people you knew multiple times a day just walking around which was cool. It built a nice sense of community on campus. It was like Cheers where everybody knew everybody.

At Ohio State you can get to practically any main campus classroom within 12 minutes, but that's about all you can guarantee. If you're over on West Campus, hop the bus, it's your only chance :D

Jesus, that place is massive. I was on the Ohio State campus back my senior year for Science Olympiad (how else would you get to build a scaled size, fully working trebuchet out of wood, metal, piping, and other materials, and then launch it during school in a science class competition? :D), some areas, between watching some of the events others from our school were competing in, and where our event was at, it easily took 15 minutes to a half hour to reach some areas of the campus on foot.

:D Not quite. Only did it for the trebuchet. That thing was a piece of art by the time it was built. Me and a friend built it by ourselves, took two weeks working in his dad's workshop out in the garage, building it out of wood and metal. We were only using eggs (no rocks or small boulders :(), but were routinely launching them over 100 yards. I would have loved to have built a full scale trebuchet and see what kind of destruction we could have caused with that bitch, launching large rocks and boulders. :D

Great pics man! Thanks for sharing. We need a thread to post all the pics of the different universities people attended. This makes me want to pull out the camera and go back to the two universities I got my degrees from.
