thinking of getting a shooter..I would prefer the the world war 2 theme if theres something good out there. But what are any of you playing that I could easily get used today?...is there alot of shooting in Noir, or is it alot of long winded other tasks? i'm not interested in a GTA type thing, more of a war thing or metal gear solid thing...I already played the most recent metal gear solid with all the females that turned into animals or ghosts or what ever it was LOL, I assume there hasnt been one since?
any titles you want to suggest? I bought Red dead Redemption used, but its too long winded and too free roam for me..I kind of prefer where your in an obvious situation and need to finish that situation with still the freedom to maybe get something extra out of it with the ability to save at sooner points...Red Dead is a bunch of horse riding for nothing LOL...also, I want to maybe have something with a decent online mode that you dont need to pay extra for if you get the game used.......
any suggestions ?

Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 would both be good choices. They both have linear campaigns that last about 6-8 hours, and expansive online modes. Modern Warfare 3 is more geared towards arcade style of play, while BF3 has a much more realistic feel to it. Personally, I prefer BF3, but if you've never played Call of Duty before, you might get enjoyment out of that as well.
If you want something sci-fi, Resistance 3 and Killzone 3 would both be excellent choices as well.

I'm still playing quite a bit of Battlefield 3 with snoop, Eric, JB, and Darius. I'm enjoying it, but probably wouldn't bother playing online if I didn't have a group of friends to get on with.
I am a novice WWII enthusiast (my particular area of interest is The Eastern Front), so I've always preferred WWII titles too. If you're looking for that type of game exclusively, I enjoyed the campaigns in both COD 3, and COD World at War. However, those games are old (as a bonus, they're certainly cheap) so you can forget the online thing with them.

As for RDR, you do realize that there are ways (campsite) that you can "jump" to different areas of the map, right?

I know you said you prefer WWII themed games, but I really enjoyed Bulletstorm and I know you can get that pretty cheap used. Mafia II is a fun 3rd person shooter and even though it looks like it's an open world game it's pretty linear

COD has new games every single year. They just haven't had WWII games in 4 years. Infinity Ward went away from WWII with the Modern Warfare 1/2/3 line, and Treyarch left WWII after World at War by moving up to the Cold War era with Black Ops.

They're all shit.
Battlefield 3 is just a "prettier" version of Battlefield Bad Company 2 (which really wasn't that great)
CoD Modern Warfare 3 is garbage. If I wasn't utterly bored out of my mind of other video games, I wouldn't even be playing it (and the fact that my brother DESPERATELY wanted to play it for some ungodly reason and that I got it for $23 used because of how shitty the game is).
Killzone has sucked from the beginning so I can't imagine 3 is any better. Major letdown as I was very much excited for the storyline of the first one. Complete bust in my mind.
Shooters are garbage now because EVERYTHING is being made more and more like CoD, which is just a shooter for crackheads and dew fiends.

KZ1 wasn't very good, but KZ2 was absolutely amazing both offline and online and is right there with COD4 for the best shooter this generation. KZ3 was a let down because they changed too many things, but KZ2 was awesome. For the record, KZ2 still has a very active community, mainly because that's where the KZ fans went when they realized KZ3 wasn't very good.

Black Ops is especially shitty on PS3. I guess the campaign isn't that bad, but online is terrible.

Having played both MW3 and B3 of your looking to get anything out of the online play then B3 would and should have been the game you wanted. I mean 10 bucks or so for the pass would have probably been worth it for you.

Plus, to me, if $10 to play online with a used EA game is a hardship for someone (not saying that's the case with you ram, but just saying it in general), they shouldn't be buying games, much less fussing about $10 to play online.

BF3 is $40 brand new at Gamestop this week anyway, so no online pass would be needed. It's sure as hell way better than Black Ops, especially online.

paying cash for a used item and not wanting to add to a credit card are 2 different things...I am struggling, but I just left a 3 day stay at a hospital on Tuesday and wanted to amuse myself with something different....heck,the hospital stay made me postpone a job interview that I havent gotten in 2 years...its next tuesday now...
