Dead Island: Riptide - 2013

Sequel to Dead Island, no info known as this point.

But what we do know, thanks to Deep Silver’s Aubrey Norris, is that Dead Island: Riptide will be retailing for $10 less than what most retail games typically sell for. Sleuths at Ripten noticed that online stores had Riptide priced at $50. Four returning characters, plus a fifth brand new character with an all-new and unique skillset. The combined skills of the group will be sorely needed, since terrible, new and unknown zombie mutations have emerged all over the island.

In new hub defense missions, the coop teamwork skills of the survivors will be tested to the limit -- they need to strategically place traps, fences and turrets to fend off oncoming Zombie onslaughts and to protect the humans in these sanctuaries.

New communication features in coop mode also allow players to enjoy an even more intense and strategic team experience.

New vehicles give you alternate means of dealing with the onslaught, while dynamic weather conditions will force the team members to adapt to changing visibility conditions.

I got it for $30 on Green Man Gaming plus I had a $15 credit so it became only $15... looking forward to this. It took me a little while to get into the first one but after seeing vids of this one, I think it will be easy to continue on.

So tempting because Amazon gave me $20 for messing up my Defiance pre-order bonus. But I have a HUGE backlog, including the first game of this series. But damn $10 credit, and this would cost $30 is almost hard to give up.

I beat the first one before the patch, no co-op, just by my lonesome. The last part of the game was brutal, just downright brutal. Also the backtracking through the sewers was a PITA.

Edit: They are also letting you import your Dead Island character over if you wish (stats/level but not blueprints and mods). Which sucks for me because I had to completely wipe my HD and thus my Dead Island save and anything that could be found on my profile.

Yeah over at Neogaf some guy posted an early review yesterday and showed the 360 version running like molasses. I cancelled my pre order and will wait and see if things pan out. Guess I am holding out hope that State of Decay kicks aas.

So far in playing it, it's essentially exactly like the first Dead Island. If you enjoyed it, you'll probably enjoy this one. There are some mostly minor frustrations but nothing that makes it a deplorable game experience. Essentially, equate it to Fallout: New Vegas is to Fallout 3...
