Yeah, I've read a bunch of user reviews and none of them really mention how it compares to an analog stick on a controller, so I'm probably just going to get it and try it for myself. If I could find a decent solution to being able to use an analog stick like device for movement, I'd probably ditch console gaming completely until the next generation of consoles arrived.

That's the one I was looking at. I'll probably get it and if it doesn't work out, just suck it up and dedicate myself to becoming familiar with WASD. I would just use a controller, but using a controller for aiming against mouse users puts you at an immense disadvantage.

Yes, it's another Diablo clone, but it's not nearly as good as Torchlight 2. If you finish Torchlight 2 and would like another Diablo-like to play, then Titan Quest definitely needs to be up there as well.

I actually bought it on 360 but I have played the demo on PC and I felt as though the game was identical it just felt better on PC, I will probably wait until the summer sale or something and pick it up on PC.

For $3, I'm having a lot of fun with Dead Pixels. It's like NARC with Zombies and some RPG elements mixed in i.e. over-encumbered, leveling up.

Side note, tried out Planetside 2, holy hell is that game dumb. It runs like shit (I was lucky to get 30 fps from the way it looked though I didn't try turning anything down) and it's just super boring. It's basically two things: Camp the hell out of your base as you "hold off" the enemy (occasionally shooting one that's stupid enough to stick their heads out) or go with wherever the zerg is currently going to try to "take" a base.

Exactly how Planetside 1 was and the exact reason why I didn't play the first one for very long. It's one giant game of zerg rush here then zerg rush there and whoever has the greater numbers wins. It's just really dumb.

Oh, it definitely looks interesting, but reading some of the posts on the steam forums for the game, people are pretty pissed that it's gotten through in basically an Alpha stage because of the Steam Greenlight system that Steam has implemented basically allowing games that aren't finished to be put on Steam without any indication that they aren't finished.

They normally don't without specifically saying what state the game is in (Don't Starve, for example, specifically stating that it's in Beta and that the final release date is March of 2013), but there's a loophole or some shit with the new Greenlight stuff, so you have to really do your research on those games before you buy them.

It's really disgusting that Steam is allowing this to happen though, but, at least, if you bitch to them about a game like that, they'll give you your money back.

It looks like it's just one executible file that the whole game is on. No install or anything. It comes in a zip file from Media Fire, but when you open the file, just drag the .exe file to a folder or your desktop.

I've played them all. Stronghold 3 was atrocious. Buggy as hell and just not very well programmed to begin with.

Stronghold 2 was amazing, but the AI was really bad.

Actually, apparently the Singleplayer campaign is REALLY well done. For $7.49, I'd say it's worth it, just so that you have Stronghold 2 as well.

Yeah, I picked up Intrusion. It's kinda fun. It's annoying that guns you pick up have limited ammo but that's just a minor annoyance. I'd say it's like Contra with physics... it's not going to engage you for hours on end probably, but it appears to be a fun time waster. I'd liken it to a really well done flash game.

Played some Doom 3 last night for the first time as I got the BFG edition. There are definitely some shit your pants moments :D

It's scary as hell (play with headphones and no lights), but, unlike Doom and Doom 2, doesn't hold up after you know where all the scares are. I'm holding out hope that Doom 4 is more like Doom 2 and it's more open instead of so claustrophobic like Doom and Doom 3 are. Doom 3 was great when I first played it, but Doom 2 is a classic that I still occasionally go back and play on the second to highest difficulty (Ultra Violence) and it manages to still scare the living hell out of me.

If anyone was interested in it from the past, yesterday's daily deals, Wargame: European Escalation is $9.99, 75% off for still another 17 hours. It's a really fun game from Eugen Systems. I've owned both of their recent strategy games, R.U.S.E. and Wargame: EE. There's a new one coming out in the spring, Wargame: AirLand Battle that I'm looking forward to.

Another nice thing about Wargame EE, there have been four DLC packs released (new modes, maps, etc), and every single DLC released has been completely free. They keep pumping out a new DLC pack every 2-3 months and have yet to charge a single cent for any of them.

Civ IV is god when it comes to Civ games. It's depth is pretty much the best and Civ V is missing two big features (Religion and Corporations) that were stripped out of the original release of Civ V to make it more non-hardcore friendly. Civ V is fine as long as you have the Gods and Kings Expansion. People are just snobs about Civ IV because it's a REALLY good game.

The main differences are the two above (no Religion without Gods and Kings Expansion and no Corporations means the game, in general, is more combat oriented than other Civ games) and supposedly the tech tree is bigger in IV (93 tech tree options in Civ IV with their expansions compared to 78 in Civ V with it's expansions) but that's hardly that big of a deal, in my opinion as they consolidated some of the old Civ IV techs and they removed the need for Tech tree usage for religions altogether.

Personally, as much as I liked, and still do like, Civ VI, Civ V is just BEAUTIFUL graphically and it just streamlines a lot of bullshit from VI. I can't freakin' wait to get home so I can install Gods and Kings and start playing Civ V again personally.

I've personally played the shit out of Stronghold 2. It's an AMAZINGLY well done castle building/sieging game with a little bit of normal micromanaging resources and such. It's fun as hell though and the CPU AI isn't horrible.

Having a weird overheating issue all of a sudden. It appears one of my case fans has died, so that could be the issue, but it's hard for me to imagine that a single case fan could be the issue. CPU has overheated all of a sudden twice in two days, specifically when I am doing MULTIPLE things at once (like download stuff on Steam, listening to music/podcasts, and playing a game at the same time). Has me worried. :( Guess it's time to grab a box fan or something and point it at the PC again until I can get around to buying a case fan again.

That's what's sad, I haven't overclocked it at all. I'm doing some testing now to see what exactly is causing it as it appears to only be NBA 2k13 at the moment (that game is so atrociously programmed for the PC, it's just unspeakable). I would just install a new internal drive, but I know I'll be getting a new laptop within the next 2 years and rather than downloading everything all over again, I'd rather just plug the external in and have it ready to go. I just wanted to make sure that A. it was possible and B. there was no noticeable performance decreases when running a game off of an external drive compared to internal.

Yeah, I haven't noticed any slowdowns in games. It's always run fine for me, games start up normally and run great. It's perfect for me because it saves room on my internal hard drive that has limited free space.

Did some DLC buying last night. Have all the DLC for Tropico 4. Bought the Legacy of Rome expansion for Crusader Kings II to get the improvements and additions that it brings. I'm skipping the Sunset Invasion expansion for now, as I don't feel like having everything I've built and worked towards suddenly destroyed with an invasion of massive fucking armies of Aztecs (and the diseases they carry ravaging my lands) during random point in the mid-to-late period of my game. But for now, I'll pass on the Aztec hoards.

Looking at it, it actually looks like a brand new expansion just was released in the last couple hours. The Republic DLC, adding 5 Merchant Republics that you can play the game as, giving you a different viewpoint as you try to lead a Republic and build your Mercantile Empire. I'll pass on it for the moment, as I would rather stick with trying to become King of England from my Irish roots, but I may get that down the road.

I'm gonna try to work more PC gaming in between games of my NCAA dynasty. There are often many times where I just don't have the time to play another dynasty game, or it's too late at night to consider starting an entire new game, so I end up sitting there watching TV or something. I'm gonna try to spend some of that free, non-NCAA time getting back into my PC games, that have unfortunately been completely neglected since September or October.

I stumbled upon a classic that I played the hell out of back in the day...
Betrayal at Krondor - $6 at GoG (http://www.gog.com/gamecard/betrayal_at_krondor)

From 1994, it was essentially a predecessor to Oblvion/Skyrim. When you walked around, you did so in a first-person mode but then when you stumbled on an enemy, you were put into a grid-style, turn-based combat system. Obviously by today's standards it's graphics are awful but I'd still recommend it. I'm debating on buying it... I haven't played it in forever.

Also, speaking of PC games, I just played an hour and a half of Antichamber and holy fuck is that an experience. I'm not sure if I can say I like it or not or even if I'll play it anymore, but man, it seriously fucks with the way you think of spacial relationships and puzzle games.

I personally use a wired 360 controller and haven't had an issue with it. For the most part, games that use controllers assume that you're using a 360 controller.

Your 520 comes in at a rating of 357 while the 7800 comes in at 296 (have to look at the high-to-mid chart (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/mid_range_gpus.html) to see them).

Bear in mind though, not all cards listed with a price are still available to purchase... at least not at that price. May have to do some digging around. I'd recommend looking at the GTX 650. It's new enough that you'll get good support but not top of the line so it won't break the bank (as low as $80 after MiR). That said, you won't be playing very many new games at Very High settings.

2) How do I know if it will work w/ my tower, PC, operation system, power supply, etc....? Or does that not really matter?

Yeah... that's a monster of a card. Unless you plan on going PC only for gaming, that's probably overkill. What are your PC specs now? Power supply is probably the only limiting factor, unless you're on Windows XP which could be an issue. Have a link to your full system specs?

Ok, I must have gotten the new guy at tiger direct support. My questions for him, where, based on my current system what power supply would you recommend so I can upgrade my video card for under $500.

He gave me a 3 page list of 27 power supplies.

I told him they are all different types of connectors, 4-pin, 6-pin, etc...I asked him if they would work on my machine...his answer was to pick one, then call the manufacture of each to see.... :down:

So I guess what I need to find out is, what is the best graphics card I can put on my current machine with SATA interface and a 450W power supply. Then based on cost, what is the upgrade I can put on my machine power supply and video card (preferably NVIDIA) for less than $500.

If I upgrade from 450W to 500W it looks like I can run a better card, but I don't want to waste my money if I'm splitting hairs...what I mean is I don't want to upgrade if it's only going to be a marginal difference. If I'm going to upgrade I want to SEE a difference...hopefully that makes sense.

Any helps/tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'll have to see how good it is. I bought it on Steam, they dropped the collectors complete bundle from $80 to $39.99. I guess to compete with the new Sim City. The nice thing is you get the complete game plus all the addons for $40. It took about 2 hours to download it so I haven't had a chance to play it yet.
