I don't know how many people here are collectors of football "goods," but I saw that Riddell--the helmet company--has just revised their "Pocket Pro Helmet Sets" to reflect some of the school moves and new designs for a number of NCAA Division 1 conferences.

Yeah; I have a full 32-team set of NFL helmets and the set they released for the AFL anniversary along with the Super Bowl Champions helmets they've put out so far. Kind of a helmet geek.

They turned to the Revolution helmet style for these collectibles just recently. I imagine part of it has to do with the fact that the standard Riddell VSR4 helmet design has gotten such poor reviews with regards to concussion safety while the Revolution has been getting great safety reviews. Having their collectibles in that helmet style helps to sell high schools, colleges, and pros on the new design.

If you go through retail collectibles websites--not Riddell--however, it's cheaper and you can typically buy the old style helmet design. They just won't have updated team art.

I like both helmets; my main objection to the black helmet is how foolish it is to wear that color in the southwestern US when temperatures are almost always in the 90s-100s. Oh well.

Given how Riddell likes to make a little extra off of collectors who "gotta have 'em all," it wouldn't surprise me if they sell the gold helmet with the new design as a single helmet and the black helmet is an alternate you can only get in the full conference set.

OMG...I used to collect those exact pencils in 5th grade!! My school had them in a pencil machine for a nickle or dime! I had all of them! Man I wish I still had the set!

Yes, there is a Big East pack.

The Big East pack is listed as unavailable on the Riddell website for whatever reason, but you can still buy it through online retailers.

Through the Riddell website, the MWC pack retails for $16.99 and the others retail for $19.99; if you look around though, you can probably find them for less.

You can also find a good deal of custom Pocket Pro helmets for sale on eBay; I don't think a Sun Belt Conference set was ever made by Riddell, but I found this image from an eBay listing:

Though granted I only have this one Navy helmet, but real is definitely nicer. :)

Though these are still pretty sweet. Definitely something I may look at picking up sometime in the future. I'm always a sucker for little collectibles like these.

I have two "mini" helmets which are about 5" in height.

The helmet with the current logo on it has a "Super Bowl XXXIX Champions" logo on the other side; I won it at a Madden NFL 06 midnight event raffle. The other one I purchased at Gillette Stadium before a preseason game last summer (my bachelor party).

Yeah, it's nice having a boss with connections. :) We stopped at his house to pick up something on the way out of town for a live remote last November, and he showed me his Notre Dame shrine. Three or four different ND helmets, their green jersey, two white jerseys, and a navy blue jersey.

Through his connection, he was able to get me hooked up with that Navy helmet, as well as the Navy uniform (jersey and pants) that they wore in the 2008 Army-Navy game. The exact same uni as you had Navy wearing in that Army-Navy picture you posted in your media thread. I actually need to talk with my boss. He told me a while back about another Navy jersey the guy had, from the most recent Army-Navy game, that still had the unit patches on it. That is definitely one I'd love to add to my collection.

Several things that trouble me in looking at those Pocket Pro helmets... they have the :Missouri: Pro Combat helmet, but not the :Kansas: white helmet? The white one is miles better than their blue one...

That's not Mizzou's Pro Combat helmet. Their PC helmet was gray, not black, and the logo was solid black. You can tell the M is gold. It's their standard helmet.

Okay, I'll take your word on it. I know their PC helmet was grey, but figured that was the "representation" of that. It certainly doesn't look like their standard helmet to me. I just do not see gold in that M...

Dang and I just bought the ACC set at Dicks sporting goods last year...the only difference is Virginia took the stripes off....I have them in a shadow box which looks really cool on the wall with lights shining through glass...

That's an old set; chances are when it was released, SMU was wearing blue helmets. There's a reason why it's out of production and I believe the only way to buy that set is through the eBay-type market.


And Paakaa10... this is the uniform the Pats should wear. Always! Every game!

As much as I like the current Patriots uniform set--it being the uniforms we wore for the three Super Bowl wins--I do love the throwbacks as well. I like the one they have set as their alternate uniform now better than what they wore during the AFL Anniversary season though.

There's a blue outline to the numbers which ties back in the red, white, and blue coloration. I also prefer the white facemask to the grey facemask with the throwback helmet too. Helmet striping is much better too.

I actually went to the above game--Patriots versus Lions on Thanksgiving Day last year--because my father-in-law works for a FOX affiliate and they had spare tickets about 20 rows from the field.

Well, it's also the fact that there was no white outline on the Pro Combat helmet.

Also, none of the other schools have their PC helmets, so Missouri wouldn't.

On the topic of the Missouri helmet, it seems like there are some issues with lighting and coloration in that part of the Big 12 image anyway. Just look at the Texas helmet and the color of the logo; it almost looks black in the image. I would imagine this might be the issue which makes the Missouri helmet look darker than it is.

I'm still good, the only thing that has changed from my set is Mississippi State's helmet (screw em), and Bama changed the 12 to a 13 (I hate how they do that).

A few of these are customs (NCSU, IU, Wisc, Neb, Baylor, ISU, KU, Notre Dame, UAB, UCF, ECU, UH, Rice, SMU, Cal, Stanford and Miss St.) that I either bought on ebay or made myself. All of them have been dipped in Future to give them the proper hi gloss finish, and most have had the facemasks painted as well.
