Some highlights from the Game Informer review...

The previously separate Tiger Challenges are now integrated into a single career path, and instead of feeling like a club hack wandering around looking for a round of golf in earlier Tiger games, I now feel like a golfer on the rise in charge of his career.

While the caddie simplifies matters, playing Tiger isn’t easy. Even though your caddie tells you which percentage to hit, actually producing a smooth swing that hits that number is often difficult.

Moreover, your caddie’s info isn’t always rock solid, but improves the more times you visit the course and meet certain objectives. That said, there were many times when I followed my gut instincts and used a custom shot (which is basically like golfing the old way) for better results. I got a better feel for my clubs’ swings and differences in the process. Similar to mid-air spin and other assists, if you don’t like the caddie feature, you can always toggle it off.

Gameplay Today gives it a 9 out of 10.

An excerpt:

If you’re wondering whether or not you should pick up Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters, it comes down to a simple question – do you enjoy golf games? With the nearest competition being the poorly received John Daly downloadable golf title released last year, there’s not really a question here. Plus, that's only "near" this game because it's the same sport. PGA TOUR 12: The Masters trumps previous Tiger releases thanks to the streamlined career and pacing which results in more fun. If you’re not a big fan of golf, at least rent this one. You might just find that the RPG aspect of building up your golfer and reaching the green in one stroke is more rewarding than shooting aliens.

IGN gives it 8 out of 10.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 doesn't play much different than last year's game, but the additions of a more fleshed out career mode focused around the long-awaited Masters Tournament, and a caddie system that welcomes new players round out the game more. All three versions are great, so you can't go wrong with whichever you choose. I prefer the PS3 version because of it's balance between the motion controls online play. If it featured disc golf like the Wii version it'd be the premiere version of the game.

From Owen Good at Kotaku:

I can't remember how many times I've won it all in my first trip through a sports game's career mode. World Series, Super Bowl, national championship, you name it. My first trip to The Masters, I led after one round and got the same familiar feeling, that this would also be an event catered to me, played on my terms.

Then I got fed into a paper shredder. I finished tied for 36th, five over for the tournament. You know what, though, I earned that score, and I'm proud of it, and proud of how I held up and pulled through even after a Saturday that saw four devastating three-putts, including a No. 15 choke that vaporized from eagle opportunity to God-let-me-make-this par.

I did, gratefully, birdie my final hole. At that point, this video game became the only thing I want to play. I'm not sure when I'll put it down. I want to come back to The Masters again, and build on what I've learned about the course and myself. I can't wait to watch the event in two weeks, and second-guess or predict the action on a more informed basis, thanks to a video game.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters is one of the richest and most memorable experiences I have ever had, not just as a sports gamer, but as a sports fan. It is highly recommended for all sports fans, and mandatory for anyone who loves golf.
