Ethan gets much better because he has to make tough decisions going forward. The FBI agent was forgettable to me. Shelby was always great. And the reporter has one scene that I wasn’t ready for and it didn’t turn out well.

Pretty much. It does get better but not much. I actually preferred their original game Indigo Prophecy aka Fahrenheit in the rest of the world.

It isn’t getting much better. A murder mystery with a Seven like setting is interesting but so much about this game is tedious. Everything is worse that Detroit and by a lot. So much unnecessary stuff, wonky controls and the voice acting is weak imo. Very close to quitting. If I have to yell Jason one more time I’m shutting the game off.

I found a funny and spot on criticism of Heavy Rain from years ago after the author played about 4 hours. Probably the same as me although I think I played a bit more before quitting. Not too many spoilers for those that haven’t played it.

“Heavy Rain is the story of a man who gets depressed because his child is too stupid to live. Ethan is either the dumbest or most self-destructive character I've come across in ages.”

Clearly not a fan.

Oh well. You tried. Not everything is for everyone.

My wife and I LOVED it back when it came out. She wouldn’t let me play unless she was there. She claims she figured out who the origami killer was but I didn’t hear her vocalize it until after the fact.

I was not even close as the killer was not even in my top 3.

I had Ethan and then Carter Blake if I remember correctly.

I think Yahtzee summed up the game the best.

The controller itself is amazing, I forget where I posted about here but it is somewhere.

But to make the unboxing so simple you can open everything with your teeth? That is dedication.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=36&v=3zgXda67cEo

People spend hours watching gadget unboxings on YouTube, but you rarely see a box that’s designed to be opened with just your teeth. That’s a design consideration that Microsoft has taken to heart for its new Xbox Adaptive Controller packaging. “A lot of these limited mobility gamers are actually used to opening packages with their teeth,” explains Mark Weiser, a packaging designer at Microsoft. “We wanted to avoid any damage.”

Microsoft has created packaging that includes loops, multiple access points, hinges, levers, and ribbons to make it as easy as possible to unbox this new controller. Even the outside of the packaging that the main box will ship in has a loop that can be peeled away to reveal the main box. The main box includes a ribbon that can be pulled to activate a flap that lays flat to cushion the controller once a user pulls on the loop to remove it from the box. It’s a fascinating mechanism that shows the level of thought and detail that went into designing this.

My list is very small compared to probably most of you.

1. Playstation
2. Xbox
3. Playstation 2 (both fat and slim)
4. Xbox 360
5. Xbox One
6. Playstation 4

A lot of my friends had Nintendos, GameCubes, stuff like that, but I never got into gaming myself until Christmas 1996, when my parents surprised me with a Playstation for Christmas (I never even asked for it, had no clue it even existed until I unwrapped it that day) and ended up with Final Fantasy VII as a surprise birthday present from my sister a couple months later. That day started a lifetime of video game, and Final Fantasy in particular, love for me.

Edit: Completely forgot the original Xbox on my list. :fp:

It is a basically a tribute to the Harvest Moon series from the SNES versions and on by one guy. It has a fun gameplay loop that does feel a bit like Groundhog Day on a farm. Interesting characters to learn about ans possibly marry if you find the things you like. The fishing is really fun and gets pretty hard on exotic fish that can only be found during certain times of the season. Mining to see how far you can get in a day, fighting monsters as you look for precious gems. Making enough money to improve the farm and start making silos and barns with animals to care for. There is just a ton of stuff to do in this compact little world.

"I ran a team internally with Patrick post-Battlefront to actually redesign our game development framework and testing platforms to ensure we're giving our game teams the right guidance--we'll call it an EA moral compass--at the beginning of development so that we're designing our live service early, we're testing it early, testing it with gamers who are giving us feedback so we ensure those pillars of fairness, value, and fun are true," Bilbey said.

So it seems Amazon is making a PS4/XB1 game (episodic) about the Grand Tour series.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-08-21-amazon-has-been-busy-making-an-episodic-grand-tour-racing-game-for-console

http://youtu.be/Hc0MGuLQ7GE

The Grand Tour Game, made by Amazon Game Studios in Seattle, will be episodic and receive new episodes weekly during Season 3 of the Prime TV show. It's not clear how much content an episode constitutes, nor whether they'll cost anything. Season 3 of the TV show has no release date, incidentally, but is expected around December.

The Grand Tour Game lets you follow in the footsteps and tire tracks of Grand Tour hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond (I can't wait to see what they look like in-game). There's four-player split-screen and there are side-splittingly funny power-ups like High Tea and More Horsepowers.

So the guys at HB Studios have really screwed up their launch of the new TGC 2019 PGA game. First they promised a release in August and it looks like that will be the case next week but they have never said a date. A couple sites, one an MS site said it would be available the 21st. HB corrected them but somehow the game was released for a short time in Australia and Europe before it was removed. They tried to delete all the footage because as many have noticed the game really does not look it has changed that much outside the PGA stuff. From what I watched it looked like The Golf Club 2.5. There have sent out some review copies for a few users so there is footage out there. Now there are rumors that 2K sports are going to be the publisher for the game.

So how do you piss off the customers any more? They shut down the TGC 2019 part of their forum so nobody can talk about it there.

The most insane part is they still have not released a price. Have you ever seen a game so close to launch to not have a price yet?

https://www.cnet.com/news/sony-ceo-says-you-cant-have-cross-play-because-playstation-is-the-best/

...today, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida reportedly told the press that his company generally doesn't believe in the idea of opening up the PlayStation to cross-platform multiplayer.

"On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that's our belief," he said, according to The Independent.

getting close to the PS3 quotes...

Ken hints that PS3 might be a tad pricey: "We want consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one.' We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."

On the price of PS3 again: "It's probably too cheap... If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

Now seeing that TWD Final Season has been cancelled as well. The remaining crew is working on Minecraft for Netflix.

What a shame for a company that put out some great titles. It's too bad they didn't try to get bought out by a bigger company/studio.

Same here, CLW. I knew I could wait a few months and get the whole thing in one shot for $5 in the PSN Xmas sale.

I also kind of assumed (just gut feeling, nothing to base it on) that the entire game was finished (or very close to it) at the launch of episode one, they just released it in chapters. Apparently not or else I would think they'd still be releasing TWD Final Chapter.

I really am sad about the last season of TWD being essentially cancelled. Especially when it is already halfway released (after tomorrow at least).

It feels just like the crap TV networks put us through. I find a TV show that I like, get emotionally invested in it, and then those jackasses at Fox or NBC or whoever else go and cancel it halfway through the first or second season and it either just gets cut off entirely midway through the story with no conclusion, or if you're lucky, you get a couple episodes of an extremely rushed and not great conclusion.

That's basically what's happening here, though maybe after more than just one or two seasons. We're about to finally wrap up the Clementine story, just two more episodes to be released to finish it all off, and we're basically being given the middle finger.

Got NBA Playgrounds 2 for my daughter for Christmas. Have had some fun with it. I do think it sucks that there are less than 10 players available initially. I don’t mind paying the $13.50 Canadian to add the players but it should have been a deluxe and open option. Instead they are money purchases and the player purchase unlock only applies to that user. So I bought them for my daughter but if my son or I play under our account we don’t get them.

I think I’m getting better at rebounding and blocking but rebounding is tough. Defence is tough altogether. Stealing seems to work better than pushing. 3 point shooting is very hard. It seems you are better off taking 2 point shooters and guys who can block and rebound over 3 point guys. I find the meter a bit tough.

Your personal experience, however tragic and unfortunate, does not affect my enjoyment. If you want to tell your story or "raise awareness" - cool. If you want to destroy something simply because you no longer enjoy it - fuck off.

That said, for completely unrelated reasons, my interest in football has dipped to an all-time low.

I probably watched like 4 ND games this year and didn't see one second of the ass-beating they took from Clemson. I got better shit to do.

Even the Steelers, I missed 7 of their games this year. The last time that happened was 1993 (the last year before NFL Sunday Ticket). Hell, I went from 1994 to around 2015 without missing more than 2 or 3 Steelers games total.

Electronic Arts has canceled its open-world Star Wars game, according to three people familiar with goings-on at the company. The game, announced alongside the shutdown of Visceral Games back in 2017, had been in development at EA’s large office in Vancouver.

EA Vancouver, a large studio that mostly handles support for a variety of the publisher’s games including FIFA and Battlefront, had been working on this open-world Star Wars game since October 2017, when EA closed Visceral Games. Until then, Visceral—best known for its popular Dead Space horror series—was developing its own Star Wars game. That project, code-named Ragtag, was a linear action-adventure game directed by Uncharted director Amy Hennig. EA Vancouver had been assisting on the project, and when EA closed Visceral Games on October 17, 2017, the Vancouver studio took it over.

But it wouldn’t be accurate to say that EA Vancouver’s Star Wars was the same game as Ragtag. When EA Vancouver took over, it rebooted this Star Wars project entirely, keeping some of the art assets but transforming it into an open-world game.

It’s not clear what EA Vancouver’s next new game will be. We’ve heard it might be a different Star Wars project. Respawn, the Los Angeles-based studio responsible for Titanfall, is also making a Star Wars game, called Jedi: Fallen Order. That game is currently scheduled for fall 2019.

So true. EA big wigs do not have a good pulse on the market. They dropped the linear, off line story game because they said the market doesn’t do well enough with those types of games. Then God of War sells over 3 million games in 3 days in one console. Detroit did well and there is clear evidence that a good, linear game will sell very well. Open world games obviously sell well too without needing an online component. Look at Spiderman. AC Odyssey I think sold well.

EA needs to stop making all their decisions on how they can suck micro transaction money out of people and just make a good game period.

While I have no desire to play it Anthem only has cosmetic micro-transactions and is supposed to be the next big thing for them. They took an ass-eating for the SW Battlefront 2 disaster. They will tread lightly in that department outside of card thingies for sports games because enough sports gamers are obviously content with ponying up for those card packs. NBA 2K series is the biggest offender of them all and it has not affected their sales.

I've already got Anthem pre-ordered from them but if we like the demo I will likely buy it digitally so the kids and I can play together.

I'm not sure I care for how the cockpit looks in Ace Combat 7. It's a very busy screen. I may wait for reviews on this game before pulling the trigger. Might put the games towards a Division 2 pre-order.

I was really upset to hear this. I was pumped for open world star wars. Typical EA...

I really want to pick up Ace Combat. My order is sitting at EB Games. Couldn’t pick it up yesterday and now we have snow all day. May not make the 30+ minute drive into the city in this junk. First time I have to shovel this year. A near record!

I got a chance to fire up Ace Combat last night. Made it through the first 7 missions I believe. At the start of either mission 8 or 9. I'm really having fun with it. It's nice to finally be back in a damn cockpit and firing missles and bullets at planes while making high-G turns.

This is the first air combat game I've played since Hawx and Hawx 2 on the Xbox 360 probably 10 years ago.

What new Star Wars EA game? My kids were thoroughly bored and uninterested in SW2. They barely played it after liking the first one. I really enjoyed the air combat in the first game but it sucked hard in 2. So much slower and no fun.

I wish EA hadn’t cancelled their Henig SW project.

I'm going to go through more of the offline missions first before jumping into the online stuff again. I just learned how to do a high-G turn (both L2 and R2) in chapter 2.

This game is not a pure arcade flying fighter. Definitely tough to master. We shall see how good OR bad I get at this. What planes do you like best for aerial dog fighting? I haven't bought any other plane. I don't like the layouts/UI for this game. Feels out-dated and odd.

So far I'm at the beginning of mission 15. The plane I've used the most is the F/A-18F, which I've used in 5 missions.

I've used the A-10C Warthog 3 times in ground heavy or focused missions. And then I've used the F-4E, the F-14D and the F-16C two times each.

My new dog fighting plane going forward, which I just unlocked last night, the F-35C.

For early planes, the F-16C isn't bad, it's got good speed and a 4 Target Air-to-Air Missile for it's special weapon.

The F-14D is even better, better speed, better mobility, it has the Long-Range Air-to-Air Missile and the 8 Target Air-to-Air Missile.

The F/A-18F is probably your best fighter early on until you can get enough MRP to unlock the best planes. It has good speed, good defense, it has the Quick Maneuver Air-to-Air Missile which does great in dog fighting. It also has the Long-Range Air-to-Ship Missile for the couple missions with sea based enemies.

The A-10C Warthog, obviously, is your best ground attack plane you're gonna get. You can choose between Unguided Bombs, Rocket Launcher or 4 Target Air-to-Ground Missile. I like the 4AGM.

When you finally have enough MRP (it took me until after mission 14 to unlock it), the F-35C will blow all the other planes away, including the A-10C. Damn good speed, mobility, defense and great for both air and ground attacks. It comes with two ground based special weapons and a 4 Target Air-to-Air Missile special weapons.

Once I have the 999,000 MRP required, I'm buying the Multipurpose Stealth Coating , which will then unlock and allow me to buy the best plane in the game, the F-22A Raptor. Fast as fuck, incredible mobility, great defense, best Air-to-Air rating and a good Air-to-Ground rating. 136 normal missiles and the Quick Maneuver Air-to-Air Missile special weapon.

Woo! Pancakes has got himself an F-22A Raptor! Just unlocked it moments ago. One of the two best planes in the entire game, tied for best based on stats with the Su-57. With parts and their associated bonuses, this baby packs 156 standard missiles and 18 Quick Maneuver Air-to-Air Missiles.

Meanwhile, I'm just about to begin mission 18. There's a total of 20 campaign missions, so into the final 3 and the campaign will be beaten. I'm planning on finishing off these last three missions, then I'll dip my feet into the multiplayer waters before going back through the campaign on the next difficulty level.

And the campaign has been beaten. I plowed through the last couple missions last night, wanting to see what happened next. Mission 19, holy shit was insanity! I LOVE the massive chaotic battles like that! Pure 100% dogfighting with literally dozens of enemy planes. It was something like 50 on 50, then you add in drones later in the mission and it just becomes a massive shitshow of planes everywhere you look. :D

As soon as I get home from work, I'm jumping back on and replaying Mission 19 just because of how goddamn fun it is!

I also dipped my feet into the multiplayer waters last night. Played two Battle Royale matches. I got my ass handed to me! Missiles up the ass. But I still had fun. And it's a great source of MRP, even if you suck, you still pull in a good amount of MRP for each 5 minute match. Makes getting those high priced planes easier.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) will release its financial results for the third fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2018 after the close of market on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. In conjunction with this release, EA will host a conference call to review its financial results for the third quarter, discuss its outlook for the future and may disclose other material developments affecting its business and/or financial performance.

Not sure what news may come out of this. Perhaps some news on if they are keeping/renewing the NBA license? It could be too early for that news.

Looking forward to Trials Rising but betas have not been too kind to the game so far. I am holding out for the game to release, Ubisoft release games are buggy enough for me. ;)

The Switch version though, yikes. N64 levels of fog (dust) are back again. Plus if you do not have the Pro controller you don't have analog triggers which is a killer for this game, plus reports of less than 30fps to boot.

This would make a terrific find the differences game. You could spend half an hour with all the background items they removed on the Switch version.

I'll be damned. I went to download and install the open beta for The Division 2 and found out I had finally run out of hard drive space. For the first time since I bought it in late 2016, my 5 TB external drive was full. 147 games and 22 apps installed.

:D Yeah, I found quite a few I had forgotten about. Some old PS Plus games, as well as old versions of sports games that I had bought newer versions of.

EA has laid off 350 employees, approximately 4% of their workforce. The cuts came in their marketing, publishing, and operations teams. One has to wonder if or when there will be a cut among development teams/studios.

Electronic Arts is laying off 350 people from its marketing, publishing, and operations teams in a move to addresses challenges that reflect the changing landscape of games. This news was shared by Andrew Wilson, Electronic Arts' CEO, in a blog posted on the company's website. Wilson also said the company is ramping down on its presence in Japan and Russia as it tries to make an impact in those markets.

"This is a difficult day," Wilson says in the post. "The changes we’re making today will impact about 350 roles in our 9,000-person company. These are important but very hard decisions, and we do not take them lightly. We are friends and colleagues at EA, we appreciate and value everyone’s contributions, and we are doing everything we can to ensure we are looking after our people to help them through this period to find their next opportunity. This is our top priority."
