This is my prize recruit of the class. He is ranked 3rd overall and looks like a BEAST. I believe he is going to be an all american DE but with ATH I can never be too sure. What do you guys think? Have you ever recruited a guy like this? If we continue to play this game long enough he should make a run at all the sack records and even a heisman run if he turns out to be as good as I think he can be. I don't think I will be able to red-shirt him so I look to see him start next year.

I could easily see him at either DE or LB. Will depend on where his coverage skills are and where his move skills are.

I'd put him at MLB. He'd be a beast from day one at the MLB spot.

Hmmm, I have a TON of LBs right now, its the one position for whatever reason that I can get guys with almost no effort. The DE position though was a problem for me. I landed a couple of studs early but they BOTH left after their 3rd year as (RS)SO and kind of left me screwed. I also run a base 4-2-5 so as irony would have it, the position I am deepest in is also the position I use the LEAST! LOL
gsschwendt - he has no coverage skills to speak of, I believe D- on all bottom things so I didn't cut and paste that.

As I posted in my Dynasty thread, I am going to lose Breyer who is unbelievable this year. I am really hoping this guy can fill his shoes FAST because I have no one waiting on the bench who has attributes to get after the QB.

Good, I just checked, he is a D- at both. I believe this dude is a DE all the way. Hopefully he can grab a few sacks early in the year and build momentum. I am guessing by his year 2 he will be in BEAST mode! Never thought I would recruit a DE from the ATH position. I tried to land 2 other 5-star DEs and struck out on both! But fortunately I think this guy is as good if not better then both of them.

In my Custom Multiple D, I would move him around alot and use formation subs to have him impact the game. It really counts on what his coverage is, which will tell me where to move him at. If his coverage is around 75, I would move him around both DEs spots and all LBs spots. He has the speed to dominate at the DE spot, enough speed to blitz, and Enough speed to cover.
You cant overuse him with his stamina being C+.
I usually dont sign ATH, unless either they have a definitive position or have the ratings where I can move them around.

I actually didn't give this guy a lot of thought when I recruited him. He is the #3 player in the country and had me at #1 I believe so I felt compelled to recruit him. It wasn't until later when I struck out with both my DE recruits that I started to panic that I looked closer at this guy and figured he might be my DE that I need. I just have a feeling that he is going to be really good. Only limiting factor will be how long will we continue to play this dynasty with the end of the real season coming and our teams being pretty stacked to our systems and thus we don't have much problem on either side of the ball. Since I run a 4-2-5 I recruit safeties like a mad-man and RS them. I have found that now with my superior safety play my team is too good for the CPU period! Sure I might struggle for a half but at some point the CPU QB will mess up and then BAM, I throw up scores FAST like LSU does in real life this year.

Since he has low coverage, he is DE all the way. But, I would still try to move him to both DE spots to get him in spots to succeed.

I am in a Dynasty as a DC. I ran alot of 4-2-5. Saftey play is crucial. As for LBs, I believe they have to be good in open space. I dont know whether it was because I was a Ball State, but I had alot of runs against me in that set.

I run the 4-2-5 LB blitz play a LOT!!!! So they basically help to free up the DE's. I do run some cover 1 as well on first down but the majority of the time I am bringing heat with 6 and have the other 5 min man defense. Ideally I want all my DBs at 6-2+ but that is hard to do. I currently have a 6-4 SS and he is a BEAST.
For FS I look at speed, tackling, play recognition. Since I am in man most of the time he is locked with a RB or TE but seldom defending the pass. It is imperative that this guy doesn't miss tackles though!
For SS I am looking at size, man cov, tackling, play recogniztion, speed. This is the hardest and most crucial position on my D. As I have upgraded at SS I have found my D to become DOMINATE as the CPU can no longer throw to slot WRs like they use to.
For CB I like size, then man coverage, then speed. I believe size far out weighs speed this year.

That is similar to how I recruit DBs.
CB is the exact same
FS for me is COV skills and size. I usually keep him in Deep Zone and bailing out to the sideline.
SS for me is Tackling, Hit Power, Size, Zone, and Speed. I usually bring him down in the box alot, especially in the 1-5-5. He rarely covers WRs/TEs.
Even though I only ran it for 2 games, I really like the 2-4-5 set. It puts more speed in the Front 7. I usually sub the DEs for DTs to clog up the middle. Unless my starting OLBs are good, I sub in faster LBs for the OLB spot. 2-4-5 is basically like the 3-4, but 2 DL(both DEs) and a extra DB. For 2-4-5, I think it really helps having a fast LB at the #2 MLB spot.

I'd put him at MLB. He'd be a beast from day one at the MLB spot.
He doesn't have the agility to be good at linebacker, he'd be a liability in pass coverage and mis-direction runs (counter, etc)

i'd put him at d-end because his catching rating is a D-, so he probably wont get a lot of picks.

He looks almost identical to a ATH turned DE I had in NCAA 10. Only difference was my guy was an A- in acceleration. He averaged at least 2 sacks a game, and I'd often run twists with him bursting right through the right guard. You'll have fun playing with that guy.

yeah, I am pumped to see what this guy turns into. I don't know about all of you but typically the second year output is a LOT more then year 1. I will keep everyone posted when we start the season which will probably be next week.

The 2nd-3rd season is usually my favorite seasons. By then, you brought in recruits that fit your team and brought in some studs your anxious to play way. Along with your current plsyers progresses. That is why I usually dont stay with a team long. I like spending years recruiting for my team. If only it had a type of training system in-season, it would add depth.

We are ending season 5 now so next year will be the first season with ZERO default roster players left. My all world defensive player this year is a default roster guy (Breyer). It will be interesting to see if any recruited player can get the sacks that this guy is getting. Breyer has speed that I don't believe I can get in a recruit since I house rule that LBs can't become DEs.

I use Michigan with the 4-2-5 in my offline dynasty and Beyer is definitely a beast. That ATH is a DE all the way and should dominate.

what year are you in? I red shirted Beyer in my first year and by year 5 this dude is total FREAK-a-zoid. I played my first game with the 5-star ATH Smith and he is nothing compared to Beyer. I simply don't think the game makes recruits with Beyer's speed. Playing with this ATH now feels like Beyer playing in quick sand, he is so sluggish.
