From the sign-up thread for the Tailgate Golf Association, it would appear as though the majority of us here who are going to be playing Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 are going to do so on the PlayStation 3. Coincidentally, the PS3 is the only console receiving multiple versions of this year's game.

Those buying the game for Xbox 360 or Wii will see the following when they pick it up:

Meanwhile, here are the two covers for PS3 gamers:

While I'm not sure that the cover art versions are 100% final--with less than a month to release, it's safe to bet that they are, however--it is interesting to see the differences between the "standard" edition across the three consoles and the "Collector's Edition" exclusive to the PS3.

(Current Gamestop.com cover art for the "Collector's Edition"; slightly different from the above side-by-side.)

Even though The Masters gets the clear central focus on the "standard" covers, it gets relegated to a tiny bit of text in the upper left-hand corner of the "Collector's Edition." The SE, meanwhile, relegates Tiger Woods' name to the bottom of the cover art, while the CE features it prominently in the center of the design. The SE lacks any mention of PlayStation Move Compatibility, while the CE follows the template of recent Move-enabled PS3 releases by prominently featuring it on the cover. Most notable, of course, is the absence of Tiger Woods from the SE covers though he is featured front-and-center on the CE.

Beyond the cover differences, there are differences regarding on-disc content between the SE and CE as well. The SE has The Masters and all of the standard courses, while the CE boasts five (5) bonus courses on the disc which are not available on the SE. The SE will also cost you $59.99 compared to the $69.99 asking price for the CE.

When I began writing this thread, the intention was for this to be a poll to see which version PS3 owners are more interested in purchasing. Unfortunately, I cannot find the option to insert a poll so I'm at the whim of the moderators as to whether or not a poll can be set here.

Until that time, let's pose the poll questions here for response:

Which cover art do you prefer for the PS3: the Standard Edition or the Collector's Edition?
If you prefer the Standard Edition, will you purchase that version even without the five bonus courses? If you prefer the Collector's Edition, do you wish that The Masters received more focus on the cover?

My Answers
1.) I much prefer the Standard Edition cover art because it makes the yearly installment feel more like an event. Having the full Masters tournament and Augusta National in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 is a major accomplishment, and the SE cover does a better job celebrating that than the Collector's Edition.
2.) The hang-up with liking the SE cover more is that you sacrifice the bonus courses included in the CE. Of course, with the $10 price difference, it may be that the five bonus courses eventually get released as DLC for a price just over that $10 differential, which would render it a moot point.
