For all of the Run & Shoot experts out there, I'm looking to try this offense/strategy out. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I got the jest of it, just won a game with SMU, but i'd like to know it a bit better.

Paging Dr. Death...

I was just gonna post something along these lines lol! Dr. Death knows a TON about this. Im not sure if there is a thread about this in the strategy section but there might be something to point you along the right path in there until Dr. Death comes in here.

If not here, there's a good bit to be found at Utopia about it.

I appreciate the links fellas, I'm really interested. It wasn't until somebody put up about 45 on me using the Run & Shoot that I had to find out how this was run. Now that I'm reading this, this guy was in the top 100 and ran it to perfection.

One thing you have to keep in mind regarding the R&S in the game, is that EA did NOT properly implement it. There's only 3 true R&S plays in the :SMU: and :Hawaii: playbooks, {60 Go - 60 Slide - 61 X Choice} and even those plays have a WR running a route wrong. So, before I begin, I want you to understand that using either of those playbooks isn't exactly running the R&S.

That said... if you want to try and simulate the R&S you must be able to read the D pre-snap. Then Hot Route whichever WR gives you the best chance to attack that particular D. Set your audibles up wisely and use them when needed and you can get a fairly close approximation of the R&S.

Using Steelerfan's sliders, here are the numbers my QB has put up in my :Idaho: dynasty in two years:

ATT... COMP... YDS... TDS... INT... PCT... Avg/Comp... Rating
791 --- 567 -- 6,384 - 58 -- 12 -- 71.0 ---- 11.2 - .......160.6
743 --- 529 -- 5,941 - 61 -- 12 -- 71.0 ---- 11.2 - .......162.2

My second year, I played 5-Wide under center 96% of the time. I have a few shot-gun audibles to attack blitzing defenses and one for Cover 3, but primarily I was under center in 5-Wide. Hot Routes on nearly every play, based on what I am seeing from the D.

As I tell people a lot, go to practice mode and call the defense so you know what you're facing... say, Cover 2... then call the play and watch how the D lines up and where the zone gaps are. Use motion too... even when you know what the D is in... this will let you see how the D reacts, or doesn't, to motion. Motion is key for two reasons... 1: You can find out if it's Man or Zone and 2: There are times when in Zone a LB or S will shade to the side you motioned to and you can attack the spot he just moved from.

Go through all the defenses you have and then after you are comfortable, hit Random Defense. This is where you will test yourself and your ability to read the D pre-snap. This is the biggest key for running the R&S as it is in the game. If you know... or are 99% sure, of what the D is doing, then you have won the battle before the ball is snapped.

It takes a lot of work and practice, but once you get it down, you can kill w/ this offense. If EA would ever put the entire offense in the game... well, that would be a sweet day indeed.

One note on running the ball, because the in the Run & Shoot, you can run the ball very effectively. If the D has 5 or less in the box, you should be able to get 4-8 yards easily just using HB Dive or Inside Zone as an audible. Both can be found in Trips w/ the QB under center, so if you create a new playbook, be sure to add one, or both, of these plays into your PB and use one of those runs as an audible.

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

you wouldnt count the r&s named plays from the hawaii/smu/r&s playbooks as being true r&s plays??

The ones I mentioned... 60 GO - 60 Slide - 61 X Choice are true R&S plays, but even on those plays they have WR's running wrong routes. On 60 Go the X is supposed to run a streak route down the sideline, they have him running a curl.

i've started to run it a bit, it's tough to get up as many passes as I want online, but in the latest game I played, I used Houston, used SMU's Run & Shoot, and added a few formations to it. I went 31-37 , 437 yards, 4 TD's, 1 INT. Scored 41 points. I consider that a success. 61 X- Choice is my favorite "True RNS" play right now.
