I have said it multiple time but being a game developer is not a good job....damn that sucks.

I am honestly surprised it took them this long to shut er down, simcity was a fuck up of epic proportions and probably cost a shit ton of money. Working in an industry now that sells via Amazon when they start issuing refunds someone ass is getting chewed thats alot of money going back out the door.

Sim City will not recover until they re-release another iteration of the game and these city builder game aren't annual releases more like every 5-10 year releases which is why this FUBAR was even more epic. They couldn't even recoup money on DLC because the exodus was so large on that game.

Edit: I will say though it sure was a pretty game. :)

What does Cities do better that SimCity does not?

The better question may be does SimCity do anything better than Skylines? Based on the previews I don't think it does. I am most excited about having the ability to unlock 9 squares to build your city. One square was the same size as one square in SimCity so you can see how much bigger skylines will be. Plus, this game is a lot cheaper than SimCity originally was $32cdn or $43 for the deluxe edition on Steam). Lot's of DLC is promised and the game totally integrates modding.

Here is a "Let's Play" series from SkyeStorme that will walk you through the game. I watched five episodes last night. This guy goes over everything. It's a great watch. All of the other additions are linked to this one.

Well its time to step up your pc gaming. :)

And this is why I can never see myself getting into PC gaming. I don't want to spend the time and $ having to constantly upgrade my PC to make sure I can play the game that comes out to the market.

So what is the difference between XL and Skyline?

Yeah, that's my issue. It seems like I'd be having constantly spend money and time on upgrades with the increasing specs of newer and newer games these days.

I didn't buy my laptop with gaming in mind, and my desktop will last quite a while except I could definitely get a better video card.

Honestly its not as bad as people make it out to be. Is it going to last you 8-10 years like a console life span..nope ( which I think will no longer be the case from this generation onnward.), but you should get a solid 3-5 before any serious upgrades are needed.

In terms of gameplay not much, Skyline looks better and will probably play better, but XL is really more focused on just making a city with a little bit of people management, Skyline is more about the cities and the people.

I'll dick around with XL for a while, then decide on Skyline or wait for a price drop. I'm assuming there really isn't any kind of social comparisons you can do with Skyline to compare cities of friends?

XL or XXL? XL came out years ago, XXL just came out recently.

I actually do think there is some kind of social comparisons between the cities friends in skylines, seems like I say this on some of the early releases youtube videos.

I got XL Platinum a while back for cheap.

The problem with XL is that it had a HUGE memory leak issue once you hit over 100,000 people in a city. The lag between day and night cycles became unbearable.

As for XXL I don't have it nor will I get it. The pro is you can create massive cities and apparently it is now multi-core so no lag. The con is that it feels "dead." There is no personality to it and overall it has a minimal fun factor outside of seeing how big you can make a city. Skylines (from all the streams) seems to be more like Sim City 4 with the look of SimCity 2013. The downside is that the cap is 1 million per city.

That cap can be removed via mods ...they have already said that it can be that's just the max they are saving for certain the game would work with the recommend specs.

Huh. I hadn't heard that. I know the devs have touted that 1 million people in a city means there will actually be 1 million people who exist (call them agents or cims or whatever you like). I know that 9 tiles is the max but it is moddable to 25 tiles. Personally I am not going to do more than 9 tiles as the strain on my hardware would be too much.

I am pretty sure I heard that in one of the videos from the Early aces folks but I could be making it all up so don't trust me....

Cities Skyline is $22 at Green Man Gaming (http://slickdeals.net/f/7699047-cities-skylines-pre-order-21-89-gmg-still-working-even-though-it-s-launched)

The meta for it is through the roof... (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/cities-skylines)

Absolutely good game....I only played about an hour last night before I started falling asleep....this is probably the best city builder I have played.

I had some GMG credit to go along with the sale, so I grabbed it for just under $20.

I thought I read/heard somewhere you could compare cities....nothing to that effect so I was incorrect on that one unless I am missing something.

I must be getting old I can't remember shit anymore.

Hope so, that would be cool. I'll dig into it tonight hopefully. The overwhelming positive response from reviewers and users made me jump on it.

Save 80% on Prison Architect ranging from $5.99 to $9.99.

$9.99 gets you everything, including your name and bio on a prisoner in the full retail game! I've been messing around with it for a bit and it's pretty damn fun.

Just submitted to get my name in the game

Jeremy "The Butcher" Bennett

Bio: 'The Butcher' ran a meat shop by day, and an organized crime ring by night. If you crossed this boss, you would get the same fate as that a cow would when it came time to make some steaks. A sly lackey undermined 'The Butcher' to take over the shop.

Has anyone played Toy Soldiers Complete?

It's $7.49 over at steam and it looks pretty neat. Kinda looks like a fancy version of Army Men

If you own Bioshock 1 or Bioshock 2 on Steam, they've released both as Remastered for free. It's available as a separate download. Here's a screenshot from the opening of Bioshock:

Going to get it eventually for PS4. I still have Bioshock 2 and Infinite on PS3
