I am mixed on them, I was quite fond of them on console but then when I started PC gaming I noticed all the trash that is out there and I can see how it can turn people.

And by majority (key word) his paragraph about the haters is actually accurate, more often than not if it's only 20.00 and has a small team of 8 devs its probably an indie game, or self published...just saying though I know he was trying to make a point.

Hell even the indie dev teams create "studio" names and publish it, ever really read the Steam early access stuff half of those games are technically "indie" and probably more than half suck and are cash grabs, so much so big name publishers are getting into the early access stuff.

So, here’s another change for you: if you really think feminism, or women, are destroying games, or that LGBT people and LGBT relationships have no place in games, or that games in any way belong to you or are “under attack” from political correctness or “social justice warriors”: please leave this website. If you played through Last of Us at a stable 60 fps, then played through it again at a stable 30 fps, you'd probably notice little to no difference. The key is stable.

I was never a 30 vs 60 fps guy until I played the PS4 version of the game, since it allowed you to switch between the two in the settings. Just standing and turning the camera the difference was night and day. Find someone who owns a PS4 and the game and see for yourself.

Do you think it's a problem of not a lot of games and pressure from fans and developers to send out un-finished work?

It seems like more than a few games are having problems on next-gen.

Drive Club was supposed to be great, including a PS+ free version, it bombed.

Battlefield, from what I heard had all sorts of issues.

AC Unity, looks to be having all sorts of issues.

NBA Live 14 seem to have problems.

I will say it's kinda sad, we all used to bash EA when NCAA would come out, it would have all sorts of issues and problems then "patches" would come out and usually make things worse, everyone would jump all over EA....well EA isn't making all of these games now that are having these issues....did all the people that used to work on EA's NCAA staff move onto these other companies or are a majority of these gaming companies ok with sending out unfinished, un QAed products?

Another thing I'm learning, slowly but surely is to forget all this nonsense about early releases or midnight releases, etc..etc.. I think I'm much better off waiting a day or week after the game is out to hear if the thing actually works, then investing in it.

I didn't have much choice w/ the AC Unity game, I bought the XBOX1 bundle that had AC Black Flag, which by the way seems really good, and it also came with Unity which wasn't out at the time of me buying the bundle. I bought the bundle with the assumption that Unity would be as good as Black Flag. I read reviews on Black Flag prior to purchasing the bundle and everyone seemed to really like the game. I guess the thing to learn is, just b/c one version is, doesn't mean the next version will be as good or better. (From what I hear the Call of Duty series really took a nose-dive a few games back compared the really good ones that had a few years ago).

Problems like that happen often at the beginning of a console cycle. But yes, the pressure (and expectations) from fans and company management is a factor. The amount of money spent on a AAA title now is insane.

Before you order it... don't you have an elgato? If so, it can take composite/component as an input and then that would convert it to HDMI.

It'd be a pain to switch back and forth with all the wires. It's not something I'm looking to get right away. Just was looking at options because the RetroN 5 has HDMI out but getting terrible reviews due to quality of build.

I used to pre-order everything on Amazon with the $10 - $20 off. However, that has stopped and the free pre order bonus dlc just isn't worth the risk of getting burned. So, I'm not pre-ordering anything anymore - which sucks for Amazon because that means I'll be buying from Gamestop (or some other brick and mortar retailer).

Except for the NCAA part, I agree. I still have 11+ games on 360 to play through, plus a few games on Xb1 to play through.......so I don't bother pre-ordering anymore. I just buy months later when the games are much, much cheaper and I eventually get to them.

I have been enjoying the FREE TRIAL of Civilization: Beyond Earth via Steam. It's a decent game but a little low with features and depth. Currently it's $29.99 until Monday. Not sure if I am going to pick it up though.

Anyone else getting an error/issue through Origin that their e-mail is invalid?

The only EA game I have played in last few days is NBA LIVE 15 and at start-up I kept getting message that my e-mail is invalid. I would skip through instead of entering in a new e-mail. Today when checking OD status, the website indicated I had 'bad credentials.' Heading to Origin for support help was also not letting me sign in, but after going through the Ticket Support area, the sign-in there worked. From there, my account did not look compromised, but it was indicating the e-mail was not verified. I had it resend the verification e-mail and I am hoping that addressed the issue as I can now sign into OD site again. I'll need to play LIVE or some other EA title to see if it tells me the same error message at start-up.

I bought Civ V before Christmas when Steam was having a super 75% off sale. I've messed with it some, it's one of those games that really takes a lot of time but it is very in-depth and seems very good.

Have you played Civ V? Can you offer a comparison to Beyond Earth? I think the new one looks good, just not sure if there would be a huge difference?

EDIT: after reading reviews online, it seems like a similar pattern, when Civ V came out everyone liked Civ IV better, then over time as new DLC came out and Civ V became more complete people liked Civ V better. Now in reading the reviews it seems like a similar story, they all say Civ BE looks great but it's not complete yet and it's lacking in areas that Civ V has more content. Then they all seem to say when you're comparing the two and comparing what you get for the price Civ V is a no brainer. They seem to say Civ BE will be worth it later down the road when they have more DLC but as of now Civ V (complete edition) seems to be the hands down version. The Civ V complete edition which I assume includes ALL the DLC and everything extra is on sale 75% off for this weekend. You can get what seems to get really great reviews for only $12.49.

On Steam's site it seems like Civ BE gets "mixed reviews" and Civ V has "overwhelming positive", plus in a few reviews I read on Civ BE they said they were not able to fight or have war (or there was very little fighting/war), on Civ V there seems to be chance to fight and have war with other colonies quite often.

I just need to crap more time so I can put time and effort into Civ V.

On Steam's site it seems like Civ BE gets "mixed reviews" and Civ V has "overwhelming positive", plus in a few reviews I read on Civ BE they said they were not able to fight or have war (or there was very little fighting/war), on Civ V there seems to be chance to fight and have war with other colonies quite often.

I just need to crap more time so I can put time and effort into Civ V.

However, the game though still enjoyable has begun to get a little too repetitive as essentially it has been the same game forover a decade. What is great about Beyond Earth is that it is a fresh new idea. The game is fun but at this point it has minimal depth.

So, I have made my first foray into gaming headsets. Normally I would just use what headsets came with the system, I don't use headsets often enough, only when specific friends are online and we jump into party chat.

But, my old 360 headset died two weeks ago, my mic still worked but the earphone was dead, I couldn't hear shit from it, something with the cable. I was out looking for a new headset and could either get the standard 360 headset for $15 or $20. Or spend a little extra on a pair of Turtle Beach X12s.

I'm sure there are other versions of Turtle Beach headsets or even better brands than Turtle Beach (not sure as I don't really keep track of headsets), but I have to say, I'm loving being able to pipe the game sound into my headset. I'm hearing a ton more things through my headset then I ever have or did through my TV.

For my first purchase of a non plain old vanilla headset, I'm happy. The price point was low enough that even if these end up going to crap early, I won't be too upset, but I also can dip my feet into the headset market, know what to expect in terms of sound or controls and can look at a higher quality (and likely more expensive) headset down the road for my PS4 and One.

I haven't used them in NCAA yet, but using them in a quick game of COD, my god, I know why I would always get killed so easily. You can clear as day hear the footsteps of anyone running nearby, making them easy targets to mow down. Even for being a "cheap" headset, I'm sold! :D

Biggest problem I had with my Turtle Beach headset is that there was a hiss to the headset no matter what I did, even when sound wasn't coming through. Are you having anything like that Smooth? I wasn't sure if it was my setup or just a normal problem with that line of headsets (the specific one I had, that is).

I only get a little hissing in the headset when I have the chat volume turned up. If I turn chat volume down (if I'm not in a party with anyone) and only have game volume turned up, it sounds great. No hissing that I can tell of. That was one thing I have heard about with Turtle Beach, that there can be a hissing, another reason why I stayed a bit on the cheap side for my first headset purchase.

I wasn't about to go $100+ on some random headset. When I buy a headset for my One and PS4 (I definitely can't go back to just the standard headset that comes in the box now after experiencing these things), I'll have to do some in-depth research and get any opinions you guys have of certain brands and versions.

As I recall IOU was the one that turned me on to the Astros (go figure) - I think he had A40s then and has now upgraded to the A50s (wireless). I have never purchased another gaming headset so I cannot compare brands but I think the "consensus" is that Astro makes one of if not the best quality headset for gaming.

They are comfortable on my head for hours at a time and the sound is outstanding.

Doesn't bother me, especially if the remake/master is the definitive version with all DLC. If a Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster makes it way to current gen, I'm all over it.

Helldivers is a great coop isometric indie game. A futuristic shooter that isn't easy and has some cool features where you have to use commands to ask for more ammo, weapons and revive partners. If you liked the tomb raider isometric games this is a Destiny style version and very well done.

I have no desire to play the 3rd game again. WAY too many cut scenes. Kind of why I'm waiting for the Order to get to $20 before I go through something even worse in that department. UC2 was too scripted in the first half of the game too. Some things bugged me but I really enjoyed the second half.

I haven't played the games but I know the game involves characters that no one knows but fits into the GoT universe and that they will interact with major characters from the shows. Kinda like Walking Dead is in the same universe as the show/comics but doesn't directly tie into it.

Just beat God of War Accension last night.

Wasn't bad, ending was entirely too easy though. I struggled more on the one part where you had to keep pulling that latch to go up..and fight different enemies at various ppints of it.

And another part where you had to fight various floating and lightening bolt throwing ones. Those two stages pissed me off

Yeah, it was really bare bones in regards to almost everything. Limited amount of courts, only one camera view and easily the most repetitive commentary in a sports game, ever. Played pretty fast and felt like a cross between VT and Top Spin. The graphics were pretty good and they had one really neat feature that let you play on 3 different courts in each of the Grand Slams (center court and a couple outer courts). It does take some getting used to, R1 to jump annoyed the crap out of me at first but became second nature a few hours in. The grappling hook was my other complaint. So much fun to use but it took away a big chunk of the difficulty in the second half of the game, especially at night. Also that ending was shit on so many levels.

My kids have Legos, they are fun, but I didn't realize Minecraft has things (zombies, skeletons, etc..) that can kill you when the sun goes down. Putting the time crunch on there, that you have to get things built before the sun goes down and managing your time makes for an interesting dynamic.

I have it on Xbox One, I was thinking of getting it for PS3, when I read reviews it seems like the major difference is the Xbox One and PS4 can have larger worlds due to more HD space, etc...

Is that the only difference? Is the PS3 version just as good otherwise?

The other thing I need to learn how to do, if it's possible is play a 2 player game so my son and I can work together either at the same time or he can play in the day when I'm at work and I can play at night when he's in bed on the same world so we can work as a team. Plus it would be cool if we could play together when I get home and build things together.

I'm still new to it so I don't even know if what I'm saying is a possibility on the game. I know you can play online, but what about a 2 person cooperative build?

Edit: speaking of all the extra stuff, we were at Gamestop and Luke, my 7 year old came up to me with a foam pixel sword, he was all excited, "LOOK DAD it's the sword from Minecraft!"

I thought that was cool, we didn't get it, as new water heaters come with foam insulation sticks in the packaging, so I take them home to my kids for foam sword battles.

The worlds on PS3 are smaller, yes. I'm not sure if that is the only difference. I know some things (ie witches) have been added to the PS4 version since she has had it but I'm not sure if those things were added on PS3 as well.

Also, yes, you can play with a split screen so you and your boy should be able to play simultaneously.

What does Nintendo need a more powerful machine for? The graphics for Mario and company are ps3 quality. Unless they change their cartoon approach has I don't even see a reason for a new machine. They released a machine after 6 or 7 years after last Gen released that was inferior in some respects. Still can't believe madden 13 was significantly uglier on a new wii u compared to the old ps3.

The Warriors attack is square and special is circle and the right stick is the sprint in the direction you are pointing at. The elf, on the other hand, used the right stick to shoot arrows and circle is a dodge roll escape.

It's a space flight simulator essentially. Kerbals are a race of small green humanoids. You start with essentially a fully functional and furnished launch pad and space port. From there, you experiment with building rockets and trying to get them into space. You can build rockets similar to the old Saturn Vs used during the Apollo program, you can build rockets with space shuttles, you can build unmanned rockets that can carry satellites and laboratories. You can build your own international space station, you can go to the moon (called mun in the game), go to a bunch of different planets, build space ports, space stations, space bases, capture asteroids, etc.

If you fuck up while building your rocket, you'll watch the launch fail and the rocket either drop back to the ground and explode right there on the launch pad, or maybe it'll achieve temporary flight and then crash into the terrain. Even if you get out of the atmosphere, you still have to get into geosynchronous orbit or the ship will just gradually sink back into the atmosphere, come down and crash. It'll even break apart and disintegrate in midflight if there are structural issues in the design.

At one point, while playing it on PC, I had 15 satellites and three different fully crewed shuttles obiting Kerbin (earth) at the same time. I never got around to trying to piece together a space station, and I never figured out how to reach the moon without either crashing into it or still having enough fuel to return to earth. That was after crashing and destroying anywhere from 50-100 rockets because I was still trying to learn proper thrust to weight ratios, as well as proper structural designs and aerodynamics, all while still fitting enough fuel on board to reach geosynchronous orbit.

The other thing, is it's challenging. It has a reputation for being difficult for new users to learn because it has semi-realistic orbital physics. It's not a perfect physics simulation, but it's close. From the wikipedia article on the game:

Every object in the game except the celestial bodies themselves are under the control of a Newtonian dynamics simulation. The planets themselves are also significantly closer together than the planets in our solar system. However, there are mods that port our own solar system into the game, with accurate scaling and environments; but due to the stock parts being significantly under-powered if this port is installed, it is often used in conjunction with many other mods.

Yeah, there's a lot to it! Basically, go into expecting lots of crash and burns and lots of death. It definitely takes some time to get used to the physics of it and trying to launch proper rockets. Then you have the experimentation part where you can try and create the craziest or most absurd rockets possible and see if you can somehow successfully launch them.

Overall, it's just a really fun time waster that will make you learn and work at the same time as having fun. Basically the space and NASA version of Farming Simulator. :D

As for the planet names, I honestly never really gave it much thought. I have no idea why they decided to use similar but fictional planet names rather than realistic. Probably Pluto fucking things up with the CLC, still pissed off at being named non-planet midget. :D

The drag racing in need for speed underground was shit though. All it was, was just a reaction to the light and shift right from the side of the race. It was terrible. Put me in the drivers seat. Force me to take care of and manage my car. Don't give me one in mint condition every race.
