Is Umenyiora really worth a 1st rounder?

Rams are rumored as a suitor, and that would make things interesting because they've already had a huge upgrade at safety with the signing of ex-Eagle Quintin Mikell.

I wouldn't want to give up a first rounder. Maybe a 2nd.

The rams need defensive help, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bradford be more parallel this year.

Actually that won't hurt us at all he had only 2 rushing attempts last year before going on IR and we drafted the running back out of Oregon State in preparation that we weren't going to resign him.

He's played in just 12 games over the last two seasons due to injuries so it's not like we were able to utilize him that much anyway.

Ain't that a bitch. The last first round draft pick to sign a contract, and then breaks his foot and is out indefinitely in only his second practice.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/6840281/prince-amukamara-new-york-giants-breaks-foot-indefinitely

Prince Amukamara needs foot surgery

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants rookie cornerback Prince Amukamara fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot Saturday and will need surgery, the team announced.

He is out indefinitely.

Amukamara, the Giants' first-round selection in the 2011 NFL draft, left midway through Saturday night's practice with a member of the Giants' medical staff, and X-rays revealed the fracture, which will require a procedure in which a screw will be inserted into his left foot. It was just Amukamara's second practice with the team after becoming the last first-rounder to sign a contract. He practiced with the team for the first time on Friday night.

Amukamara wound up missing the team's first five practices while his agent worked out the details of a four-year, $8.1 million deal, with the first three years fully guaranteed and a little more than half of the fourth year guaranteed.

The Giants had hoped that the 19th overall pick out of Nebraska would proved them with depth at the cornerback position behind starters Corey Webster and Terrell Thomas, and reserve Aaron Ross. The Giants are now extremely thin at cornerback, having already lost reserve Bruce Johnson, who was waived after he ruptured his Achilles tendon Thursday.

Left tackle William Beatty broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot last season in the regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers. He missed two months (six games), but did not go on the injured reserve list.

The Giants also announced that tight end Ben Patrick "no longer wants to play football" and has been placed on the reserve/retired list.

Patrick, formerly with the Arizona Cardinals, had joined the Giants on Monday to potentially compete for the starting spot after Kevin Boss signed with the Oakland Raiders.

Patrick played four seasons in the NFL -- all with the Cardinals -- compiling 446 yards and four touchdowns on 45 receptions in 42 games.

just a crap article to invoke controversy...no sports fan would seriously not like this. His visual artistry may have even influenced some to pursue making sports video games because you can watch what you are making happen at the same time. It certainly influinced how they do replays in sports video games. His slow downs and close ups helped people remember game moments more than you ever do watching a live game

I completely agree with everything. It's utter bullshit that people are up in arms about him being in the HoF. The dude MADE the NFL what it is today. He's the reason why the NFL was popular in the 70s and 80s (when NBA Basketball started becoming king) which has lead to it being the most profitable fuckin' Pro Sport ever. Without the 70s and 80s boom, the 90s to today would not be as big as it is.

Absolutely. It's something that other sports are sorely lacking as well. Good luck finding a regular season game of the NBA from the 50s or 60s whereas pretty much everything from that era and on is available because of Sabol.

Especially with his idea to mic coaches and such, we get to see stuff from 40 years ago that we don't really get to see 40 years ago in other sports.

From ESPN -

Running back Ricky Williams has signed with the Baltimore Ravens, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Monday.

Williams signed a two-year deal worth $2.5 million with some escalators that could make the contract worth $4 million total. In Baltimore he will back up starting running back Ray Rice.

Williams' signing in Baltimore was first reported by ProFootballTalk.com. He will help fill a void in the Ravens backfield created by the departures of Willis McGahee and Le'Ron McClain.

NFL Transactions Analysis

NFL ESPN.com's division bloggers react to all of the big NFL free-agent signings and trades throughout the frenzied post-lockout period. Blog

• Insider: Instant analysis Insider
• Scouts Inc.: Free-agent tracker

The 34-year-old Williams has 9,565 yards rushing in 131 career games. In 2010, he rushed for 673 yards while sharing carries for the Miami Dolphins with Ronnie Brown.

Brown has signed with the Eagles for the 2011 season.

Williams had been with the Dolphins since 2002, longer than any other player on the roster. His longevity is a surprise considering he retired for a season in 2004 and played in only one NFL game in 2006-07, when he served a suspension for violating the league's drug program.

In 2009, Williams took over full-time running back duties after Brown suffered an injury and finished with 1,121 yards, his highest total since 2003.

So is Reggie Bush going to be their every down back?

He's currently fluctuating between 3rd stringer and starter so I don't know what to think about him at the moment. I have a bit of time for that to get sorted out before I possibly go after him, but he has been a 7th or 8th round pick in some of my drafts, which I'm fine with. That's flyer country.

Only caught the highlights of the Raiders-Cards game but I wasn't very impressed to say the least. This WILL be another long painful season... thank you Al Davis for your quality drafting, comittment to long-term coaches, and overall logic in running a franchise. :(

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP)—Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay posted on his Twitter account that he was in Brett Favre’s(notes) hometown, but the quarterback’s agent says he has not heard of any interest from the Colts.

The 41-year-old Favre retired in the offseason after a 20-year career and lives in Hattiesburg. Irsay sent a tweet on Sunday saying “Brad, I’m in Hattiesburg … is it right or left at the Firechief?”

Favre’s longtime agent Bus Cook said he hadn’t spoken with the quarterback in a few days, but the “last time I saw him he was on his tractor mowing the back forty.”

Through a spokesman, Colts’ general manager Chris Polian declined comment on Irsay’s tweet.

Though Favre has repeatedly said he’s retired during the offseason, any Colts’ interest would make some sense. Peyton Manning(notes) had neck surgery in May and hasn’t played in the preseason, casting doubt on his 227 consecutive games streak.

That’s a scary proposition for the Colts, who have little experience behind him.

“I certainly want to be out there, and it’s hard to keep track of the hours I’ve spent in rehab,” Manning said on Saturday. “I was short-changed a little bit by the lockout and I’m going to need every bit of the next two weeks, and then I can give you more of an update with where I am.”

Curtis Painter(notes) has started both preseason games, completing 8-of-16 passes for 95 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. In Friday night’s 16-3 loss to Washington, Painter managed only one first down and couldn’t get the offense past its 29 despite playing the entire first half.

He hasn’t played in a regular season game since 2009.

The only other quarterbacks on the roster are Dan Orlovsky(notes), who has played in 13 games in six NFL seasons, and undrafted rookie Mike Hartline(notes).

On Saturday, Irsay acknowledged on his Twitter feed that the Colts might not have their four-time MVP quarterback at the start of the season. Manning signed a five-year, $90 million contract in July after the 4 1/2 -month lockout ended.

Favre is a three-time MVP and has thrown for more than 71,000 yards and 500 touchdowns, winning a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers along the way. But the famous gunslinger began to show some serious wear in 2010 with the Minnesota Vikings, throwing for 2,509 yards, 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in an injury plagued season.

He also was hounded with allegations that he sent lewd photos and messages to a game-day hostess when both worked for the Jets in 2008, and was fined $50,000 by the NFL for failing to cooperate with the investigation.

But with Favre, anything seems possible. He retired with the Packers in 2008 and New York Jets in 2009 before deciding on a return. Favre has kept a low profile during the offseason, saying at a football camp at the University of Southern Mississippi that he wasn’t sure of his future plans, though he insisted he was done playing football.

making fun of Al Davis is pointless.. the fact is he did help advance football in many ways...the problem was/is, he has been a bitter, angry control freak throughout and its eaten away at him physically..hiring a female in high ranking position on a football organization probably didnt help him either LOL
