I read last night (had forgotten this) that the Chronicle directing is working on Fantastic Four. Another strike against it, IMO. I liked Chronicle up until the point it became less about morality and superheroes, but instead an anti-bullying PSA.

Just saw Jurassic World today with the family. It was a good movie and we all enjoyed it. I'd give it an 8/10. The formula was very similar to the first Jurassic Park with the big difference in that this park has been established and successful for years. A few things were a bit of a stretch but nothing to take away from the fun. If you like the first JP you will like this one.

Before putting Easter eggs in movies became the craze it is today, I Am Legend included a Batman Vs. Superman Easter egg that has grown to legendary status. In a scene set in Times Square in I Am Legend, Will Smith’s character Robert Neville passes by a large billboard promoting a Batman and Superman movie.

Of course, I Am Legend was released back in 2007, which was many years before Zack Snyder’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice movie was announced. Every couple of weeks, the image seems to make the rounds on social media, along with the question of how I Am Legend predicted the Batman Vs. Superman movie.

In an interview with I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence, Collider got to the bottom of the mysterious billboard. Lawrence explained the reason that it was there is that the producer and writer of I Am Legend, Akiva Goldsman, actually wrote an early draft of a Batman and Superman movie. However, the movie never got made as the script wound up getting dropped, and Christopher Nolan launched his trilogy of Batman movies instead.

Lawrence and Goldsman decided to include the Batman and Superman logo as a fun idea of what movies would have been released when the plagued hit. Lawrence also revealed that when he recently ran into Goldsman that he told him that they never even got permission from Warner Bros. to include the Batman and Superman logo. Marcus Theatres has $5 movies for every movie on Tuesdays. To my surprise, there were still seats for Star Wars in their fancy Dreamlounger auditorium, so I snagged two for the Tuesday after release for $10.

I think they said they had 6 million ticket sales online alone on that period.

JJ Abrams calls it a "blood relative" to Cloverfield; which was a movie I really liked. It has John Goodman in it too so that's definitely a plus. They had secret names for the movie to keep it's origin a secret.

I absolutely loved Star Wars as a kid. The movies don't quite hold up as well 40 years later but the universe they are in is cool. Everyone likes a classic good vs evil story. The new trilogy sucked for the most part as it centred on cgi and had lousy writing. This last one was very good and you don't have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it. I was only really bothered by a couple things: they re-used some plot devices of earlier films which wouldn't bother those who haven't seen them. And the good guys are always super skilled and/or lucky at times but that's star wars.

I think anyone can enjoy this last film and most newbies would probably say it's the best star wars movie made.

I tend to agree. However, I think not having him in this movie is a mistake. Plus the fact that it's not rated often translates into... "this movie is awful." I will see it in the theatres as I loved the original. However, the charm of the original and the look of this movie is not the same. Looks like there will be way to much computer generated content IMO.

Saw Dr. strange with my son. It was really good and the 3D was good too. Some very cool special effects scenes. I'm partial to Origin stories and this was good. The movie wasn't too weird and actually had a Matrix type of feel to it. Some humour too. I'm not a fan of the over the top Marvel movies like Avengers where it's just too many characters fighting all the time in a weak plot. This was one of the best Marvel movies lately.

I hope Rogue One is good. Kind of hoping they give it a different feel. I thought JJ Abrams did a decent job with the first one but this is a chance to do something a bit different in the SW universe.

Yes, it's a bridge between the two movies (I think you mean Episode 6 and 7 btw ;) ), but it has the ability to do what it wants with that. It just had an idea of where it starts and ends, but it's free to do new things between those two points, which is what I'm exciting.

I think the campiness of the other Mummy films put it into the B list of movies although maybe it was just that they weren't that great and led by Brendan Fraser. At the same time I feel the same way as you about the Marvel movies. They have gotten so serious it's a bit nuts. That's why I like them more when there is humour. Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dr. Strange all mixed in a decent amount of that.

Remember when Kevin Smith was making movies like Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy? Those were good times. So now a Jay and Silent Bob reboot about a reboot. Did anyone outside of Jason Mewes ask for this? Depressing side note is that Clerks 3 is dead in the water. Almost as depressing as watching Yoga Hosers.

Here's the story: Sadly, Clerks III can't happen (one of our four leads opted out of the flick). So I worked on a #Mallrats movie instead... which also didn't happen because it turned into a #Mallrats series. I've pitched said sequel series to 6 different networks only to find no takers thus far. Mind you, I'm not complaining: nobody gets to make EVERYTHING they wanna make in this business (do they?). And I've been lucky to make anything at all, there's so much competition out there, so many much cooler ideas from fresh folks. And besides: I had #comicbookmen and then @tuskthemovie and @yogahosers (which all came together so crazy quickly), and the podcasts and #fatmanonbatman. With all of that, how could I bitch about no Clerks III or Mallrats 2? Then when I started directing @thecw shows, it was such a slice of Heaven on Earth, I happily put my Askewniverse sequels to the side. Since I sold #Clerks and #Mallrats years ago, they're owned by others, which limits my moves with my own material. I don't mind: back in the day, all I ever wanted to do was sell my stuff so I could be in the movie biz in the first place. So I don't own Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy or #Dogma... But I DO own #jayandsilentbob. So while I love playing with someone else's new toys on @cwtheflash and @Supergirl, I'm getting eager to play with my old toys again in the inter-connected View Askewniverse I spent the first half of my career creating. And so all last month, I had the time of my life laughing while writing "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" - a fun flick in which the Jersey boys have to go back to Hollywood to stop a brand new reboot of the old "Bluntman & Chronic Movie" they hated so much. It's a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business's recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces! And I already met with the good folks at Miramax and they're into it, so I'm hoping we'll be shooting in the summer! Never give up, kids. Last weekend was the worst weekend for movies in 15 years. This has been a weak July and especially August for movies imo and the ticket sales have reflected it. Why cram things in May? Any time a good movie is released it will do well. LOTR did fantastic with a December release. The idea that blockbusters should only be released at certain times is wrong. The same could be said for the first "trilogy" lol. First movie fantastic, rest unnecessary but since the first one made so much money a sequel was going to be made no matter what.

I felt that trailer gave a bit too much away. The first movie with Pratt was very similar to the original movie imo. They shared a lot of the same things. If it's fun I will like it. Unless there are horrible reviews our family will be seeing it.

‪Star Wars 8 Last Jedi was a disappointment. Long at 2.5 hours plus previews and most of movie was pointless time filler. Some good scenes along with some humour but 6.5/10‬.

I will elaborate that the overall narrative felt dumb and very unrealistic. I enjoyed some fight scenes and I liked the Rey and Luke story but the rest was poorly written. I find it hard to believe they couldn’t write a decent story for SW. Zero reason for a movie with no real substance to be this long. They did reuse a major plot point from the originals. I have no idea how a movie without a real plot or food writing gets over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Bought and paid for with a score that high. Similar quality to Rogue One which I felt was weak too. In no way is the quality close to Empire like some were saying. My local movie and review sections is giving a 6.5 with over 50 reviews. These movies are cash grabs because if you take the SW label off nobody would be flocking to the theatre for it.

I think what bothered me is that they seemingly hired every Australian actor they could, but the role of the son went to an American actor who - while funny - will seemingly be a dolt in the movie. I initially thought Chris Hemsworth (Thor) was going to play the role of the son while McBride would be the goofy sidekick friend. That premise seemed more interesting to me, but maybe the movie will be better than I thought the trailers have shown. (I do like Margot Robbie being in it. :))

It has been so long since I've seen the original movie(s), maybe having McBride as the son makes sense and matches those films. I don't remember much of how they played out.
