Baylor Wins Insight Bowl!

The Bears finished their up and down season with a win over Illinois in the Honda Insight Bowl 47-20. It was close game at half, with the score 24-17 in favor of the Bears. Illinois once lead the game 14-3, but Coach Willard’s boys refused to not get their 8th win of the season. *While Baylor’s passing game was lacking, Jr. RB Bennett refused to end the year on a low note, as he ended the day with 317 yards on 24 carries, and *5 rushing TD’s, setting Baylor’s single game record for rushing yards and TD’s. *It was a nice touch to see the Bears get their 8th win, after what most would consider a disappointing year. We definitely saw that despite their great passing game that OC Willard would much prefer to run the ball. Talking with him after the game, he said that he was excited for the players coming back, and getting back to running the ball more….if the powers to be bring him back for his sophomore year as Baylor’s OC. He does have 2 more years on his current contract. Next up he will focus on finishing the recruiting class he has going.

Tennesee wins the Nokia Sugar Bowl over #7 Stanford 52-48 on a last minute score. This turned out to be my #1 ranked game. EA tried there best to get me, but clean living prevailed.

In the 4th, UT takes a 45-38 lead. Stanford ties the game up, because my defense was getting torched all day long. With two minutes left, I'm awaiting the kickoff and WTF - FUMBLE, recovered by Stanford. Of course they score! Luckily we held them to a FG, but now they were leading 48-45. We had a 1:20 left, so there was a lot of time. The way Neal was running, and with Standofrd in a prevent D, I thought I'd steal some yards on the ground. He gashed them and they wouldn't stop him, out of fear of giving up the pass play. We threw one pass, otherwise, we rushed the ball down the field and punched it in from 3 yards out. That running left only 20 seconds on the clock and there wasn't enough time for a miracle for the tree huggers. The band stayed on the sidleines and The Volunteers went home happy!

Before the game, Raijon Neal collected a lot of hardware. He won the Heisman, the Walter Camp, the Maxwell, and the Doak Walker awards.

We'll see what happens this offseason. Derek Dooley was not loved by the staff, but maybe this streak has saved his job.
