Sooo, I am bored. What teams are going to be available G? Or better yet, what prestige will Ark St be?Arkansas State is a 2-star prestige... however, I'm thinking we'll probably start with the bottom 12 teams that are 1-star prestige. Not exactly sure yet.

We get enough seasons in to where I'm fine with starting with the bottom 12.

Are you thinking CC as Coordinators again? Also, you jerks should be getting the game soon, right? :P

Personally I think I'd rather start as a HC but at the same time, there's a true accomplishment to get to a HC that can compete with our other teams. My on complaint is that I was at ASU for 5 seasons and all I was doing was boosting my HCs resume.

For this league, I wouldn't mind starting as a HC, but you can take a coordinator job if one suits you down the road within the established team limits.

I cannot wait to be able to tell what kind of offenses these teams run. I think I might not run the Pro-Style in this dynasty.

I'll almost certainly be running a Shotgun Option offense in the vein of Richrod while at Michigan. Lots of Shotgun Split sets with maybe a little Malzahn influenced formations mixed in. Even if I can't find the QB I want to run my option, I'll still consider moving a WR or HB to run it so long as they have 60+ THP... I intend for there to be that much running. Hopefully though with the new ATHs, I'll be able to find even a lower 2-star or 3-star player that can run.

ryby6969
06-14-2012, 03:57 PM
Yeah, I am thinking of running a spread attack this year in this league. I want to get more diversified in my offense. I may just end up doing a Multiple O attack. I think I will be that much tougher to stop on O if I can do that. Especially with the improved CPB's.

Arkansas St with a big QB commit today. They are going to be extremely fun to play with in the future with all the talent Malzahn is most likely going to bring in on top of what they currently have in the pipeline.

Hobbs is a really nice pickup. They are going to be doing well for themselves in the future that is for sure.

The question will be how long will Malzahn stay. If he has a really good year, I could see some big schools coming at him hard.

I could see it going either way. I think the earliest he leaves will be after 3 years. However, based on what he says, so long as the school administration is supporting him and helping him improve the program like he wants, then I could see him becoming a lifer. As he's said, he's not the average college coach... he's a high school coach that just happens to be coaching at a college. He's not looking to jump up the coaching ladder. That combined with the fact that I'm sure his wife would love to stay out of the spotlight of the SEC, I wouldn't be surprised for him to stay around for a long time.

He's at least saying all of the right things for us fans. He's making it sound like he's going to be around for a long time.

Can Ark St. compete money wise with what some of these schools could shell out? I am looking at the Tenn of the world who could be looking for a coach after the season who have big budgets that are willing to throw money around. I am not saying he would leave for money, but the numbers some of these teams can throw around are insane and will test even the most loyal of people! :D

No, by no means can we compete. We're paying $850k right now plus posh house & car paid for so it will be easy for Tennessee or someone to pay him more, however, I really don't think he'd be after the money. That combined with the fact that at Arkansas State, he has 100% control over the program. In the 6 months he's been here, things have been completely changed just for him. We're building a $25M practice facility that wasn't in the plans 6 months ago. At Tennessee, he wouldn't have control over hardly any of the things that happen outside of the football field and the entire time that he's at Tennessee he'll be second-guessed for everything he does.

I'm not foolish enough to think there is no way he'd leave, but I truly believe he'd have a hard time doing so unless it's the perfect scenario.

Ok, to stay on topic, you've got last pick in the draft.

Now back to the Arkansas State topic...

Yeah, being a Miami fan I have to hope the same thing about our coaches. Being a private school, we cannot compete with the big boys either. The only thing you can hope for is that a team like UT does not start throwing numbers like 4+mil and total control.(didn't Fulmer have full control?)

I use them as an example because I think Dooley's days are about numbered there between the poor on field performance and off-field issues.

I think people underestimate how much Malzahn loves the state of Arkansas. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him stay at ASU for a very long time much like Petersen at Boise. I think he is 100% sincere in his stated goal of making ASU the Boise State of the south. He definitely has the coaching ability to make it happen imo.

I could see Al Golden leaving for PSU when 2 things happen. The healing starts and is on the right track, and when BOB (Bill O'Brien) decides he has had enough and is taking a job elsewhere in the NFL if he has success here at PSU within the first 2-3 years. Lots of ifs and what not, but Al's wife grew up close to PSU (30 or so minutes) and really has mentioned to friends she would love to come back. Damn near all of Al Golden's staff that would want to come up to PSU has strong PSU ties as well. Just a thought from a PSU fan to a Miami fan.

Yeah, I know that is definitely the case. I am not one of those fans that gets caught up in how long his contract is. I was skeptical of the hire but I love what he has done in his short time. I think the NCAA's decisions will go a long way in determining what happens with him in the near future.

Yea I don't get caught up in the contract length either. Wow he just signed this 5 year deal. Sorry folks I don't care if it's a 50year deal it's still only a 1 year contract.

I added a poll for HC vs Coordinators. Vote in it.

As far as us starting, we'll probably wait at least a week after launch to start the OD so that everyone can have time to get used to the game. I'll randomly order the team selection and will post that sometime next week. Team selection will begin the Saturday after launch. As mentioned before, we'll be using the bottom of the barrel for teams to start with.

Let me know any thoughts or questions.

I haven't posted one yet but I'm thinking probably Wednesday or Thursday of this upcoming week. That would allow those that didn't get it in Season Ticket to play with teams for a couple of days. We would then start the OD probably sometime over the weekend or so but not expect to start Week 1 until Tuesday (7/17).

Heh... yeah, I'll have a draft order available by this evening at the latest. I wanted to wait through the weekend so that anyone that wanted to drop due to issues with the game could do so.

Skip has decided to drop for the time being. If anyone else is considering do so, let me know. That said, IMO the game plays quite fun against another user and plays fairly improved against the CPU on Heisman default. I'll be testing out some sliders over the next week to make sure we have a competitive start.
