Too obvious. That was such a blatant move that I'd say there's practically no way it's the title in the end.

( Not to mention, I think it's really impractical from a design standpoint )

Some game rumors coming out:

- Writer from Arkham Asylum & Arkham Asylum not returning

- Game is rumored to be prequel (to AA & AC) and will center around Batman's first meeting with Joker. Possibly set in 'Silver Age' and may feature Justice League & other characters: Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern.

Just played Arkham City recently and really enjoyed it. Need to go back and play more of the 1st one I believe I rented it briefly but never got too deep into the game. Looks like III is coming in the next year:

With the console rumors swirling, I have to wonder if any game coming 'later this year' means PS3/360, PS4/720, or all of the above. RockSteady not developing is surprising.

It's beginning to sound pretty certain that the next Batman: Arkham game will be centered in the 50s/60s comic universe, which could be pretty unique - but a big change from the dark, gritty style of the first two:

If the latest whispers of the internet are to be believed, a new Rocksteady Studios game by the name of Batman: Arkham Origins will be available for purchase by the end of the year.

One of the most popular franchises of this generation, the Arkham games have had two successful outings on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We’ve learned quite a bit about the Dark Knight and his difficult past through this expansive action games, but according to the French website Gameblog.fr (http://www.gameblog.fr/news/34714-batman-arkham-origins-devoile-a-l-e3-2013-sur-next-gen), this game will explore a Batman from the ’50s or ’60s.

Other members of the illustrious Justice League are expected to make an appearance, with Superman and the Green Lantern mentioned by name in the leak. As of now, these sources will remain unnamed and mysterious, but we’ll know if this was all true by the time E3 rolls around.

A new Batman game has been announced, via the circuitous route of a GameInformer cover. It’s called Batman: Arkham Origins, and is being developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal, who… wait a second, what’s happened to Rocksteady? Does their disappearance have something to do with released image of infamous mercenary Deathstroke? Well, someone had better call the Commissioner. It looks like we’ve got a bat to signal.

“As the title suggests, the game takes place years before both of the previous Arkham titles when a young, unrefined Batman encounters many supervillains for the first time,” write Game Informer. Is he encountering them in Arkham? We don’t actually know, but I’d argue that it would be the more obvious reading of a game called “Arkham Origins”.

The new developers, who were previously in charge of the Arkham City Wii U port, will be using Rocksteady’s custom modified Unreal engine. So at the very least it should look, and hopefully play, like the Arkham series we’ve come to know and punch people with. It’s being headed by Eric Holmes, who was the lead designer on open-world slice-em-up Prototype.

Batman: Arkham Origins is due out October 25th.

More on Arkham Origins from Game Informer (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/04/10/the-world-of-batman-arkham-origins.aspx?PostPageIndex=2). Some excerpts:

In this early stage of the Arkham timeline, the section of the city that will one day become a walled Arkham prison is still connected to the rest of the city. Called Old Gotham, players once again get to explore the area, but will soon realize that it is dramatically different from how it appeared in Arkham City. Old Gotham is dominated by lower buildings and slums, but many areas will seem entirely new. For instance, Jezebel Plaza, recognizable for its retrofit of prison bars, containment facilities, and gang hideouts in Arkham City, is still a premier shopping district dominated by a massive Christmas tree. Elsewhere, the great flood that drowned so many buildings has not yet occurred, and Batman has the opportunity to explore the dock areas that still exist. Docked just outside of the city limits, players find The Final Offer. This massive ship is the headquarters for the Penguin and his minions, as they illicitly engage in an arms trade with the many parties in Gotham City who are interested in their wares. The off-land HQ provides a no-man’s land of laws, and they ply their trade without interference from the police. Batman isn’t so careful of jurisdictions, and players can expect extended gameplay sequences aboard the hulking ship. Inside, visitors find a full casino and theater in a large passenger section, as well as less public arms storage decks.

While the landmass that will become Arkham City is painted in a new light, it represents less than half of the overall outdoor city area players explore in Arkham Origins. Cross the bridge from Old Gotham, and Batman enters New Gotham. This island of towering skyscrapers, mazes of pipes, and soaring catwalks is an entirely new gameplay space. New Gotham offers dramatically expanded opportunities for gliding navigation, as you climb to the high rooftops and float down through the snowy streets. Though the buildings are high and the streets might be wider, WB Montreal is focused on trying to make New Gotham just as dense with gameplay as any area players encountered in Arkham City. “There are a lot more opportunities to position enemies above and below you because there’s more than one level,” says senior producer Ben Mattes. “In Old Gotham we’ve got the ground and we’ve got rooftops. Now we’ve got ground, we’ve got medium rooftops, we’ve got tall rooftops. So it expands the playground along the vertical axis. We’re not interested in making a big sprawling city where you run for blocks before you find someone to fight. We want to maintain that density where around every corner over every rooftop there’s always something interesting both visually and gameplay-wise.”

Black Mask will be the main villian in Arkham Origins (http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/50172/black-mask-revealed-as-the-main-villain-in-batman-arkham-origins)

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/s480x480/9944_10151439263619285_1550784138_n.jpg

“Black Mask is new money. He’s rich. He’s very, very powerful. He’s made it,” creative director Eric Holmes told Game Informer. “He’s known for being brutal and sadistic. And particularly at this point in the Arkham franchise he has enormous resources. He is the number one gang leader in Gotham. And has easily the most power in the city. It’s not something people bring a lot of baggage to when you see the Black Mask, so we have to do the work to make him scary."

And as for how Black Mask will be portrayed in Arkham Origins, WBG Montreal gave some insight while teasing the broader story arc of the game in the interview:

“The sadistic nature of Black Mask is a fun thing for us to play with – the lengths to which he’s willing to go to get what he wants,” stated senior producer Ben Mattes while narrative director Dooma Wendschuh put the conflict with Black Mask in context by saying that, “It’s basically Batman’s worst nightmare. We have eight of the best assassins in the world who’ve come together to Gotham City for one night, Christmas Eve of all nights, to kill the Bat.”

Assets and engine only go so far. If the story sucks and the game play is uninspiring, it'll still be a disappointing game regardless of how good or authentic it looks. Look at Killzone 3. One of the most gorgeous games to ever grace a console, absolutely amazing atmosphere, and some of the most boring game play the world has ever seen.

I definitely want this to be good, but Rocksteady really had something going. They nailed both AA and Arkham City. Fingers crossed it turns out well.

Batman: Arkham Origins Will Have Multiplayer, Sources Say (http://kotaku.com/batman-arkham-origins-will-have-multiplayer-sources-s-478365060)

The newest Batman game will have a multiplayer mode, we've heard from two independent sources.

Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel announced earlier this month, will be the third game in the Arkham series, and the first to have any sort of multiplayer, according to our sources. We've also heard details about at least one multiplayer mode from a tipster, although we haven't been able to confirm them.

In early March, before Origins rumors started swirling, we heard from a tipster who claimed to have details about the Dark Knight's newest game. The game would be called "Batman Origins," he claimed, and the box cover would have a snowy, Christmas-themed background. We couldn't verify any of the information he gave us, so we sat on it.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, Game Informer revealed their cover for the April issue of their magazine. It's Batman: Arkham Origins, and the cover is indeed full of snow. The game is set during Christmas Eve.

Our tipster had also shared some details about multiplayer in Arkham Origins, so we reached out to a number of industry sources for confirmation. Although we were unable to corroborate the specifics, we did confirm with a second source that the game will indeed have multiplayer. (Warner Bros. declined to comment for this story.)

As for the details, according to our tipster: during at least one section of multiplayer, you play as a member of Joker or Bane's gang while trying to take down Batman and Robin. The villains involved—who may be playable and customizable—include Killer Croc, Deadshot, Firefly, Black Mask, Deathstroke, and "some kind of Electroman character," our tipster said. (Maybe Electrocutioner?)

That's all unconfirmed, but we feel comfortable sharing it, since our tipster was spot-on about the name and cover. This could be one multiplayer mode, or it could be the only one. We don't know. We'll find out more this fall.

Warner Bros. has shown interest in Batman-themed multiplayer before: Gotham City Impostors, a downloadable game that came out last year for PC and consoles, was a multiplayer shooter where players dressed up as fake Batmans and Jokers to duel online. This is the first Arkham game developed by a new studio: WB Montreal will develop Origins, taking the bat-mantle from the London-based Rocksteady Studios.

Batman: Arkham Origins is out October 25 for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.

(Above image, which is not, as far as we know, from the game's multiplayer mode, via Game Informer.)

Some DLC info:

Batman: Arkham Origins' Initiation DLC will explore Bruce Wayne's journey to be a ninja before he became a bat, producer Guillaume Voghel told Eurogamer at this week's Eurogamer Expo.

Initiation will follow Bruce's efforts to prove himself to Kirigi, the ninja that taught ninjitsu to both Bruce and his enemy Ra's al Ghul's League of Assassins. Initiation will be the first event within the Arkham series to use a setting outside of Gotham.

Arkham Origins will also feature I Am The Night, a difficulty mode that unlocks after players complete New Game+. I Am The Night will not allow saves and limits Batman to just one life. Considering Voghel said that Arkham Origins' "main narrative arc and side missions last about 12 hours," it sounds like players will need to conduct a crime-fighting marathon to overcome I Am The Night.

Courtesy: Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/09/29/batman-arkham-origins-initiation-dlc-i-am-the-night-mode-detai/)

The Initiation DLC sounds pretty cool, however I don't remember the main Arkham Asylum or City arc & side missions being so short. weren't they around 20 or so hours? Though, if they removed half of the Riddler trophies & puzzles, that would cut down on time significantly.

GameSpot Review: 6 (http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/batman-arkham-origins-review/1900-6415506/)

Batman: Arkham Origins is a deeply predictable game. It gives you exactly what you'd expect in another Arkham game, without doing anything to push the series forward. In the absence of new elements, the tried-and-true free-flow combat and predator mechanics feel routine rather than inspired. Origins is worth experiencing for the way it sets the stage for the events of the other Arkham games, but it also resides squarely in their shadows.

IGN Review: 7.8 (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/25/batman-arkham-origins-review)

Batman games are like pizza: even when they’re not very good, they’re still pretty good. Next to Arkham City, Arkham Origins is a bit of a disappointment in its lack of new ideas and use of win buttons, making it the least interesting of the trilogy. But as excuses to dive back into the excellent free-flowing combat and predator takedowns go, this story isn’t bad.

Metacritic currently at 79 (360) and 75 (PS3) (http://www.metacritic.com/search/all/batman+arkham+origins/results).

Warner Bros. has released an update for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of Batman: Arkham Origins adding the new competitive "Hunter, Hunted" mode to the game's online multiplayer component.

"Hunter, Hunted" is a 3v3v1 mode that throws three Bane thugs, three Joker henchmen, and one very pissed-off Batman into the same map for a chaotic team-based battle to the death. There are no respawns in this mode, making thugs especially fragile and keeping the stakes high throughout.

"Hunter, Hunted" is available as part of a free update, and follows up on the recent launch of Arkham Origins' Initiation DLC. The game's upcoming "Narrative DLC" pack will complete Arkham Origins' planned Season Pass content next year.
