The Wolfpack do it again losing the first week after getting in to the top 25.:fp:.. BYU's defense played amazing in the red zone and NC State dropped alot of passes late in the game. Mike Glennon can't do it alone. The running game looked awful in the first game since losing starting running back Mustafa Greene for 6 weeks. On the bright side next years recruiting class is looking very good.

Baylor went in to Austin with a purpose. We felt we could run the ball, we felt we could control Texas' offense, and we felt we could win. Two out of three wasn't enough.
Baylor and Texas squared off on a rainy and windy afternoon in Austin. The home crowd was electric for the rivalry game, but got quiet as Baylor smelled an upset. The Horns and Bears traded feild goals in the first half as the defenses really controlled the game. Robert Griffin was unusually nervous in his fifth trip to Austin. He struggled with the conditions and got picked off twice in the first half as the balls sailed badly. The Baylor ground game picked him up, though.
Baylor made a bid to open the third quarter with a bang. A long drive stalled after a sack and we had to settle for another FG. Texas got some home cooking and moved quickly through the air to put up the TD. Mike Davis made three big catches to set up Tre Newton for the rushing score. 10-6 Texas.
Baylor thought they had the answer. Jarred Salubi took advantage of blitzing LBs to slice through the line for an 80 yard score! But wait a minute, this one is coming back. Holding - Stefan Huber, center. Unreal...
Backed up to first and 20 from the 10, and the crowd is back in the game. Back up RB gives Salubi a break, so we try to get a patient drive going. Instead, Glasco Martin hits the edge, gives a stiff arm and streaks 90 yards for the score. Are you kidding me? 13-10 good guys.
It goes to the fourth quarter and Texas has to punt. On a 3rd and 2 play, Salubi slices inside the left tackle for an 18 yard run and a first down, but wait another minute...Holding - Stefan Huber, center. Next play, R.Griff air mails a wide open receiver. Instead of another first down its INT #3 for the day. Texas made quick work after the turnover and scored the go ahead TD, 17-13. Griffin was ice cold and couldn't throw the ball. The running lanes closed up, and Baylor missed their chance.
Texas tacked on a late TD to make the final score 24-13. We let them off the hook.

The "let em off the hook" theme continued this week only Coach Wyatt's Rice defense may need to be "crowned". Against a clearly superior athletic team the Rice Owls did the unthinkable and ran off 25 unanswered points in the 4th Quarter to pull off a shocking road victory. It looked like Rice would fall respectfully with a "moral victory" trailing 14-28 heading into the 4th Quarter. Rice's offense was doing virtually nothing and the defense was giving its all but UCF's ground game would bust a big one to give them just enough cushion for the victory.
But as the once EA great Lee Corso would say "Not so... fast my friend!" Rice's defense forced 4 4th Quarter turnovers including 2 for scores to lead what can only be described as the most insane Final Quarter I have played in a long time. Even with 2 previous turnovers it looked like UCF would escape with a 26-28 win but on third and long UCF elected to pass instead of running the ball and forcing Coach Wyatt to burn his last time out. The play call proved to be a drastic blunder. Coach Wyatt brought the house and then some in zero coverage and noone covering the back. Thankfully, the UCF back stayed into attempt a block but practically the entire Owl defense was in the backfield and the Quarterback coughed up the ball right into the arms of the middle linebacker who scooped it up and walked in for the go ahead touchdown with just over a minute remaining.
UCF would throw another interception late and Rice would tack on another late TD to bring the final tally to 39-28. The fans at UCF have to be :bang: after this one and wondering what the coach was thinking. :sf:
