I know they really push Soccer around here, my boy is 3 and keeps getting notices about it. It's supposedly for learning teamwork and just overall interacting with other kids. I'd like to wait until 9 or 10 to start him in any sports.I'd encourage you to consider otherwise. While I'm not by any means the picture of athleticism (especially now), my best (and most fun) years of sports were before grade 3. I started in T-Ball at 5 or 6, and had a 28 point game in basketball at 8. It was those experiences that shaped who I later became and who I am today, partially because (even though I struggled) I continued to play team sports until I graduated high school.

Similar to Snoop's experience, my dad was instrumental in teaching me, both as a coach and as, well, my father. He coached many of my youth teams, and continued to teach me and practice with me as I got older (and his time constraints took him away from coaching our teams). I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything, in hindsight.

I can totally understand not wanting to start him at 3 ... but certainly consider it in the near future.

I take my kids to the ball fields often near our house. My daughter is 3 and knows the basics. The only problem is that she has that women mentality and gets super pissed when she misses a ball. To the point where she looks like she is going to rip my son's head off and he had nothing to do with it. She took one of the chest last night and Mason told her good job T, to which she replied "I don't want to hear it anymore MASON" :D:D:D

I guess I just look at my experiences and then I compare to what is happening today. I started Little League when I was 7 or 8 and have played baseball all the way past High School and College. Still play slow pitch softball(in some pretty competitive leagues), starting playing basketball when I was in 6th grade and have played consistently up to this day(it has tailed a little with 2 kids).

My kids can do whatever they want as I'm not going to force them into what I did. But I also see the extremes that it has gone to these days and I still want them to have a childhood. Baseball practices have started earlier and seasons are going later, tournaments upon tournaments. When I played we only had one or two All Star teams, now it seems that every kid is making an All Star team and playing tournaments after the season. I have friends that leave work pick their kids up at daycare or after school care and are off to the Ball Field almost every night, hitting McDonalds to get a quick dinner. To me at the age of 5,6 or 7 that's not what I want for them.

This is the story one of the Toledo news channels have up.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Seven IHOP locations were raided in the Toledo area Tuesday morning. The franchise locations are all owned by the same private company, an IHOP spokesperson confirms.

Locations that have been confirmed include:

-Talmadge Road in west Toledo

-Fremont-Pike location in Perrysburg

-Airport Highway

-Central Avenue

Those locations have officers and agents on scene in both marked and unmarked vehicles.

Homeland Security and the FBI are involved in a joint investigation with the Toledo Police Department assisting. They have only revealed so far that it is a closed investigation.

Homeland Security confirms search warrants were issued at 6 a.m. for various IHOP locations.

We have learned they are investigating terrorist accusations including money laundering as well possible illegal workers at many locations across the country right now. It is not yet known if all the locations nationally are IHOP restaurants.

We'll post more details as they come in.

First there were the iHOP raids. Then there was the car bomb in Monroe, Michigan. Now between Wednesday and yesterday, there have been attacks on three fire stations, two with gunfire at the stations, and one with a makeshift explosive device placed in front of it.


TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Three separate violent incidents are being investigated at different area fire stations: Station 18 on Lewis, Station 6 on Starr, and Station 9 on South.

The latest incident happened Thursday outside Fire Station 18 on Lewis Avenue. WTOL 11 has been told a makeshift exploding device was placed in front of one of the bay doors, involving a bag of charcoal and a propane tank.

Firefighters found the device and called the police bomb squad to remove it from harm's way.

That comes less than a day after two separate shooting incidents yesterday afternoon.

One was at Station 6 along Starr, where five shots were fired. We've been told two of the bullets made it inside the station, with one of the bullets striking a fire truck. The other bullet lodged in a wall, next to where a firefighter usually sits.

The other shooting was outside Station 9 on South, where several shots were fired as well.

Toledo Safety Director Shirley Green says investigators are still in the process of gathering information as well as processing information, so it's too early to determine if any or all three of these incidents are related in some way.

That city has really gone to hell in the last couple of years. It's something else, day after day. I think it was yesterday or the day before, some kid got robbed at gunpoint, in the middle of a basketball court, in the middle of inside a YMCA.

Seems about every time I look at the paper, someone new has been murdered or something else has happened. Now firefighters are being shot at, people are stealing police cruisers (someone stole a police cruiser a few weeks back while officers were on the scene of an incident at a bar), makeshift bombs are being found around the city (or in the case of Monroe, Michigan, being set off). Damn I need to get the hell out of this part of the state, if not the entire state altogether.

So about midway through my work day today, I hit a wall. I just felt so tired and sluggish. I wondered how the hell I was going to make it through the rest of my shift, or if I even wanted to. So the wife has been pissed since she left me at the reception (to which I had like i mentioned someone to drive me home). I told her, hey atleast you won't be reading about what happens to me in the paper and I'll be home later. Man Allegedly Beat Woman with Frozen Armadillo

DALLAS - A man used a frozen armadillo to attack a 57-year old Pleasant Grove woman, Dallas police said.

The incident happened on Sept. 29 in an apartment complex parking lot.

According to investigators, the altercation occurred when the suspect was selling the carcass to the victim, who planned to eat the animal.

The pair apparently began arguing over the price of the item when the man twice threw the armadillo at the woman.

The animal first struck the woman in the leg and then in her chest.

She was reportedly bruised by the attack.

Detectives have been unable to find the man, who could face assault charges.

Exotic Animals Escape Muskingum County Animal Farm

UPDATE FROM MUSKINGUM CO SHERIFF MATT LUTZ:

Terry Thompson, the owner of the land and animals, is dead on the scene outside the home. Will not elaborate. Mr Thompson was recently released from prison for an unknown crime.

The animals cages were found to be unsecured. A former employee of the farm is on scene assisting deputies.

Animals kept at the facility include Lions, Tigers, Bears, Wolves, Giraffes, and Camels. Unknown how many animals are still out, but there are still thought to be several dangerous animals on the loose, creating a public safety threat. People are advised to stay inside.

At this point Bears and Wolves have been fatally shot. Bears and Wolves have also been spotted from Interstate 70. Deputies are currently patrolling the area in pickup trucks, armed with shotguns. They are holding a 5 to 7 mile radius perimiter.

Columbus Zoo and The Wilds are on scene to assist with the animals. A helicopter with infared equipment is currently en route to the scene.

Zanesville Mayor: Owner of exotic animals set them loose

ZANESVILLE, OH (AP) - Police say the owner of an Ohio exotic-animal farm where dozens of animals escaped has been found dead.

According to the CNN website, Zanesville Mayor Howard Zwelling said the information he received is that the owner, Terry Thompson, set the animals loose and then shot himself.

WBNS-TV in Columbus reports the body of Thompson was found Tuesday outside his home on the farm property. Police say the fences had been left unsecured at the Muskingum County Animal Farm in Zanesville.

More than 30 animals have been found and shot. As of 10 a.m., they are still looking for tigers and wolves.

Staffers from the Columbus Zoo are on the scene hoping to tranquilize and capture the animals. Wildlife expert Jack Hanna is also on site. he works for the Columbus Zoo.

Sheriff Matt Lutz says people should stay indoors and he might ask for local schools to close Wednesday.

Well, today started good. Now it's gone to shit. Why can't good days ever stay good? Had a mandatory staff meeting at 1:30 this afternoon, only to find out that one of our colleagues had been let go by Clear Channel as part of their current round of job cuts that are underway. This is the second time in the past 2 or 3 years someone from our market has been given the boot by Clear Channel during one of their mass, nation-wide job cutting sprees. So much for what started as a good day. Now I just want to go find a bar and drink for the rest of today.
