FAU beats USF! 20-17

The Owls continue their beatdown of instate rivals, lol. The Owls come out and exicute coach Willard's offense almost perfect today. Not only did they win the TOP, Rushing yards, and total yards, But they were also able to keep the USF passing attack contained. Only allowing 215 yards and 1 TD. But the true star for his second game was Owls RB Jones who finished the day with 250 yards on 31 carries and 2 TD's. With a long run of the day at 68 yards. On all the Owls ended the day with 272 yards rushing total, and over 400 yards of total offense. But the true hero was Kicker Brandon Carpenter, who's 28 yard FG as time expired gave the Owls the final lead of the game. The Owls were able to run the final 6:08 of the 4th qtr down, in order to keep the ball away from the Bulls. Coach Willard said he has been very pleased with how his team has exicuted his new offense this year. He said he was going to make some tweaks for their next game, to try and make the offense more explosive, and efficient. Next up the Owls with host the Army Black Knights, and their flexbone triple option offense, as they try and move to 3-0.

Can you play early in the day? I'm free for the morning and will be around through 3pm, but I'll be away at a birthday party all night.

Old friends squared off in a rivalry that stretches back to the beginning of the GBN. The Roadhouse vs. CLW rivalry is similar to a nail's rivalry with a hammer, and has come in the form of Fresno State vs. Stanford, Miami U. vs. Kent State, (you'll noticed I ducked him at Tennessee!) and now Bowling Green vs. Western Kentucky.

WKU was already without their #1 receiver, but no one expected this kind of start. Bowling Green moved the ball with ease for about 40 yards, but they got greedy and the ball hawking former commish snagged the air ball. on WKU's first play, the ball was batted down at the line of scrimmage and grabbed by a different D lineman. First time I've seen that this year. Two plays later, BG scored on a short pass to their TE Alex Bayer.

The Hilltoppers would then lose the ball and their #1 QB on the next possession with a torn MCL. The fumble set up another short field for a score. 14-0 and things weren't looking good for Big Red's Rascals. But when WR Willie McNeal took a jet sweep 73 yards, CLW was making like Jason and rising from the dead.

While CLW's threat never went away, the pressure did. Bowling Green hung up 14 more points at the half for a 28-7 lead. WKU's backup, Brandon Dougherty, was 4-15 for 145 in a dismal day. He did throw for a 61 yard TD and rushed for another, in giving his all, but the 5 turnovers were too much to overcome.

BG got about 280 yards rushing as they eat the clock and controlled the second half. Jonathan Hopgood and Brandon Pettigrew continue to be a dynamic duo in the backfield and are very tough to contain. QB Matt Schillz had 3 INTs, but that's more a result of CLW's good skills. its a different game plan when you play a guy like him, his pressure forces mistakes. Luckily, we caught his team on a very bad day and we're thrilled to have the W.

Next week begins the conference schedule for Bowling Green. First up, Dat U and their Redhawks will visit our rolling hills in Ohio.
