View Full Version : Bad playcalling - CPU logic when trailing by double digits late

Im finding that a lot of games are getting ruined because of AI playcalling. Ive never seen it this bad before in the series. One instance that Ive seen a few times that really bothers me is for example:

-The CPU is down by 10 against you and driving late in the 4th quarter. They get in field goal range, EASY field goal range. You hold them to 4th down and instead of kicking the field goal to make it a 1 score game, they will always go for it. This happens on any skill level.

Anyone know of a fix for this??? Ive seen it 3 times for sure, maybe more.

Play calling in Road to Glory completely killed the mode for me, you play great, long games to only have them thrown away at the end because of play calling by the CPU. Ive seen punting on second down, running when you should be throwing and vice versa. The last draw for me in RTG was in 2 seperate games I was leading comebacks against the CPU. I get the ball back with less than a minute and no timeouts, down by 7. Im trying to get down and score the game tying TD, but the CPU keeps calling goal line run plays. Basically just trashing an entire game.

I dont understand why this is so bad, I know that they dont think this is how plays get called in real life.

Did you happen to watch the PSU game against Temple this past weekend?

PSU did this twice luckily they converted both and scored the winning TD instead of tying it up with a FG. Now PSU is a nice 1-6 on FG's this season but I just wanted to throw that out there to compare for you.

Also I don't think the play calling this year is any worse then other years.

Yeah I actually did watch that game so I could boo Steve Addazio the whole time. Whats up with Penn State??? I didnt think Addazios team would come within 14 points of winning any game, much less against Penn St.

Thats a different situation. 99.9% of teams that are down 10 would opt to kick a FG to stay in the game. Play D get the ball back and then be forced to score a TD to tie it. Not just go for the TD when its not needed.

Even in Penn States situation it wouldnt happen every time, some teams would just kick the FG. Especially if you werent playing a can like Steve Addazio's Temple team. The game has it coded in to happen every time. They just need to tune it to where you can atleast get the more realistic scenario to keep games realistic instead of the way it is now.

Youre talking about a team down 3, scrapping the FG attempt because of a bad kicker and deciding to go for the win. Thats also a struggling PSU team vs Temple. Penn State wouldnt be doing that vs Ohio State, unless their kicker is on Chris Hetland levels. Im talking about a team down 10 that needs two scores and it passing on the FG, and going for it all with a TD when it doesnt make a bit of sense.

I understand where your coming from and I know it makes perfect sense to kick it but I've seen coaches go for it as well. Now if the code is to go for it all the time like you said then that should be tuned to have some variables in it.

Its no game breaker and is really the only gripe I have with gameplay. I think its nearly impossible to use a lot of play action on Heisman difficulty.

Im finding it easier to win on Heisman than All-American. For some reason my players just play flat out stupid on All-American. 3-2-6 Cover 4 doesnt work for me on AA, my SS will follow a WR going deep to a certain point then cut off his coverage and return to his zone. I play with Florida and I usually play FCS teams, and weaker FBS teams on All-American in the first season to help research things for my final slider set. Ive pretty much come to the conclusion that its better to play on Heisman with sliders tuned slightly in the CPUs favor than on AA with sliders tuned heavily in the CPUs favor.

Personally I like it when the CPU lines up for a 60 yard field goal kick..... then on top of that you come to find that the CPU FAILED to recruit an actual kicker so the freaking QB is in there kicking FG's and only comes up 30 yards SHORT on his 60 yard attempt... some good EA AI on that logic!

Anyone notice that the New Era Pinstripe Bowl isnt in the game. I guess it had something to do with licensing.

I like to keep detailed files of all the stuff in my dynasty year by year, I keep up with preseason all-americans, postseason all americans 1st, 2nd, and FR team. Complete conference standings, final and preseason polls, BCS polls, ranked team scores each week, complete heisman voting, award winners, top recruiting classes, top 100, detailed schedule, awards and game logs for my team, and bowl games. I try to present it realistically, so I went through and got the real dates for the bowl games as they arent correct in game and noticed that a bowl was missing.

I might post some of my years in at the site at some point.

It's because it's played at Yankee Stadium. EA doesn't have the rights to use Yankee Stadium in game. That's why any bowls played at baseball stadiums won't show up in the game.

They could have atleast put a fake stadium in for the game. They shouldnt have removed an entire bowl game because of that.

I got another question that im afraid I already know the answer to. If you move teams around in custom conferences, will their field art and patches update to their new conference. Or will Texas A&M, that I just moved to the SEC, still have Big 12 logos on their field and uniforms?

their field art will update, but the uni patches wont.
