View Full Version : What position do you control on D?

Looking forward to getting the game tomorrow and starting up my dynasty. I was wondering what position most people control while on defense and why. I have traditionally played as DE, but am thinking about switching it up to play LB or S. Let me know what you've enjoyed controlling and have had success with in the past. Thanks.

Depends on what mood Im in.

Traditionally, I start out on the DL, simply because I hate seeing my block shedding, passrush move monster DE or DT, playing patty cake, vs a man he should be blasting.

Other times, I want to relive my glory days as a ball hawking, FS.

Strictly MLB because I feel I can play it better than the cpu does. I typically am in the race for LB of the year in the OD's I am in and like to bait users into throwing picks to my guy. ;)

I like playing DT, I can usually be disruptive in the run game and get pressure on the QB.

I've wanted to learn to play MLB for quite a while. But, frankly, I suck at it. I know nothing about playing an LB. I'm wondering if folks know of any good resources out there for learning to play LB (I'm assuming it's going to be a real-world resource). I feel I'm getting better at Offense, but I still suck BIT time at defense :(.

The key to playing LB is get your eyes out of the backfield. Watch the offensive guard (playside). They usually take you to the ball.

^^^This.

The G will tell you were to go.

When you do read run, resist the urge to go for the Ray Lewis highlight reel hit, every play.

You dont have to make every tackle. Dont over pursue. Hem the HB in, and force him to help, if need be.

In pass coverage, follow your assigned play-art drop until you are threatened. It's better to give up a 5 yd shallow cross, then see a TE or slot WR go busting up the seams.

It's just repetition. the more you do it, the better you will get at diagnosing plays, and route combos.

DE is my common choice. I especially like to player lock the position.

Usually FS. Sometimes SS.

Safety. I'll occasionally switch to MLB when my opponent thinks he's going to continue to dink and dunk drag routes. I never, ever, ever touch the DL, though.

Mostly MLB or SS. I rarely touch the DL unless I have a absolute beast where I can power move and get through almost every time.

FS almost exclusively. Will occasionally use the SS but only because the two are flipped in a couple 4-3 formations.

DL for me, but now getting more comfortable with using the MLB.

MLB or OLB 90% of the time... just depends on what their assignment is.

skipwondah33

MLB 99% of the time. Occasionally I will manual the FS or SS depending on what I am trying to accomplish on that given play.

DT, which is where I can do the least amount of damage due to my diminished stick skills.

LB all the time. Gives me more ability to make a play.

I am going to try and play more LB this year. I do admit though that I find it a hard position to play in this game.

i'd say 97% of the time i play a position on the DL, but i tend to control different players on the line kind of depending what i think might be coming at me next.

on occasion i'll drop back and play a LB, not not very often.

Honestly, I play everywhere. I use the DT, DE, LB, S, and sometimes even the CB. In the past, I used the safety a ton, but now it's mostly the LB and DL.

The base passrush annoys me so much, that i am rapidly leaning towards controlling my best passrushing DL. full time.

I love reliving the ol FS glory days, but I cant tolerate the weaker base 4 man passrush much longer

ROLB except in Dime and then usually the worst of my DEs on the field at that time. I am "trusting" that the CPU will play the better player better. If I play as the worse player, then hopefully my ability makes them a little better.

Same... I'm using the SS1 about 90% of the time now in the 3-3-5.

I pick the worse of the 2. nice versatility...can play the run, man defense, zone, blitz, without giving away your intentions, or assignment, pre snap

I pick the worse coverage of the two but generally the better tackler. That way when I come up to make a play, I know there's less a chance for him to slip through my fingers.

I follow the same thought process when using a OLB in a standard 4-3.

It's not too far away, where it feels like I cant do anything, and it isnt the traffic nightmare that MLB is :D
