TCU has to by just crying at all the news. The Big East is going to end up being a Mid Major at this rate.

Yep. Mountain West is becoming very respectable as a major conference, especially now with Boise State in it, and with Fresno State, Hawaii, and Nevada joining next year. TCU seriously jumped the gun. Same for BYU. While I'm sure they'll do fine as an indy, they should have stayed too.

if those two would have stayed (tcu and byu), its almost a sure thing that the mountain west would have gotten an automatic bid.

My thoughts exactly. With Boise State, Hawaii and Nevada all joining, along with BYU, TCU and the rest, even with Utah leaving, that's still a hell of a conference. It was only a matter of time. Granted, with the Big 12 on life support, and about to have the plug pulled, and the Big East potentially headed into intensive care, the Mountain West may still get that automatic bid.

Now if only the NCAA could force them to get a conference logo that actually looked decent. :fp:

I found this odd. It came from a link on the article you posted.

The source said Pittsburgh was one of the Big 12's top options as a replacement for Texas A&M, and that when Pitt announced it was going to the ACC, it "clobbered everything" regarding the Big 12's future.

Pitt would be a horrible fit for the Big 12.

I am starting to like the POD system being discussed for a PAC 16.

Pac16 Pods:

South - Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State
Mountain - Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah
Pacific - California, Stanford, UCLA, USC
Northwest - Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, WSU

The teams will play nine conference games, three divisional games annually plus a rotation of two games from each of the three other divisions. Plus three non conference games.

Pitt was never going to join the Big 12 so that statement is nonsense.

That would work perfectly with the layout of the teams, only thing will be what they use to decide who goes to the championship game each year.

Take it for what it's worth, but rumors are that WVU submitted paperwork to the SEC tonight (http://www.teamspeedkills.com/2011/9/18/2434276/west-virginia-sec-expansion-rumors).

Somewhat surprised by that. The ACC has made more sense for West Virginia geographically. And with WVU being considered the conference favorite a number of years now, and sucking it up during the season and unable to win the conference, it's only going to be worse in the SEC. They're gonna get whooped on each year.

We might be 6-6 for a year or two, but I can guarantee you we will at least contend for our side of the conference in the first 1-3 years that we make the move to the SEC. We aren't going to accept 6-6 seasons in the SEC.

As for Pittsburgh, they'll be lucky to be 6-6 every year in the ACC. Never have a seen a team get more talent on signing day only to watch it dwindle away to nothingness over and over again than Pittsburgh (besides, maybe, Notre Dame). Pittsburgh will just be another whipping boy for the ACC teams to beat up on.

No surprise here. If UConn and someone else bails for the ACC, WVU bails for the SEC, and Texas/Texas Tech/Oklahoma/Oklahoma State bail for the Pac-12, the unwanted leftovers from the Big East and Big 12 are considering merging together.

Big East, Big 12 Discuss Merger (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/6993604/big-east-big-12-talking-possible-merger-report-says)

NEW YORK -- A person involved in the discussions tells The Associated Press that school and conference officials from the Big East and Big 12 have been discussing ways to merge what's left of the two leagues if Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12.

The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk publicly about what is going on behind the scenes, said Monday there has been dialogue between athletic directors and high-level officials in the conference offices.

Syracuse and Pittsburgh have announced they will be leaving the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Texas and Oklahoma are both trying to decide whether to leave the Big 12 for the Pac-12, taking Oklahoma State and Texas Tech with them.

And if the unwanted leftovers combine and get to keep an automatic bid in the BCS, I'm officially calling bullshit. No way those leftover teams are worthy of a guaranteed BCS bid every year.

bdoughty
09-19-2011, 05:08 PM
If they do an automatic bid for the BCS, they might as well call it the annual TCU BCS bid. Will be a good hoops conference.

Ok, I know the WAC is desperate for football teams right now before they disappear completely as a conference. But my God, they seriously went reaching for anyone they could when they added UT-San Antonio. UTSA just lost today 24-21 to Division III McMurry. The same McMurry who lost 82-6 just the week before to Stephen F. Austin. There is no way in hell UTSA is ever going to win a game in the WAC.

Actually the recruiting point of joining Division 1 will bring in better athletes. It'll take 3-5 years but they'll get the necessary guys eventually.

Yeah, it's been no secret they were going to jump ship. Just had to wait on the board of regents to give them the authority. It's been granted, and Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech are long gone. Just depends on how long it takes for official applications to be submitted, approved by the Pac-12, and what needs to be sorted out between the Pac-12 and Texas regarding the Longhorn Network.

Going with the one on the right. Looks like some nice curves but still in good shape, just at the verge of abs showing so not fat and not starving either. Bet she has the best naturally good-looking face of the 3 too.

Brunette is hiding behind glasses, but the chin and smile are hinting at 'mousey' to me, not sold. She has great hair though, excellent for wranglin'. I think the one in the middle is actually kind of ugly, or at least the way her mouth is in the picture. She has the best abs though.

NCAA 12 coach mode dynasty as Maryland: played a game last night at Nebraska...and pillaged their asses to a 77-7 tune. They fumbled on back to back plays, I turned them into TD's, and then Brion Carnes threw a pick six on their next drive. That started the bludgeoning. Hope this isnt an omen for tonight's game since our offense is so amazing(ly shitty), and the defense has been subpar so far this year.

Could the Pirate be coming to FAU? It would be a perfect fit for him, right next to the ocean.Yeah, but that's about as "confirmed" as a fan saying "you know, I'd love for Nick Saban to coach my team next year". Until someone actually contacts one of the coaches, it's all just fairytale. I honestly don't think Leach would coach in the Sun Belt (unless he can't get anyone else to bite) and I don't think Leavitt nor Shannon would have the drive/passion to bring FAU out of the SBC cellar.

bdoughty
10-12-2011, 04:19 PM
The thing with Leach is that he loves Florida and fishing. That could make up for taking a step back in quality of school. He is crazy enough to look at it as a challenge to take a team from such a small school to new heights. Texas Tech was a descent team when he became coach but nobody ever expected Texas Tech to hold the #2 spot in the nation, late in the season (of course OU took care of that). He was a good enough recruiter to get the kind of kids he needed to play his system. He did so recruiting people to Lubbock, Tx. I was raised in Lubbock and it is a nice town but not the easiest place to recruit kids. FAU has a new stadium and it is Boca Raton.

Much easier to recruit

From an email/news release that Navy's Sports Information department sent out.

Announced in 2009, Army was scheduled to face Rutgers (2011), Air Force (2012) and Boston College (2014) in a trio of games at new Yankee Stadium. The key word there of course, is was.

In a press release, Army announced that their 2012 game against the Falcons in the Bronx has been scrapped and will instead be played at West Point’s Michie Stadium.

The reason given for the decision to ditch Yankee Stadium? ”Concerns regarding a potential scheduling conflict with the 2012 Major League Baseball postseason led to the move,” the release stated.

“This change to our 2012 schedule will provide our fan base with a tremendous slate of games at Michie Stadium next year,” Army athletic director Boo Corrigan said in a statement. “With the strong possibility of a conflict with the Yankees’ postseason schedule, we felt it was in everyone’s best interests to return the game to West Point at this time. While we are excited about our continuing series at Yankee Stadium, our fans look forward to welcoming Air Force to Michie Stadium every other year. Depending on whether Air Force-Army was scheduled for early or late October next year, odds are they're fine. :D The Yankees would be out of the postseason by October 15th at the latest. :D

Shots have been fired, the Texas/A&M game should be interesting.

Someone at both schools is going to need to work on those Fight Songs.

"The Aggie War Hymn"

Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
All hail to dear old Texas A & M,
Rally around the Maroon and White,
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies,
They are the boys who show the real old fight.
That good old Aggie spirit thrills us
And makes us yell and yell and yell;
So let's fight for dear old Texas A & M,
We're goin' beat you all to--
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
Rough! Tough! Real Stuff! Texas A & M!

Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Good-bye to Texas University
So long to the Orange and the White
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys that show the real old fight
"The eyes of Texas are upon you..."
That is the song they sing so well
So good-bye to Texas University
We're going to beat you all to--
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Rough Tough! Real Stuff! Texas A & M!

Saw Varsity's horns off!
Saw Varsity's horns off!
Saw Varsity's horns off!
SHORT! Ay!

Varsity's horns are sawed off!
Varsity's horns are sawed off!
Varsity's horns are sawed off!
SHORT! Ayyyyyy!

"The Spirit of Aggieland"

Some may boast of prowess bold.
Of the schools they think so grand,
But there's a spirit can ne'er be told,
It's the spirit of Aggieland.

We are the Aggies-the Aggies are we,
True to each other as Aggies can be,
We've got to FIGHT, boys,
We've got to FIGHT!
We've got to fight for maroon and white.
After they've boosted all the rest,
They will come and join the best.
For we are the Aggies-the Aggies are we,
We're from Texas A.M.C.

T-E-X-A-S, A-G-G-I-E,
Fight! Fight! Fight-Fight-Fight!
Fight! Maroon! White-White-White!
A-G-G-I-E, Texas! Texas! A-M-C!
Gig'em Aggies! 1! 2! 3!
Farmers Fight! Farmers Fight!
Fight-Fight
Farmers, Farmers, Fight!

"Texas Fight"

Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
And it's goodbye to A&M.
Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
And we'll put over one more win.
Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
For it's Texas that we love best.
Hail, Hail, The gang's all here,
And it's good-bye to all the rest!

(YELL)
Yea Orange! Yea White!
Yea Longhorns! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Texas Fight! Texas Fight,
Yea Texas Fight!
Texas Fight! Texas Fight,
Yea Texas Fight!

The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the livelong day.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
You cannot get away.
Texas Fight, Texas Fight,
For it's Texas that we love best.
Hail, Hail, The gang's all here,
And it good-bye to all the rest!

I've been working on trying to figure out a way to rate CFB Offenses and Defenses. I think I've finally found something tonight. Here's the Top 15s ... let me know what you think. It's going into this week, and it's basically opponent-adjusted-scoring offense/defense. So if a team is ranked highly in scoring defense (Michigan State, UCF), they're going to be ranked highly here.

Top 15 Scoring Offenses
Oklahoma St.
Oregon
Oklahoma
Baylor
Wisconsin
Stanford
Houston
West Virginia
Texas Tech
Georgia Tech
Boise St.
Texas A&M
Utah St.
Cincinnati
Alabama

Top 15 Scoring Defenses
Alabama
Michigan St.
Penn St.
UCF
Wisconsin
Stanford
Temple
LSU
Michigan
Boise St.
Rutgers
Oklahoma
Kansas St.
Virginia Tech
Cincinnati

One piece I'm missing right now, and still trying to think about, is that my current system treats all shutouts equally. Obviously there's a difference between being shutout by Ohio State and shutout by Michigan, and, likewise, shutting out their respective offenses. I think I've got it figured out for any situation where a point is scored ... but not a shutout.

EDIT: Right after posting that, I figured a simple way to look at shutouts. Just add a point to everything. Duh. The only thing it changed is LSU is now the #7 defense (which is still too low for them).

Some rumors coming out of Ohio State. Urban Meyer to take over as HC of the Buckeyes, 7 years, $35 million. Could be announced as soon as a week from Monday. Meyer takes over as HC.....Fickell will be the defensive coordinator with Vrabel as a defensive position coach. Heacock is going to retire and stay on as an adviser. If Ohio State offers Urban Meyer its coaching job, "I'll have a decision to make," the ex-Florida coach said, according to The Gainesville Sun.

There is no offer at present, Meyer, currently a college football analyst at ESPN, told the newspaper.

"I'm in a good place right now mentally and physically. So if something happens with Ohio State, I'll have a decision to make. But there has been no interview. There has been no offer to make a decision about," he said, according to the report.

Well, that has to give Buckeyes fans some hope. He didn't say that he would refuse it without thinking about if officially offered the job.

Oh bullshit. UCLA is in a position because they played a bunch of weak-ass teams. They beat 3-8 Oregon State, 4-7 Washington State, 6-5 Cal, got lucky with a 1 point win over 6-5 Arizona State, and beat 2-10 Colorado.

And I call bullshit on that. Against Texas Tech, he gets injured and the guy behind him (Nick Florence) comes in and doesn't miss a beat. His "skills" have been WAY overhyped all year. The dude has TERRIBLE mechanics throwing the ball and his accuracy is negligible to say the least. The dude plays in an Air Raid offense. Of course his numbers are going to look gaudy and he's going to have a high completion percentage. But, the fact of the matter is this, his numbers AREN'T gaudy looking when compared to other players up for the award. Monte Ball's rushing numbers were RIDICULOUS this year and nearly broke the NCAA record for rushing TDs (set by Barry Sanders - who, btw, won the Heisman that year in an absolute landslide), yet he was an afterthought because ESPN already decided that Griffin was going to win the award.

Just yet another "award" that's just total meaningless bullshit based on hype and other totally bullshit things instead of actually stats on the field and their impact on their team's win. I mean, when the award can be decided simply by him having a good game against a shitty overrated team (Texas) on one weekend, no matter what happened the other weekends, how the fuck is this even still a big thing? It's tainted, just like everything else about college football. It's all a big pile of bullshit.

Yep, Trent Richardson knew his chances were fucked when CBS was talking with all 5 of the guys at halftime of the Army-Navy game. He specifically mentioned the fact that he wasn't playing last week, while you had Mathieu, Ball and RG3 all playing last week, so those players were fresh in the minds of voters, while it had been two weeks since voters had seen him play, so he knew the potential "out of sight, out of mind" mentality might come into play.

JeffHCross

nearly broke the NCAA record for rushing TDs (set by Barry Sanders - who, btw, won the Heisman that year in an absolute landslide)Barry set it in fewer games (12), averaged a full yard per carry better than Ball (7.6 to 6.4), got over 1,100 yards more, and actually had 44 touchdowns in 12 games, 42 of which were rushing. I think Barry could have had half the TDs he did, maybe even less (look at Archie Griffin's 12 in his first Heisman season), and still received the award.

If any "record breaker" was going to get the Heisman this year, I think Keenam is a better candidate than Ball. Ball certainly impressed me this year, but not because he's breaking records.

bullshit overhyped TERRIBLE meaningless bullshit totally bullshit shitty overrated fuck tainted bullshitCouldn't resist ;)

It's not an MVP award. If it was, you'd see guys like Collin Klein up there instead of, for example, Trent Richardson. Griffin's clearly not a runaway winner; you could make arguments for all five to win the award. He took advantage of being on center stage, while others (Andrew Luck) had not.

Mark Richt of Georgia gets in trouble for paying some of his assistants out of pocket as he believed they were underpaid, what's wrong here?I'll be honest ... I can't figure this one out at all. Usually I can figure out from what recess of one's mind that an NCAA restriction makes sense ... but one coach giving another money makes no sense. If it was different teams, involved players, involved non-staff members ... all of that would make sense. But money being given from one professional to another makes no sense. Hell, even Georgia not being in favor of it would actually make sense (to avoid some appearance of impropriety), but where the NCAA would have a problem with it? Good grief, beats me.

Just goes to reinforce the theory I floated out there this summer (which got quickly shot down) about every coach being guilty of something. Not because they're actually guilty or because they did anything legitimately wrong, but because the NCAA rules are so asinine that I can't fathom how anyone can avoid them (if you include secondary violations).

I'm just waiting for the self-imposed sanctions because a coach was seen rolling through a stop sign on campus. :smh:

The NCAA is a joke.

Ignores the cheating, punishes the do-good types.

As long as it can make them money and keep product on the field, the NCAA will conveniently look the other way.

At least they put a sanction on Tressel, so basically he's unhirable for 5 years.

That's what they need to do, sanction the coaches, AD's, staff to where they're unhirable and don't punish players that had nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, South Carolina picks up LSU and has to play Arkansas from the West. UGA fans might as well start making reservations for Atlanta already. It is very strange to me that there aren't bowl games on 1/1. Long gone are the memorable days of my childhood.May have to re-think that. Even in our childhoods, the games were played on January 2 when the first was a Sunday. Example: 1978 Rose Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978_Rose_Bowl), 1984 Orange Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_Orange_Bowl), 1989 Sugar Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Sugar_Bowl).

It always amused me that the old NCAA Football games, back when they had the "Pennants", had the wrong date for the 1984 Orange Bowl.

Seen a poll on ESPN (Sportsnation) that asks Who is more deserving of a shot at the national title?

Oklahoma State - 60%

Alabama - 40%

Why do people feel that way? Is it because nobody wants to watch Alabama and LSU play again? Or does the majority feel it would be a better game?

Bama's only loss came against the still #1 team in a close game at that. Okie State's only loss came against a 6-7 team. Oklahoma State is the "sexier" of the two I get that but I honestly don't know what else.

I don't really follow CFB that strongly, I mean I watch it but its nothing in comparison of how I follow the NFL.

I'm not going to rehash EVERYTHING that was posted in the bowl breakdown thread, but, short story, Oklahoma State played in the best conference this year (FACT: Big 12, including bowl games so far, has lost THREE out of conference games all year) and won the conference fair and square, all the while, playing a tough overall schedule, than that of Alabama. Hard to argue for Alabama being there in my opinion. It's straight up SEC biased bullshit.

Auburn Tigers RB Michael Dyer Filing Paperwork at Arkansas State (http://www.nationalfootballauthority.com/2012/01/auburn-tigers-rb-michael-dyer-filing.html)

The many rumors of a possible transfer by Auburn running back Michael Dyer to join new Arkansas State Red Wolves head coach Gus Malzahn appear to have some truth to them.
National Football Authority has learned that Dyer, a sophomore All SEC running back at Auburn this season, filed paperwork this afternoon to enroll at Arkansas State University. The rumors started swirling recently after tweets from two Arkansas State players (http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/01/mike_dyer_still_deep_in_auburn.html) suggested Auburn's rushing leader from the 2011 season was ready to make a move after falling out of grace with the Tigers as a result of his bowl game suspension.

It has been said that Dyer may request a medical hardship so that he can still play in the upcoming season and be near family that is ill. That however is purely speculation and has not been confirmed as of yet.

National Football Authority college football writer Lisa Turner is following this story and will provide you with more details and sources confirming what we have learned.

Dyer rushed for 1,242 yards on 242 attempts with 10 touchdowns in the 2011 season.

Alshon Jeffery, Stephon Gilmore declare for NFL Draft

South Carolina junior wide receiver Alshon Jeffery said Thursday that he is declaring for the NFL draft.

South Carolina junior cornerback Stephon Gilmore also will enter the draft, a source said Thursday. Gilmore had an interception and five tackles in the Gamecocks' 30-13 victory over Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.

The 6-foot-4, 229-pound Jeffery had 49 catches for 762 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He is rated 25th overall and the third-rated receiver according to ESPN Scouts Inc.

"I'm ready for the next step. I'm physical and can make plays in the red zone. I can make big plays in big games. I can work on my speed and get quicker. I want to be like (NFL receivers) Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson," Jeffery told ESPN.com on Thursday.

Earlier on Twitter, Jeffery tweeted, in part, "I would like to thank the fans, my teammates , coach spurrier and everyone involved for all the opportunities south Carolina has provided me, I am proud to say I will always be a gamecock."

Neither Jeffery nor Gilmore have retained an agent, sources told ESPN.com's Chris Low. Not having representation gives the players the right to change their minds by Jan. 14 in order to return to school. The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft is Jan. 15.

NEITHER team has a QB to speak of. What an absolutely ATROCIOUS end to the season. SO glad I didn't watch that shit.

sec defenses are given too much credit because of the horrendous quarterback play in the sec. the defenses are still pretty good, but no quarterback in the sec is even close to the levels of andrew luck and matt barkley.

I dont agree at all..the Alabama QB did throw forward passes for completions and thats what won the game..he gave them field position..The LSU guy was a receiver playing under center LOL

Defense wins championships.

That is the only redeeming thing about last night's game.

LOLOL no, the more appropriate adage is poor offense loses championships LOL

Russell Wilson smartly chose a NFL football career over a MLB career with the Colorado Rockies.

Not sure on Smooth's reasoning but I think he's a putz. He inked a deal with the Rockies, THEN decided to play football one more year, was allowed to keep his signing bonus and now he says he's entering the NFL draft.

For me, it's just because that was a wasted draft pick by the Rockies now.

Being a Rockies fan?

I agree and kind of my point. He lead the Rockies to believe he was going to play baseball and took their money and now is going to the NFL.

Yeah, it's basically a two way hate. He decides to go NFL instead of baseball, resulting in that pick that the Rockies used on him a waste, and then he screws them over by taking the money and bolting for the NFL.

The baseball draft is like 90 rounds, I'm sure a couple are wasted. ;)

True, but they took Wilson with their 4th round pick. I can guarantee there were some good, future MLB roster, players they could have still taken in the 4th round over Wilson

Damn you to hell Russell Wilson! :bang:My favorite part of it is that he's going to train with Chris Weinke. Hmm. Wonder if those two have anything in common. Get Brandon Weeden and you can have an entire offseason of nothing but "why football over baseball" discussions.

A status one of my friends just made on Facebook.

Sounds like a pretty fitting nickname to me.

At one point he was like "There's the Honey Badger and he has that dyed blonde hair MMMM." I made a comment saying he sounded like he wanted to rape him and everyone busted out laughing...I wish I had Musberger recorded

The SEC has a few good QB's...LSU's is just horrible and they spit on the guy who started their season off right and who could actually throw. From an LSU friend Jordan Jefferson checked from a pass to run at least 17 times...so he was scared/rattled. For proof just look at the INT pitch he did, WIDE OPEN to run and he hesitates and makes a dumb move for an INT then looks at his RB like it's his fault. The RB seen you had space to run and went to throw u a block and u just pitch it 4 yards forward. Him running could have beat the ball in the air 5 yards lmao....

AustinWolv

The problem with putting in Lee at QB was that he had previously thrown 1 TD vs something like 7 INTS in games against Bama or ranked teams or something like that.

WTF why? He hasn't shown he can be a good throwing qb.

WTF why? He hasn't shown he can be a good throwing qb.that was my reaction at first. but maybe he feels that his stock is already at its peak and another year at whoregon wont improve it.

i've also heard slight rumors that there would have been a qb battle next year, with the current backup (who's faster and has a better arm). maybe that's something he didnt want?

JeffHCross

WTF why? He hasn't shown he can be a good throwing qb.Personal opinion, but he's shown about as much as Cam Newton had last year ...

DariusLock
01-16-2012, 08:23 AM
Cam had a much stronger arm and was a beast, Darron Thomas can't carry that team and he has more playmakers than Cam did.

JeffHCross
01-16-2012, 08:20 PM
I was solely talking about "good throwing QB". Cam has a strong arm, but I still didn't expect him to perform the way he did this year. Was expecting him to be more like Tebow than he has been.

The self-admitted way too early top 25 poll for the 2012 college football season. (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7440553/college-football-way-too-early-2012-top-25)

I'd actually go with USC at #1 right now.
