The game’s community manager, Ramone Russell, described how the San Diego team began development with a gruelingly in-depth focus test. The goal: to suss out what core players didn’t like about last year’s edition. “The key feedback we heard involved our presentation and commentary, so that’s our number one focus this year.” Russell described a new feature called True Broadcast Presentation, which accurately recreates broadcast camera cuts and other presentation signatures you’d see in a televised MLB broadcast. “We’re trying to blur the lines between baseball simulation on your PS3 and what you’d see on MLB.TV sitting on your couch,” Russell explained. “When a batter strikes out, the camera will cut and you will see his face, his anger.”

Commentary, which Russell specifically described as the “number one complaint” from last year’s game, is seeing a similarly massive overhaul. “You’ll hear more season-specific commentary, more conversation pieces,” Russell explained. “The commentators are going to talk about the MVP race, the Cy Young race, the series that you played in two days before. They’re going to talk about how your pitcher is having an awful year because he’s 5 and 15.”

Ramone Russell, Community Manager: I think it’s our new ball physics. Our programmer ripped out every line of last year’s code and completely re-invented the way the ball acts. It’s a nerd feature, but it adds so much to the game. The baseball gains and loses energy like a real baseball, and if you go into replay, you can count the rotations – that ball is going to spin the way it’s supposed to. This opens up the game because we have bloopers, ricochets off the bases, balls going into no man’s land….it’s much more dynamic and engaging.

You’ve been suspiciously quiet about multiplayer modes so far – you’re probably still ironing out the details, but can you give PlayStation.Blog readers a sneak peek of what’s in store?

For PS3, we have a brand-new mode that is really, really innovative. Nobody has every done a multiplayer mode like this in any sports game, ever. We’re going to reveal it in early 2012. So in addition to the other features I told you about, there’s still this secret feature that we’ll be talking about soon. We think people are going to love it.

My ONLY complaint about this series (and it's an issue in every baseball game I've ever played) is the lack of Walks.

The Show is, hand's down, the best sports franchise on the market.

The funny thing is, The Show already had to notch Presentation. There was already a ton of tiny, immersive, details in the series. Much of it was on the graphical side, as opposed to commentary, though.

Since I went a few years without a PS3 and played the 2K baseball game I think a lot of it comes from the competition. Presentation is great in MLB The Show 11 but one area where 2K11 wins and IMO by a longshot is the commentary. Seriously if you think the commentary in the Show is great, you would probably cream all over your pants from 2K11. The game is not that bad, it plays a bit arcadish with default sliders but the Show wins pretty much everywhere but the commentary. I have to have my Zone based batting and buttons. Can't stand the analog stuff.

I only wish NCAA ( football ) rtg mode was rtts mode . It would be so much more fun and awesome . If and only if we could do school visits almost pick out where we want to go more so then we can now,also doing major up grades to our guy like rtts. And I wish we could allow change of mins in NCAA rtg 5 mins is just not enough dam it.

Admittedly, I haven't kept up with any news on 12. I know their version of Ultimate Team wouldn't get any time from me.

So far, I haven't seen any reason to buy 12 instead of just continuing my franchise on 11. The videos I've seen look just like 11.

I got more than 100 games into a season last year, but then football came around and that was that. Unless something really catches my eye about 12, I'll just pick up where I left off when I get the baseball itch.

Yeah its really sad b/c this game is ALWAYS SOLID. However, with a 162 game real life seasons its just too hard to get very deep into any kind of dynasty mode for me. Even if I was able to play 1 game every day I'd only get through 2 1/4 seasons. Its #1 in my Game Fly queue but I doubt I buy it this year.

Hmm. Maybe I should consider something along those lines. Pitch only one day, bat only the next, full game the next. Maybe even a full sim on day 4. That would certainly help balance the stats.

Yeah, doing it my way I can knock out a season in about 3 weeks. Also when I'm playing as my pitcher and we get ahead and I don't really feel like batting I'll just pitch and field. It really gets me in the mode and stuff when I got a no hitter or a good game pitching going, I can just focus on that and mow guys down.

This game is so..... solid but I think I'll just rent it from GameFly this year. I just seem to get bogged down in the 162 game season and never make it past the All-Star break in year 1 of Franchise mode.

Analog hitting is great, imo. I used the analog controls last year and thought they were just fine.

Only demo available is at Best Buy. Sony got some $$$ once again to give Best Buy the exclusive for all that is pre-release gameplay. Demo will probably pop up sooner or later.

Now if you are itching to try out your Texas Rangers, the MLB 2K12 demo has them and the Cardinals.

Seriously, read the review. How many times have you heard this banter from two female roomates.

That MLB 12 looks exactly the same as its predecessor was evident when we loaded it up for the first time, and a roommate looked up from her computer and asked, "So wait, how is this different from last year?"

Not me, baseball is probably my favorite sport. There is too much to play right now to be able to enjoy the game right now. I haven't bought a baseball game in two years now. I might try to do a dynasty with just playing with the top two starters or something like that and sim the rest of the way if I do get this down the road....but right now I don't have any intentions on picking it up.

what neighborhoods or cities you live in? sounds like not alot goes on,.. so thats their enjoyment?

I live in dense/big cities, right by the 210 freeway and route 66...it never ends up looking like some youtube vid i've seen where it looks like a line for a movie theatre though...the midnight madden was at the Best Buy in Duarte and it appeared that less people showed for that then this...the interesting thing is,both that store and the gamestop i went to last night are around 100 yrds from eachother and no stores in Pasadena or Arcadia were doing it....

I live on the West side of Houston, in a suburb about 10 minutes from I-10. And there are at least 4 GameStops within 10 minutes of me. Not sure why so many people have been there when I've gone. :dunno:

The Show looks great as it always does. I always download the demo... BUT... I jusy can't justify the pruchase. I have owned a few bbal games over the years and have NEVER so much as finished one season or come even close to the halfway point. I would never get my money's worth.

Sony really needs to something with their next console in regards to how things are installed. 10 GB install takes around 20 minutes to copy and install. Throw in a patch and you have up to 30 minutes before you can actually play the game.

I remember the quote when the PS3 first came out from Capcom, to go make a sandwich and get a drink during the install. For cripes sake I could have gotten in the car, drove to Subway, eaten the sandwich and finished my drink with time to spare.

but in this mode you get generic and real players and over time could spend the pseudo money to improve attributes of generic players ...yes, you make your own uni's..but you have to admit,its a great editor if you can learn how to use it

I noticed OS has the new full minors rosters out. However, I cannot figure out how to get them onto my PS3. I just rented The Show from GameFly so I'll need to download it to a USB drive and transfer. I tried but its not showing up as a file to copy/paste onto my PS3. Any suggestions?
