We've seen a number of videogame protagonists squeezed through the wringer over the years, but few have experienced such a horrifying, mind-shattering journey as Dead Space's Isaac. Hey, strategically dismembering countless humans turned grotesqueries will do that to a guy. Well, Visceral Games ain't done with old Isaac yet. EA has confirmed Dead Space 3 is in development and set for launch by March 2013.

We've heard the rumors for months, and EA made it official during its quarterly conference call yesterday: a new Dead Space is on the way. Aside from the confirmation, EA didn't provide any further details on Dead Space 3, but the publisher did say it will make "several big product announcements" at E3 in June.

 another series I need to catch up on. I think I'm fairly close to beating 1. But I've been away from it for a while.

EA has confirmed the long-rumored third installment of the Dead Space franchise is real and promises it will be unveiled during E3 next week. Speaking with IGN, EA said next week's big event will feature the first footage of the action-horror title.

Dead Space 3 footage is expected to debut during EA's press conference on Monday, June 4 at 1:00pm PDT.

Other than "it's happening, we're showing it to you soon," there isn't much in the way of details for the upcoming title. Leaked images from earlier today feature what could be two main characters. Co-op campaign possibilities? We're down with that.

A NeoGAF poster has confirmed that Dead Space 3 will feature a cover system as well as cooperative play. While the cooperative play can still hold the horror element, a cover system essentially removes a good bit of the “fear”.

As we had confirmed previously, Dead Space 3 will also mark the first time that Isaac fights against other humans that are, well, still alive. The Game Informer article that was quoted in the post stated that “unitologists” pose a threat to Isaac.

The multiplayer aspect that was found in Dead Space 2 has been scrapped and will not be available in Dead Space 3. The cooperative experience takes its place allowing you to play as Isaac Clarke or Carver. Ammo drops are now more plentiful and there’s a universal ammo that’s now available for all guns.

You’re also able to put two different guns together such as the Plasma Cutter & Ripper combo. Enemies will also drop scrap metal or “tungsten”, but the article didn’t detail into how this factors into the feature. ”Unique beta missions” are able to be completed, but they aren’t required to complete the main story arc. Dead Space 3 is said to be much more “open” and less linear than previous entries into the series.

For the release date, the article states that Dead Space 3 is set to launch in February 2013.

EA: Co-op In Dead Space 3 For Those Who Found Previous Dead Space Games Too Scary Solo

Research conducted by EA suggested that the first two Dead Space games were too scary, and so the team decided to add co-op to Dead Space 3 so players could share the fear.

EA Games marketing boss Laura Miele told MCV that the single-player aspect of the game was what scared players the most. However, she insisted that the publisher won’t be dropping the scare tactics used in the first two games any time soon.

“We were hearing feedback that they love the thriller game, but it was pretty scary, and the obvious next step was that they wanted to play with someone. So we introduced co-op into the game,” she said. “The horror of Dead Space is still all there. It’s still true to its roots and no less scary, but people felt far more comfortable playing it with someone else than they did doing it on their own.”

“Personally, I would rather go to scary movie with my husband rather than sit at home with the lights out watching one on my own. We’re looking for that to reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.”

Release date announced: February 5, 2013.

Surviving violent, subzero conditions while fighting gigantic creatures, human enemies and blood-thirsty Necromorphs won’t be as easy as it sounds! Gamers can go it alone, or fortunately for fans everywhere, they will have the chance to face these terrors with a friend when Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio launches Dead Space 3 in North America on February 5, 2013 (8 February 2013 in Europe). From the lonely depths of space, to a graveyard of derelict spaceships, to a frozen planet with brutal conditions, Dead Space 3 takes action and terror to incredible new heights. In Dead Space 3, the fate of mankind rests in the hands of engineer Isaac Clarke and his new merciless co-op partner, John Carver. Survival is more difficult than ever before, but Visceral Games announced today that fans who pre-order the Dead Space 3 Limited Edition at participating retailers will have the advantage of using two bonus* suits and weapons, right when they start the game.

The Dead Space 3 Limited Edition provides gamers with first access to two game bundles: “First Contact” and “Witness the Truth” – each of which contains an advanced suit and devastating new weapon. These hand-crafted weapon combinations act as initial blueprints for the millions of permutations players will be able to create using the all-new weapon crafting system in the game.

“First Contact” Bundle

First Contact Suit: This unique EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) suit was built by the SCAF (Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces) for encounters with "foreign entities.” It sports a flamboyant golden finish to provide protection from long-term space exposure and thick armor for… unspecified reasons. The suit was given the nickname "First Contact" by the scientists who made it.

Negotiator Weapon: While technically classified by the SCAF as a "scientific instrument,” the gold-plated "Negotiator" is loaded with some surprisingly aggressive hardware. The overclocked, top-mounted Tesla Beam is capable of bursting a man-sized organism into several pieces with a single shot. The bottom-mounted Linegun appears to have been built with the sole purpose of cleanly dismembering organic tissue from a distance.

”Witness the Truth” Bundle

Witness Suit: These insulated suits were worn by a SCAF deep dig team assigned to exhume the darkest secrets of Tau Volantis. Whatever they found locked deep in the ice changed them forever. When they emerged weeks later, they were covered head to toe in strange graffiti and claimed to be "Witnesses to the Truth.”

Evangelizer Weapon: A modification of the standard AL-2 used by the Sovereign Colonies Legionaries, this version sports a souped-up AL-2g assault rifle on the top with an Emerson 2100 "Big Boy" tactical shotgun on the bottom. The surviving "Witnesses" of the SCAF deep dig team dubbed it the Evangelizer and decorated them top to bottom with strange symbols.

Dead Space 3 Dev Team Collector's Edition Announced: (http://thegamefanatics.com/2013/01/11/dead-space-3-dev-team-collectors-edition/)

· 8 inch Marker statue

o The Black Marker is an alien artifact found on Earth in 2214. It radiates a signal that, depending on your intelligence, induces dementia or imprints blueprints into your brain for their reproduction. The signal also creates gruesome, violent life-after-death reanimations of dead flesh known as “Necromorphs”. The Marker’s final purpose is revealed in the story of Dead Space 3.

· Med Pack water bottle

o The Med Pack is a single-dose standard issue healing agent commonly used in the highly dangerous, isolated work environments of outer space. The vastly accelerated healing effects routinely save lives, but often result in misaligned-bones and other soft tissues, requiring follow-up surgeries to correct.

· 3 SCAF posters

o Nostalgic posters for an era long gone, the SCAF (“Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces”) represents the government prior to EarthGov 200 years ago, when space travel was done without Shockpoint drives, and was only for the bold and the courageous – and the military.

· 6 Vintage Peng postcards

o “Peng” as a phenomena stretches back over 200 years, as evidenced by these Sovereign Colonies-era postcards! No one knows who started Peng, or what its origins are. It had morphed into a pseudo-sexual morale booster for the troops even back then.

· Bound SCAF Jotter with Dr. Serrano’s notes

o Doctor Earl Serrano, the head of Marker research on Tau Volantis, , kept a careful journal of his findings under the watchful eye of the Sovereign Colonies military arm as he uncovered the shocking first-ever archeological contact with true aliens.

· 13” SCAF Tin Crate

o A standard shipping crate for the Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces, this one has seen a rare tour through several of the top-secret Red Marker sites, including Aegis VII, Uxor, Proxima Centauri and Aspera, to name a few.

· Aluminum Data Pad (Flipbook Binder) with 9 pages of concept art

o Before there were holograms, there were layered plates of projected data on glass. This flipbooks recalls the nostalgia of the 200-year old technologies from the Sovereign Colonies era, showcasing an array of fascinating characters, ships, Necromorphs and aliens from Dead Space 3.

· 80 page Mini Art Book

o A beautiful collection of the most haunting and visually-stunning concept art used in the production of Dead Space 3.

As soon as they made Dead Space 2 more about the shooting and less about the claustrophobic atmosphere and general scariness, it went down hill.
