Regardless of whatever the helmet looks like, that is the ugliest fucking uniform I have ever seen (even worse than Maryland's or anything Oregon has ever come out with), and whoever designed that pile of shit needs to be beaten with a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire.

sad day at work today, as one of my former coworkers lost her battle with cancer. left behind two kids (both less than 10 years old), a husband, and a bunch of friends and family. she was certainly a fighter though; she lived 6 months longer than what the doctors initially said she would. Ok, it's time for a contest. As some of you may have heard, Touchdown Jesus, a large Jesus statue on the side of I-75 in SW Ohio burned down back in 2010 after being smote by lightning.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d9/King_of_Kings_Statue.jpg

The church responsible for the non-Notre Dame version of Touchdown Jesus elected to rebuild the statue, but differently posed, and with a full body. So what names do y'all have for the new Jesus?

http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx305/SmoothPancakes/47179_10151205121421830_797575741_n_zpse9ed6e9c.jp g

A couple name suggestions I've seen others mention on Facebook include:

- $5 Footlong Jesus
- Fourth and Short Jesus
- "I caught a fish this big" Jesus
- "Come at me bro" Jesus
- "Upon Further Review, the Previous Play Has Been Overturned. 4th and Goal" Jesus

Anybody ever use Walmart's Site to Store shipping option? I used it for my TV because it was free and it's a 5 minute drive over to Walmart on the north side of town, as opposed to paying $25-$30 in shipping to have it sent to my door. While it's still not technically supposed to arrive until Friday at the earliest estimation date, it's been sitting in Walmart's Delivery Facility in Coldwater, Michigan since 9am Monday morning.

An hour and a half away and it's been sitting there for three days without any movement whatsoever. Christ, I could have made the three hour round trip drive up to Coldwater and picked it up myself at this rate. I'm really hoping since it flew through Walmart's Sorting facility and got to their Delivery facility so close from me up in Michigan in a mere two days since I placed the order, that it would get here early, ahead of the estimated dates of arrival. I was hoping maybe it would move last night and am still hoping it will move today or tonight and get in town by tomorrow. If it doesn't show up until sometime on Friday, I'm shit out of luck on picking it up until Monday at the earliest and have to leave it sitting there the entire weekend as I won't be able to go pick it up before next week.

I bought a lawn mower there at the beginning of summer. I used it apox. 5 times and it stopped running.
I looked at my recipe and it was 10 days past being able to return it.
After talking to the store manager,
They let me bring it back and sent it in to be fixed for free. Which was nice of them, but it took 6 weeks to get it back.
I don't think Wal-Mart gets in a hurry at all.

Alright, looks like I gonna get lucky and get it earlier than was estimated after all. The tracking page for my order just updated when I refreshed it. Though it took 1-2 hours to actually update on the website, my TV left Coldwater at 12:19pm local time in transit to store. So I very well could have the TV home tonight, as I'm able to pick it up as late as 10pm, it just left Coldwater just shortly after noon, and it's only an hour and a half drive from Coldwater to here.

Only thing that could cause delay is if it's on a dedicated shipment truck coming solely to here, or if it's on a truck for stuff like Site to Store shipments or something that is going to be making stops at other Walmart stores around NE Indiana and NW Ohio. I have no clue how Walmart does their shipping, if their stuff, whether it's restocking merchandise or Site to Store shipments, is put on dedicated semis to each individual store, or if they combine shipments to multiple stores on one truck. I guess I'll find out. Since I'm not supposed to expect an email or text message that it's ready to pick up until around 4 hours after it arrives (according to their site and the emails I have already received), I should know by 8pm or so tonight, accounting for the 4 hour delay in notification and giving the truck a 4 hour period to arrive depending on how Walmart ships their stuff to the stores.

Having tackled the UFC and WWE, video game developer Yuke's has moved on to another sport: lingerie football.

The studio says it has snagged the rights to create titles based on the Lingerie Football League.

Yuke's did not provide details on platforms, release date or a potential publisher. The studio's previous titles based on UFC and WWE were published by THQ.

I would not be surprised to see a full retail game, sold at a $29.99 or $39.99 margin. Just happy to know that the possibility o such a game does exist.

Well, TV finally arrived today. Walmart's Site to Store shipping is slow as hell regardless.

It shipped from Bentonville, Arkansas to Coldwater, Michigan in, at most, 3 days (ordered the TV Friday morning around 10am, it arrived in Michigan at 9am Monday). It then sat in Michigan from Monday until noon on Wednesday before it finally left on a truck, and then who the hell knows where it was or went from Wednesday afternoon until today, as it never arrived (or at least showed up in the system and was available for pickup at the Walmart here in town) until 5:30 this morning. 42 hours for it to make the 70 mile, 1 1/2 hour trip from Coldwater, Michigan to here and be scanned into the system at the local store.

Talk about ridiculously slow. Next time I order something like a TV from Walmart's website, screw it, I'll just pay the extra $25-$30 and have them ship it directly to my door.

Now that I got home with the TV and have it set up, hooked up and good to go, time to try and squeeze out 4-5 hours of sleep before 16 straight hours of work. Luckily fell asleep around 2am last night and woke up at 5am, so was able to at least get 3 hours overnight. Was about to go back to sleep at 8:30 after a movie on TV was over, but updated the Walmart tracking site for the hell of it and saw the TV was ready to pick up, so that extended my morning by 3 1/2 hours.

I get where you're at Smooth but the issue is that since you're getting it free, they don't want to make it easier/better/more-convenient than paying the shipping fee. I've seen Amazon do the same thing to me with their super-saver free shipping. A DVD will take 7-8 business days to get to me and as I check it, it will sit in one location for multiple days in a row. Just a matter of what's more important, timing or money.

Yeah, I know, you get what you pay for. :D

It was nice having it shipped free to the store and then just simply having to drive out and pick it up, but it was frustrating knowing it was so close by for an entire week and was taking forever to arrive. I also got very lucky, because after this morning, it would have had to be left sitting at the store until Monday before I could make it out there to pick it up. 10am this morning was the latest I could do to go out and pick it up before next week. That's why it was also frustrating for me this week watching it sit, because if it wasn't in town by first thing this morning, even though it would end up being in town all weekend long, it was going to be at least another 3 or 4 days before I would actually be able to go get it.

Luckily I updated their tracking site at 8:30, and was out there waiting for their Layaway/Site to Store person to come on shift right at 9 so I could pick it up and get it home and not have to worry about it anymore.

Yeah. They're "free" shipping is bullshit. That's why, if I can help it, I buy it from Newegg. Even if it's free shipping, I still get it by day 3, at the most. It helps that their distribution center is normally sending it from New Jersey though.

Yeah... Newegg is awesome. With free shipping, shipped from Memphis (about 75 miles away), I get it overnight. At worst (shipped from a different warehouse), I get it in 3 days.

So, check this out, apparently Anubis (Egyptian god that ushered people into the afterlife) is a wolfheaded god instead of a jackalheaded god. Geologists have figured out that the animal in Egypt that the god is based off of had to be a wolf instead of a jackal because jackals were no where close to Egypt during that time period.

Florida Passes Plan For Racially-Based Academic Goals

On Tuesday, the board passed a revised strategic plan that says that by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level. For math, the goals are 92 percent of Asian kids to be proficient, whites at 86 percent, Hispanics at 80 percent and blacks at 74 percent. It also measures by other groupings, such as poverty and disabilities, reported the Palm Beach Post.

Terri Graham, Mother, Breastfeeds Dog To 'Feel Complete'

It’s no secret people love their dogs, but Terri Graham, mother of two, is taking that to a whole other level by playing wet nurse to her 9-year-old daughter’s pug, named Spider.

Graham has let Spider breastfeed for the past two years, since the pug licked the top of a baby bottle and seemed to like it. Graham, instead of immediately sterilizing the bottle and scolding the dog, apparently decided to give Spider a pull at the source.

Graham explained that she couldn't breastfeed her children, but "having Spider suckle on my boob means I finally feel complete and a better mother."

The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill has removed the word “freshman” from official university documents, citing as their reason an attempt to adopt more “gender inclusive language.”

We are “committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community,” reads a statement administrators sent to Campus Reform on Monday.

“Consistent with that commitment, gender inclusive terms (chair; first year student; upper-level student, etc.) should be used on University Documents, websites and policies,” it continues.

What are they saying for you guys Jeff? It sounds like anything south of Jersey will be fine. North of Jersey, well, this thing could make The Perfect Storm and the Storm of the Century look like popcorn farts depending on how the weather models trend over the next 2-3 days.

is this the storm that turns everyone to zombies?

Nah, that storm is coming in two months. This storm is just going to fuck up the northeast pretty efficiently.

What are they saying for you guys Jeff?I'd actually heard nothing about it until you mentioned it. I'd heard that Sandy is expecting to come up the coastline, but didn't know it was being predicted to turn landward. That reaction was just in general to what I'm sure will be the media over the next week or so.

Oh, you can bet on it. They're already predicting something worse than the Perfect Storm in 1991 and the Storm of the Century in 1993.

This thing is supposed to come up the coast, and predicted to turn towards land around the Northeast next week, colliding with a powerful low that is currently making it's way across Canada and will head through the Great Lakes and Northeast this weekend and next week.

The Perfect Storm was 972 mb and the pressure on the "Storm Of The Century" was 960 mb. Some of the models are predicting this storm to be even more powerful, with pressure clear down to low 930s mb, the equivalent of a strong category 3 hurricane. So you can guarantee the media will be going into full on panic mode. They're probably already preparing their "scary" graphics and sound effects/music.

I remember the "Storm of the Century". Dropped like 15 inches of snow. Most Charleston had seen in 20 years or so.

Wasn't the "Perfect Storm" some crazy windy thing in '91? I think I remember that one because it nearly flipped my dad's truck over in downtown Charleston.

Why do I let myself get drug back into "talking" about politics? It's like shooting myself in the face with a shotgun then pouring salt in the wound. It's a dumb thing to do and pointless all at the same time. I have my beliefs on how things should work; you have yours. We both completely disagree on how things should work (I think you're nuts, you think I'm nuts), so what's the point? There isn't one, that's the answer. It's just flame goading. There's really no other reason.

Yeah, they can't seem to decide on a name. I've seen different meteorologists on TV and online calling it "Superstorm", "Mega-Storm" and now "Frankenstorm". They better get their shit in order, they only have one or two days to decide on the name, graphics and sounds before they go into 100% panic mode and start scaring the shit out of the public.

i dont....but i was only 6. :DI was nine during Superstorm, and we had my two-year cousin in town, at our beach-front house (only house, not "we're rich!" beach house), when we lost power for a few days, maybe a week.

And, since it's the beach, the house had none of that "insulation" stuff. For the beach, it got ridiculously cold.

FWIW, Smooth, I say Superstorm because that's what The Weather Channel called it. I even remember the graphics :D

Thanks to a 12 hour kickoff marathon for one of our campaigns yesterday, HS football that kept me at work until 11:30 last night, leaving for my morning show gig at 2am, and not sleeping very well Thursday night, I managed about a grand total of 7 hours of sleep over a 52 hour period since Thursday morning. I got home this morning at 10am, was long gone and dead the world by 10:30am. I wake up 5 goddamn hours later.

well, youve been a bitch to it with you sleeping and working pattern. Whether you feel it or not you're stressing it out and it will bite you if you dont back off

Well, there's not much I can do about it. I work when I'm told to work, especially since we're down to a bare bones minimum staff in town after two rounds of layoffs by Clear Channel over the past two years. I was needed for the kickoff marathon from 6am to 6pm, and I had no choice but to run studio for HS football from 6pm to 11:30pm since there are only two of us to do, and we both have games.

And I had no choice but get up at 2am and go and do my morning show until 9am because I don't have a backup or fill in person. The guy who used to do the Saturday morning show before me is no longer working with the company, and no one has ever been trained to fill in, so I am in studio every single Saturday morning (including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day over the past two years) as there is no one to fill in. I have had 4 Saturdays off since May 2010, solely because I was too sick to actually work my show those days, and that caused issues because one of our normal weekday guys (either the guy who does the 5-9am show during the week, or the guy who does that 9am-2pm show during the week) have to come in on overtime and do my show.

I wouldn't sit here going 50+ hours on a handful of hours of sleep or going 48 hours straight with no sleep or whatever other crazy periods of little to no sleep I go on if it wasn't for work. But if I want to keep my job, or at least get as many hours per week and get as many hours paid out on my timecard and paychecks as I can, hey, you do what you gotta do.

And I do it. Last year, I got to work one morning at 6:45am for a remote that I was running the studio for, I was already feeling sick and worn down. Not even a minute after walking into the building, I was running to the back of the building to the bathroom and spent 5 minutes puking my guts up. But, because we had remotes on both morning shows that morning, the only guy who could have filled in for me was running the studio on the other station at the same time as me. So after puking my guts up and feeling like complete shit, sucked it up and ran the studio from 7-10am despite feeling like a case of living death.

Again, gotta do what you gotta do. 'Tis the case when you try to squeeze 150 or so 2-3 hour live broadcasts between two stations/campaigns into a 6 week period.

Hell yeah. They refuse to leave their posts in bad weather, considering it an honor to stand their watch in bad weather.

From the Old Guard website (https://tombguard.org/society/faq/):

What is it like to guard in bad weather?

The guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (we call ourselves "Sentinels") are completely dedicated to their duty of guarding the Tomb. Because of that dedication, the weather does not bother them. In fact, they consider it an honor to stand their watch (we call it "walking the mat"), regardless of the weather. It gets cold, it gets hot - but the Sentinels never budge. And they never allow any feeling of cold or heat to be seen by anyone.

Do you guard in a blizzard or a bad thunderstorm?

YES, BUT the accomplishment of the mission and welfare of the Soldier is never put at risk. The Tomb Guards have contingencies that are ready to be executed IF the weather conditions EVER place the Soldiers at risk of injury or death – such as lightning, high winds, etc. This ensures that Sentinels can maintain the Tomb Guard responsibilities while ensuring soldier safety. It is the responsibility of the Chain of Command from the Sergeant of the Guard to the Regimental Commander to ensure mission accomplishment and soldier welfare at all times.

It was erroneously reported that during Hurricane Isabel, the Sentinels were ordered to abandon their posts for shelter and that they refused. No such order was ever given. All proper precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the Sentinels while accomplishing their mission. Risk assessments are constantly conducted by the Chain of Command during changing conditions to ensure that soldier welfare is maintained during mission accomplishment.

While I readily agree with Einstein that technology has surpassed human interaction, I don't think it's our technology ... or, rather, the fact that we're using it instead of direct interaction ... that is to blame for our upcoming generation of idiots. The ease of information seems to have replaced the want to learn. The current generation, myself included, is more interested in watching the latest drivel on TV than read a book, learn about history, or learn a new technique for something. Technology can be almost just as interactive as human interaction ... the problem is in the choices (e.g. the guy who's choosing to look at his phone rather than watch the Michigan game), not the medium.

The following article, posted within a spoiler just so people have to make a conscious effort to click it, has the subject of politics. More specifically, the Romney campaign. However, the article is not about politics. It is about our reliance on technology, especially at the enterprise level, and how wrong that technology can go. As a tester, there are many things in the article that just made me shake my head.

Whether or not you think the information in the article is responsible for the outcome Tuesday is, in my opinion, up to you. Based on the reaction to political discussions here as of late, it's probably best if we don't talk about that aspect of the article here. So, let's discuss the "IT fail" aspect, mmkay?

On another note, CLW, would you like to create a "Lawyer Fail" thread? :D :fp:

Ohio attorney creates fake child porn for case, now must pay $300,000 (http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/11/ohio-attorney-creates-fake-child-porn-for-case-now-must-pay-300000)

Yet again, software developers not thinking ahead leads to consequences in an attempt to put the software out there FAR before it was ready. You would have thought one of people working on it or higher up from them would be smart enough to say, "Maybe we should actually test this more than just a serious of automated runs." and the fact that they had one server to handle 3,000+, possibly simultaneous, accesses is the biggest downfall of them all.

:smh:

Well, just a general statement about the article, but just to even entertain the thought that a web app that was fucked up from the start cost Romney the election is ridiculous, but that's all I'm gonna say on that.

As for the article, the first thing that caught me eyes was:

and it would be used to push out more calls throughout the day to pro-Romney voters who hadn't yet shown up at the polls.

That would piss me off to no end. Regardless of whether I was pro-Romney or pro-Obama, the non-fucking-stop political ads on TV (just about every other goddamn commercial during breaks on TV), getting campaign fliers/propaganda in the mail every single day (at one point we got the exact same damn Romney flier in the mail every day for two weeks straight, which is also ridiculous), and then to be sitting there getting phone calls from one of the campaigns during Election day solely because I had not yet gone out and voted, yeah, that's bullshit I really want to deal with. I'll go out and vote at whatever time I feel like, just because I haven't voted by noon or 3pm or whenever, doesn't mean I want to be harassed via phone from one of the campaigns because I have yet to vote.

The rest of it? Talk about a massive fail. Someone got their ass fired.

:D Neither am I trying to or intending to, I was just making a general observation that a web app not working did not lose the election for Romney, as the article (and the quotes of some of the people) somewhat hints of that at various points during it. That was one of the first things that I started to feel like the article might be leaning towards as I got through the first 2 or 3 paragraphs. Whether it's a presidential campaign, Senate, House of Representatives, state level, even damn mayor or city council or whatever on the local level, if someone even tries to claim that technology or a technological failure cost them a campaign, they had much bigger problems and the campaign very may have been doomed before that technology failure.
