WOW! This is some good news.

Additionally, it was announced that Plus' cloud storage limit will be increased from 150MB to 1GB. The increase will take place sometime in September, according to the PlayStation Blog.

Thanks for all the advice/help guys. 3 hours to load up my backup data but assuming that goes to plan I'll now have a 1TB Fatty PS3. Was actually surprised how EASY it was. Just takes a ton of time to transfer the data to/from the external hard drive but otherwise its a piece of cake.

EDIT: AWESOME I didn't have to re-download a single game from the PSN. Going to double check but all the icons for my games are there.

Between you ... and somebody else who recently swapped hard drives ... I'm definitely doing that once I get a little more stability in my life :D Sounds tons easier than I was led to believe it was.

Yeah I am about as un-tech savy as it gets. The process is VERY easy (see the youtube video on page 11). I should note it did take roughly 7 hours to complete. However, 6+ hours of it is the actual transfer of data to/from the external hard drive. Of course, the time will vary depending on how much data is on your current hard drive. I just went home during lunch formatted the external drive and then started the transfer process. PS3 said it would take 3 1/2 hours so I left came back home at the end of the day and it was finished.

From that point its simply unscrew/rescrew 5 screws and slide the hard drive back into place and then reload the data onto your new harddrive. The reload took much less time (I think it was 2 hours)

Even better! I bought it yesterday with the full knowledge that I may have to go through the long process of installing everything again. I figured it would be better in the long run of upping it to 1TB since I now will catch up on shows through downloading them and putting them on a jump drive, so now I can put them on the HDD and delete them as I watch them. And then of course with all the free stuff from PS+, I won't have to manage and install and delete files, etc.

I think mostly freak but I've seen others report similar issues. I was able to update just fine through the normal method.

I'm pretty optimistic that this fix I found (http://www.thegamingtailgate.com/forums/showthread.php?254-Playstation-3-Discussion&p=166387&viewfull=1#post166387) should work, I will just probably lose my data, but I'm fine with that at this point. I do still have the backup from when I switched HDD's on my portable 320GB if I want to restore it, but I think I'm going to just go clean if I can get this to work.

During Sony's TGS keynote, Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House revealed that PS Plus would launch on the PS Vita this November. The service will be available to PS Vita owners for 500 yen per month in Japan or $17.99 every three months in the US; $49.99 for the year.

Update: A press release from Sony confirms existing PS Plus subscribers on PS3 will get PS Vita membership gratis and new PS Plus subscribers on PS Vita will be able to access the PS3 bonuses. In addition to the savings, PS Plus members on Vita can send their saved game data to the cloud – 1GB total for PS3 saves and 1GB total for PS Vita saves.

Far as I could tell with Arkham City, I earned the trophies, but they wouldn't sync to the server until I got the retail version.

Yeah, they only come up when you actually put in the retail game. However, if you earned 20 trophies on the timed trial, all 20 will unlock the second you put the retail game in.

I'd assume so. Back in the day I wanted Outrun, and it was only available in Europe, so I bought a $20 PSN EU card on eBay, bought that game, and I think Lumines Supernova to finish off the card. You may have to go that route for PS+ too because I am not sure how you'd be able to do it on console.

At least you should be able to download those PS+ games to your PS4. You may have to deactivate your old system, unless you plan on keeping it around for a while like I am (at least a year or so).

IF they can be played I would have ZERO reason to keep my old PS3. I'd likely convert the TB HDD back to just an external HDD. Almost a guaranteed no.

A. It would require them to build the backwards compatibility into the system, even if it is for downloadable titles. It's a completely different architecture.
B. Definitely not, because then they wouldn't be able to charge you to for the ability to stream all those old games, which they almost certainly will.

Far Cry 3 might be worth a look there depending on the price. But at the same time, I'd rather get it for $15 on Gamefly and sell it back on eBay for about the same.

If you are a pinball junkie like I am, you'll love Pinball Arcade. You'll get four free tables, and the rest of the packs are $5 for two tables, some tables like Star Trek: TNG and Twilight Zone are $5 just for the one table. A bunch of great classic tables.

For example, Assassin's Creed 3 retail price is now $30 and the season pass is $30(and has gone on sale fairly regularly), so you can pay retail price with no sales and still get the whole package cheaper than that bundle. 65% savings my ass...maybe over the original retail price of $60.

On a side note, I almost bought Germinator last week totally forgetting it was coming to Plus. I wouldn't have been too happy with myself had I done so. :D

Yeah that was my hunch. That's the biggest problem with the PS Store right now. Even with my + "discount" its still cheaper to buy the game used or even brand new in physical form and then I could always sell it back and get a portion of my "investment" back. But again, make 100% sure what you're clicking on when you get Germinator...there's about 3 different things. The Vita only version, which is currently free for PS Plus. The PS3 only version, which is currently $9.99 (but will be $5.99 for Plus members after the store updates today). Also, there's the Vita/PS3 bundle, which is currently $14.99 (and will be $5.99 for Plus members later today when the store updates).

Started messing around with Sleeping Dogs and its a really fun game. It reminds me of GTA only your an undercover cop. Really liking the story mode so far and I usually don't like open world games but this one has been pretty fun.

I'd imagine you'd be able to play Deus Ex with no problems. It's a very slow paced, tactical shooter. I think you would be fine.

Nope. "Funny" thing is its somewhat a recent issue. As a kid I played the hell out of Golden Eye on the N64 no problem. I wasn't a huge FPS kid but I did play them and no issues. Then in law school tried to play one and boom got dizzy and nearly threw up. Thought it was just something odd but nope every FPS I have tried since its the same thing.

I haven't heard one way or another. They have been pretty hush about PS+ and how it is going to work on PS4. Many have speculated it will include Gaikai (sp?) for free so you can stream/play old PS games but that hasn't been confirmed to my knowledge by Sony.

That might be the case and it would likely keep everyone happy (or at least no Twitter riots). I'd gladly pay $100/yr IF I could play any/all PS1; PS2; PS3 games via stream.

However, they all but admitted their stream isn't going to be up to snuff at 1st and it is still a major WIP.

If I were to bet I believe + gets the stream and no increase in fee (at least for the next several years) and Sony can tout what a wonderful feature it is and try to encourage more people to jump on the + bandwagon.

New consoles are coming out and here's a pile of God only knows how many games I haven't finished. I'm slowly making progress. Yep. And I have been on board since day one of PS+. It was "good" at the start...AMAZING now. And since it's required for online play, I've noticed for the first time ever, a sale on subscriptions.

I agree but it might be less of a good deal when PS4 launches. I don't know what free PS4 games they are going to be able to give us after launch. I just cannot see them giving us launch titles for free a month or two after launch. I suppose they will rely on indy titles and possibly some PS3 Classics that they can port over and/or get to stream through Gaikai.

Well we're already getting two goon PSN games in Don't Starve (and the other title escapes me at the moment), plus DriveClub. I'm assuming it may be a few months before we get a retail PS4 title, but I bet we will still get good PS4 PSN titles, and as you said streamed PS3 titles. Yeah, I've still got all the Playstation One originals (in their 3 or 4 disc cases), FF Tactics, FF Anthology, FF 7, FF 8 and FF 9, and then FF 10, FF 10-2 and FF 12 on PS2. So I keep my PS2 Slim hooked up in my entertainment center and fire it up now and then.

I still don't see what's amazing about it. They do 2 things that just absolutely drive me nuts:

1. Old games. 99% of the time, the games are a well over a year old. To boot, Sony loves to throw in their failures in there, usually something that can be bought for under $10. LittleBigPlanet Karting or whatever is just the recent example.

2. The service is pretty well useless for someone like me who plays lots of games. Out of the time I've had Plus, I'd say I've already played 80% of the stuff they bring to Plus. The other 20% is fighters that I'm not going to play anyway.

I was going to let it run out but if it's required for online for PS4, there isn't much of a point now. :D

I will say, though, that if you don't buy or rent a lot of games, then it probably is a GREAT service.

It's called Gamefly and hundreds of thousands of people use it for their main gameplaying library. What Microsoft is doing could potentially make that go away or, at the very least, be VERY difficult to implement for the XBONE.

As they should. I can't even begin to count how many comments I've read from PS owners over the years making fun of how Live users have to pay a fee to play online while they can do it for free. I'd always say, "just wait, Sony will do it eventually," which would of course draw the "you're a Xbot" comments. Karma.

In all seriousness, though, the writing was on the wall. They saw how much Live was making for Microsoft (hint: it's a ton) and they introduced Plus, which for many has been a great service. It's priced well, so I have no problem paying for it, nor should anyone else that wants to play online. At least you get games in the process.

Sony has now confirmed that multiplayer on PlayStation 4 will require a PlayStation Plus subscription, and that cross-game chat will (finally) be available on launch of the new console.

Fergal Gara, Sony UK CEO, confirmed that the PS+ requirement came for two key reasons: “First of all, we wanted to introduce the console at a healthy price-point compared with PS3,” and the second was because Sony is “investing in a higher performance network, new things, better performance, [and] better reliability.”

However, a single PS+ subscription will cover all available Sony platforms (PS4, PS3, PS Vita, and PSP), and only the PS4′s multiplayer will require the subscription to function. Gara also took the opportunity to state what “immense value” PS+ currently is, covering all platforms, as well as providing free games of all types, and unique discounts on the PSN Store.

The PlayStation 3 was heavily criticized at launch for having an unrealistic price tag attached to it, approximately £425 in the UK, and currently the PlayStation 4 is sat very comfortable at a price tag of £349. A full £76 cheaper than the PS3′s launch price, and a slightly higher £80 cheaper than the current RRP of the Xbox One currently set at £429.

Gara also confirmed when when questioned on cross-game chat on the PS4: “It’s there.” Good. It’s about time, Sony.
