Rough Riders Fall 30-7 to Lobos

It wasn't a pretty start to Coach Larry Davis' first game as NWNSU's head coach. The Rough Riders struggled to move the ball at all in their first game in school history. Early in the 3rd quarter it looked like QB Garin Larson was about to start a rally for the Riders, trailing 20-0. But it didn't happen as Larson took an option keeper, fumbled and was knocked out of the game. NWNSU couldn't get anything going until the final quarter when backup QB Brent Lamb hooked up with TE David Herring for a 22yd TD pass, but by then the game was pretty much over.

NWNSU hangs on for 1st win school history

Through 3 quarters, it seemed like everything was going right for the Rough Riders, Garin Larson threw a 73yd TD pass in the first quarter, followed by a run on the option keeper for 14 yards. That changed in the 4th when Ball State went into rally mode and scored 12 unanswered points to be down 17-12. The NWNSU defense toughened up when it mattered and sacked the BSU QB on 4th down with 20 seconds left. Larson then lined up in the victory formation to seal win #1 for Northwest Nebraska State.

#8 Nebraska Beats Down Rough Riders

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/HuskerFan/NCAA11/NWNSU-NU-2010.jpg

NWNSU was able to muster 1 TD against the Mighty Huskers, which was the surprising stat of the day. The Rough Riders were said to have no chance in the game by most of the talking heads, saying that NWNSU would be lucky to get in field goal range. They proved the analysts wrong as they got into the Husker redzone twice on the day, going for it on 4th down the first time and Larson running an option the second time, leading to a Rough Rider TD.

Nebraska had it in for the Rough Riders early, jumping to a 28-0 margin. The Rough Riders' defense toughen up in the 2nd quarter, keeping the Huskers off the board. Knowing the game was at hand, Coach Pelini reigned in the offense a bit, which scored a combined 17 points in the 2nd half. The Husker defense held NWNSU to 52 yards rushing and 151 yards passing.

Larson pitch to Ellison for the Rough Riders only score on the day - 35 yard TD
