It says that if you hold the "A" button down for the 360 that the CPU will take over control of your player. However, when I attempt to do this my player simply stands still and does nothing. What am I missing here?

Thanks

Pretty sure it only works when you are on defense, and if you were spying or already in your assigned zone then you could just appear to stand still. It works for me when I play LB or S, never tried it on the DL.

Yeah, it's the "defensive assist" button.

Yeah, I was trying it on defense. I took a LB, hot routed him to blitz, moved him over to the edge and when the ball was snapped pushed A and he just stood there not moving. I will give this another shot but every time I have tried this he stops moving. I would like to use this at times to help assist me in open field tackles.

Just to be sure, do you know you have to hold down the button?

Similarly, there's that "POWER TIP" or whatever during loading screens that says "To see a quick replay of a play, hold the L1 and R1 buttons at the same time" or whatever. That doesn't work either.

A few more button issues...

When I am controlling a receiver, I can jam :ps3sq: however much I want, but the receivers don't want to dive.

When you do a Hot Route and select a receiver, :ps3R1: is supposed to be "Smart Route." Does anyone know what that does? Because whenever I hit it, nothing happens. It acts like I didn't make a Hot Route selection and still prompts me to choose a route.

smart route extends the route to make sure it is deep enough to be a first down.....obviously this will have no effect on certain routes that already meet that objective

I think holding down A (XBox) or X (PS3) works when you are engaged in a block. It "assists" you to shed the block.

cjg, "Smart Route" adjusts the receivers route to the first down line. For example, if it's 1st & 10 and your receiver is running a 5-yard hook route, you hot route to a "Smart Route" to change the route to a 10-yard hook route.

Oh, okay. So, it would act like I've pressed nothing and I should just hit :ps3cir: to cancel out and just play?

It works for me if I'm controlling a Def Lineman going in for a blitz, it'll make him spin, etc. But I can't get it to work with a CB or Safety while I'm in pursuit or any other time.

I think u r right, just tried it, seems like it does only work when u r engaged in a block

I've been using it a bit more lately because I routinely bungle things up when I try to control a defender going after a ballcarrier in space. Invariably, I hit the wrong direction and send the defender flying the opposite way of the ball carrier. I've held down :ps3x: and, for example, my linebacker will properly line up and take an angle on the ballcarrier so I don't do something dumb and dive at air (I do this a lot, unfortunately, and it leads to long TDs).
