Northwestern ended the 2010 season with a 10-3 record after their Gator Bowl Bowl win over the Tennessee Volunteers 24-14. The Volunteers had just missed out on a chance at a BCS game by losing to LSU in the SEC Title game.

The 2010 season saw Northwestern garner big wins over Iowa and Penn State, but also suffer losses to Eastern Michigan (before I took them over) and Wisconsin. The last two thirds of the year saw the Wildcats rip off seven wins in a row to climb as high as number 21 in the polls.

Northwestern was led by a balanced attack on offense. This attack saw starting tailback Arby Fields top the 1000 rushing yard mark, as well as WR Sidney Stewart and TE Drake Dunsmore each topping the 1000 receiving yards mark. Quarterback play was at times erratic for the Cats as they saw starter Dan Persa go down for the season in a win against Penn State, which meant back up Evan Watkins had to step in and lead the team. All he managed to do was go 6-1, including wins over Penn State, Iowa and Tennessee.

Defensively the Wildcats struggled through much of the year as they allowed a ton of points and a ton of yards, but fortunately for them this seldom led to a loss.

In an unprecedented move, the Indiana coach took the Michigan coaching job several games into the season. Michigan's offense and defense both instantly responded, driving towards a season record of 10-3 with a bowl win over the Washington Huskies and a noted big win over rival OSU.
