Bowling Green avenges their bowl defeat of last year by knocking off the Cal Bears 28-17. The Bears couldn't mount much offense and BGSU had a lot of success on the ground. It'll be a much different offense this year. We lost three of our top receivers, all who could stretch the field. Now, we'll go back to being a more horizontal spread team and look to run first.
HB John Pettigrew showed great vision and worked his magic cutting through defenders on his way to a 120 yards rushing. He was knocked out of the game in the 3rd quarter with a mild concussion, but should return in time for next week's big grudge match with Cincinnati. Jordan Hopgood was last year's #1 back, filled in admirably as the powerful changeup. He eat up 73, lots of clock, and helped control the Cal pass rush.
The defense bent but broke less, only forcing one TO and getting one sack. Still, it was a very good showing versus a higher rated team. We would rather have the bowl win, but we're happy to start 2013 on the good foot. Ready to bump.

I saw that. That's terrible. He'll fall off faster than enrollment at the Penn State massage camp...

FAU opens with a win!
The Owls come out swinging this season. More like pounding. They beat instate rivals UCF 38-10. But the best part was how they did it. They ran the ball. Over the off season coach Willard installed a new offense, and right now it seems to be working pretty well. Granted it's only week 1. But the Owls racked up over 300 yards on the ground with 299 belonging to HB Jones on 39 carries. He also added 2 TD's. The Owls Qb's went 4-8 for 58 and 1 TD. QB starter Kool, left in the second with an injury, but should be fine by the Owls next game. Even the Owls defense got involved returning an INT for a TD. Next week the Owls will travel to Tampa Bay to take on USF, in their continueing goal of being the best team in Florida.
FAU ready to advance
