View Full Version : Discussion on head coaching vs coordinating for our OD

I'd like to get some discussion started here on what we should do going forward.

It's pretty clear to me that having a mix of HC and OC/DC isn't going to work because the game engine handles the gameplay differently and thus the stats and results are vastly different.

Personally I really think we need to all get back to HC jobs after this season so we can solidify the sliders for that type of gameplay rather than trying to figure out a happy medium between the two.

For instance, when playing as a DC like most of us are it seems that our offensive side of the ball is to overpowered and that is resulting in very high scores and yardage. Also the time of possession is usually in favor of the other team because the game doesn't handle the clock correctly.

So I'd like to get thoughts here on what to do. The way I see it we have two options. I just don't think coordinator jobs are going to work in order for us to have realistic stats and so forth, we need to be HCs.

1. Finish the season and either get and take an HC job offer or retire and become an HC somewhere at a lesser school that you currently have.

2. Retire now and take HC jobs at lesser schools or maybe the school you left before.

I would vote for #2 as I really hate the stats and the results we're getting as coordinators and it's making things really tough on me trying to find sliders that work "well enough" for both coordinators and head coaches. So I'd say we go with #2 and have some sort of draft to pick teams. This would only apply for the 4 guys that are currently coordinators.
The draft would probably go in reverse order of when you joined so it would be 1. Gnarly, 2. natcret, 3. Austin, 4. Me
So for the 4 of us we can get back to HCs.
I'll try to get a list of available schools for us in the meantime while this discussion goes on.

I'm in agreement on the need to switch back to HC only, but I don't really dig the idea personally of retiring midway through. We're half way through the year already, so I don't see the harm in finishing out the last 5ish games as is. If we're not offered a HC job, retire at the end and pick a new job as necessary. Thats my $.02 anyway. Just hate feeling like this season is a TOTAL loss. Playing 5 games somewhere else would basically mean just that in my eyes.

I'm fine with finishing out the season if that's what everyone wants to do but I do think everyone being a HC is about the only way this can work long term.

Personal preference would be to restart, however, I will go with whatever the group ultimately decides.

No restart! I am still a head coach and finally have Memphis moving in the right direction. You guys can do whatever you want as long as I can finish what I started. Not trying to be a smart-ass but I suffered through alot to get my recruiting where it needs to be.

We'll finish out the year and in the offseason everyone that is not an HC needs to either take an HC job if you're offered or if you don't get offered an HC job you'll need to retire and rejoin as an HC at one of the available schools I'll have listed out when the time comes.
