View Full Version : The Division 2
More info (and presumably release date) coming at E3.

Ubisoft has posted a content release schedule for the original The Division and it goes through September of this year.
Keep in mind Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming October 26. COD: BO 4 has announced a 10/12 release. I would think other titles are working to get out ahead of RDR 2 or else go way later. Competing too close to that date equals a death sentence IMO.

Kotaku has an article with some more stuff.
https://kotaku.com/the-division-2-feels-like-an-apology-to-those-burned-by-1826743075
Some of the highlights:
“Our end-game for The Division is going to be an accessible, deep and varied gear game,” he said.
“Of course we can experience the whole game in solo. But it really starts shining when you play with a group of players.
“We want the activities to always be rewarding. So we will always acknowledge the time that you spent on an activity and will reward you accordingly. Those activities will have clear goals.
“We want you to be able to identify what activities you should jump in in order to progress as you want.
“The endgame, people sometimes think is just for hardcore players, but we’re committed to deliver on day one content for all of our players.
“And when you complete the content we’re saving an inventory slot for you to be able to showcase your greatest feats in the games to other players.”
The big sequel, slated for release next March, moves the series storyline ahead seven months, from the winter in New York City right after a chemical weapons attack in New York City to the summer in Washington D.C. It’s hot and the city is both battered by factional strife and wracked by bad weather. Some parts are overgrown with vegetation while a heat wave smears the city.
“There’s blistering hot east coast weather, I mean, come on,” Terry Spier, one of the game’s creative directors atRed Storm Entertainment told me. “Storms. Lightning. Thunder. Rain.” That’s all in there? “Oh yeah!”
The map is bigger than the first game’s by about 20 percent according to El-Zibaoui. He said the game will have several types of environments or biomes—commercial areas and residential areas like the first game had but also overgrown jungle-like areas, governmental areas, the suburbs of Georgetown, the Washington Mall.
“It’s an almost one-to-one recreation of a city using real data,” El-Zibaoui said. “If you know the city, you’ll be able to find your bearings.”
Civilians are more than the shuffling survivors asking for bottles of water that they were in the first game. The Division 2’s D.C. appears to be filled with civilian encampments and the player is apparently encouraged to help them. “The living world is a big aspect of it,” Spier said. “ There are settlements of civilians and they all have needs. As you assist them, as they progress toward recovery you’ll see that represented in the world, their recovery.” Would structures change? “You will definitely see changes in the world,” he said, going no further.
The game’s E3 demo is set up in an area near the crashed Air Force One. That zone is considered a “control point,” an area enemies will initially hold but that can be seized by players. As players do that, civilians will come in to assist. If a special civilian survives then they take up position and request supplies. Give them supplies and that somehow affects the rebuilding. A glimpse of the game at Sunday’s Xbox press conference included a mention of “theater resources,” but Spier didn’t want to elaborate on that or anything else players might be rebuilding.
Control points that players free for civilians can still be overrun by enemies again, shades of those bases in Far Cry that players could never quite keep cleared. Could that be frustrating? “The impact of what happens will vary based on the activity,” he said. “You will see lasting changes based on your actions, and in some cases those changes can be reverted by the enemy factions.”
The first game’s excellent, free 1.8 update late last year introduced a new way for PvE to work in that game, generating new missions for solo players repeatedly to keep them entertained. It seemed like a preview of what was to come and Spier confirmed that it would carry into the new game. “If PvE is your focus, there’s going to be a lot of that dynamic happening in the whole world.”
“The goal is definitely to unite,” Spier said. “And build D.C.. We’re working hard to make sure that factions feel like enemies and good guys feel like good guys and bring everybody together and bring this sort of tyranny these factions are holding over D.C.—they’re all locked in a power struggle, because they all want it. You’ll be able to feel that.
Anybody else get into the beta? It's still downloading here but I'm looking forward to playing it later.
Here is a blog talking about building DC in the game (https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/02/07/the-division-2-the-full-scale-construction-and-destruction-of-a-city/?fbclid=IwAR1UguACqY1FFGotSKiiEycM06emg2Q66pNbJABx Ne4-_59Y2nhNmpZDrec).
Downloaded it but I feel like I'm chasing my tail trying to sign into Ubisoft to get the friend passes. Constantly being redirected and then re-logging in. Not a good setup at all.
Jaymo and Smooth, I sent you beta codes via Ubisoft friends. Have you tried this yet? I haven’t but may try it later. More for my son.

Sweet, thanks man! I honestly wasn't even expecting to receive a code or get into the beta. But I'll definitely download it and get some play time in! I loved the first The Division and without even having touched 2 yet, I'm already planning on pre-ordering it here in the next week or two. Definitely a day one game for me.

Sorry. Been away most of the day. Yo should have received an email I think. Or log into Ubisoft and check your account management.
It was a pain for me to even find it on the Ubisoft website since it wasn’t working right. I had to select desktop option from my iPad to see it since the mobile page wasn’t working.

Yeah, I can't find it anywhere. I checked through the Ubisoft Club app, got on my laptop and actually looked through account, messages and friends info on the Ubisoft website, and nothing on my email.
At this point, it's too late for me to bother anyways. From what I saw, the beta was only from the 7th through the 10th (today), so by the time I got the beta downloaded (assuming I ever found the code), I'd get maybe a couple hours of play time, if I'm lucky.

Sorry. The Ubisoft website has been terrible at times too. It was a real pain to login and figure out some stuff. Way more difficult than it had to be. I hate it when you have to get a third party website code to then activate the PS4 code.

It's all good, I wasn't really too concerned with playing the beta. I already know I'm going to be pre-ordering and buying The Division 2 since I loved and played the hell out of the first The Division, I just haven't gotten around to actually making the purchase yet.

Amazon Canada had the pre order for $20 off so I got the beta code with it.

Even though it'd be expensive as hell, I'm considering getting it for both systems.
I've been pretty much 100% PS4 on system choice for game purchases the last two or three years, but between some of you guys buying it for Xbox One, plus I ran with a fun as hell group of guys from OS on the Xbox One in the first game that I would love to revive some late night Dark Zone sessions with, I'm really leaning towards biting the bullet and getting it on both and alternate which system I play on depending on who's on each night.

PS4 here. I don't think I played with others at all in D1. Hoping to change that with D2.It's a lot of fun running with a group. Some of the most fun I had was attempting Russian Consulate or Warren Power Plant on Challenging difficulty with a group of guys from OS. It was guaranteed gut busting laughter the entire time.
The Dark Zone was also fun as a group. Either running all four together or split up into groups of two and bait others into attacking us. Look like two guys lost in the map, get someone cocky to attack us and the other two come running from nearby cover and next thing those people know, they're getting fucked up and slaughtered for four of us. :D
I also had one magical night in Dark Zone 6, the highest level DZ (at the time), our group of four ran into another group of four, plus two other of their friends. So we had 10 of us running around as a massive group. We fucking owned the Dark Zone that night. We ran that bitch with an iron fist and anyone who attacked us or got in our way was quickly destroyed.

Well shit, I may have to wait on this instead of getting it day one. Going to need to get about $600 worth of car work done in the near future, and since I have a trip to Cleveland coming up later this month, I'm more likely to get the work done now rather than waiting, especially since it involves the front struts and lower ball joints, which if those break while going 70+ MPH down the interstate, could be bad.
So, I may end up putting off buying this for a month.

Never played it. I had it preloaded for days (clicked on it and it was not the demo and asked if I wanted to go to the store for the release date). Then it had an update for the game and it happened to be the exact same file size. Ubi needs to get their shit together or I should be smart enough to wait until the game and a few patches are under their belt. Trials Rising (a Ubisoft published game) and it's glaring UI issues and torturous leveling did not help things. Great tracks but they unlock at a snails pace and you are forced to replay the same track with different bikes and 50,000 backflips to progress.
Also I was one of the idiots that was standing in line doing jumping-jacks when the Division came out.

Only at level 2 but enjoying it so far. If you liked the Division, this is more of the same. I was getting ready to do the first big mission when, "Servers down for maintenance in 30 minutes." :bang: Wish these games would offer the ability to keep playing in single player, cutting off all the online stuff during this time. They did get the loot right in this game. Loot and materials are everywhere. In the original certain items were a chore to obtain but they have definitely alleviated that so far.
My only real gripe is playing in the dark absolutely sucks. You still have no flashlight or light as a weapon attachment option. In the snow it was something that rarely bothered me because the lighting/snow just worked. In the hour or so I played I had it go dark twice and spent half the time trying to figure out if something was a wall or an entrance to a building/alley. I can always crank up the brightness but that kinda defeats the purpose. Just needs a small light source around your character. To make sure I wasn't going crazy I checked Reddit and it was on of the top requests for the game so hopefully they can figure something out.
Also not a fan of the new, "Call for assistance feature." Had to turn that feature off as I was constantly bombarded with messages of player seeking assistance.

It was 1:30am this morning before this finally finished downloading for me. I played for a little bit, got to The Theater and just got assigned the mission to head to the Grand Washington Hotel. Currently level 2, a little under halfway to level 3.
I agree about the loot. I found a TON of weapon and gear chests, simply just exploring random alleys and walking into buildings that you can enter. There are far more gear and weapon chests than I remember the first game having.
Right now I'm on PS4, but hoping to also get this for Xbox One towards the end of the month or early April since some of my old crew from OS that I used to run with on the Xbox One were getting this for Xbox One again. I'm thinking making PS4 my solo game (except for when I enter the darkzone, then I'll try to team up) and making Xbox One my co-op game.

Even when playing in a dark room last night I was having issues. I played the Hotel mission with the early morning light coming in and navigating a couple areas inside the hotel were near impossible. Have not run into rain and fog so far and not looking forward to it outside of the daytime.
I am excited to start playing with the drones, currently have the turret. Sadly the Sticky Bomb is not in the game. This was the best skill upgrade in the first game. Just walk up to 3 enemies in the street, target area and they are toast. You will be missed Sticky Bomb.

Yeah, I had some fun in parts of the hotel this morning while completing the mission in the daylight in real life.
That really sucks about the Sticky Bomb. I lived and died by that destructive little fucker in the first game. Like you said, shoot it right in the middle of a group of enemies and bam, they're all dead, especially with my character set up that maximized the sticky bomb range and damage and made it essentially a one shot kill on anyone but the toughest named bosses.
That was my and my group's safety net when we would team up and do missions on challenging difficulty or go into the dark zone. Each time we'd hit a new wave of enemies, I'd fire that thing off and disintegrate half the wave in a mere second. Or in the dark zone, if we would come under attack (or if we were crouched and ready to trap some unsuspecting victim :D) , I'd fire off the sticky bomb and fuck up their world before they even knew what was happening. Then it was just a matter of mopping up the survivors.

I'm enjoying how they have things set up around the map this time. Instead of nothing but missions and random groups of enemies in between, you have to attack control points and enemy territory to "take over" the district. I've been busy kicking ass around the White House and Downtown East.
Then you have smaller activities like public executions to stop, propaganda broadcasts through hijacked speaker systems to stop. Probably some other stuff I haven't discovered yet. I'm actually enjoying these changes. And the Control Points are worth it with the supply caches you get access to after securing them. Guaranteed 1-2 guns and 1-2 gear every control point, and some of it has been pretty damn good stuff.

Ditto on all the new stuff. One thing I really did not like was the civilians in the original. They just wanted food in return for ugly scarves. In this game they serve a purpose.

03-16-2019, 05:47 PM
Yeah, it's been nice, actually coming across roving patrols of civilians out securing sections of the district or out scavenging food. They've helped in quite a few firefights, whereas I was largely by myself in the first game if there wasn't a JTF patrol nearby, which there usually wasn't.
What I'm wondering, can the enemy factions take the control points back? Like will they eventually attack and try to recapture a control point that I had attacked and taken from them? That'd be kind of sweet, being able to essentially play attack and defend with some different control points to keep a firm grip on the various districts.

I was looking at the reviews, all mostly positive and I came across a site I had not seen in forever. Cheat Code Central. I used to use that site when cheats were an actual thing. Now I post this to see if you can understand how exactly the final score was tabulated (It say not an average but...WTF?) Also the review is light on review and more on agenda, sadly something we are seeing more and more from gaming media. Actual quotes from the review.
The Division 2 doubles down on that in a way that makes the whole experience feel like violent right wing survivalist porn.
I found myself going though mission after mission without finding a single piece of equipment that was exciting to find.
Loot trickles in at a snail’s pace, and it almost never feels like you’re doing as much damage as you should as you level up.

Yeah, definitely trying to shoehorn an agenda into their review. Who gives a shit about left wing/right wing when it comes to video games? This is about surviving essentially the apocalypse via contagion pandemic. Which, I honestly believe, if the contagion of the Division series was a real thing and cities and countries and civilization really were essentially destroyed like we see in the game, I 100% would expect to see what we see in the game happen in real life. You'll have your military and aid organizations trying to keep order, but you're also going to see your gangs and newly created groups of asshats trying to rule things how they want to and fighting over territory and resources and people.
It might not be so doom and gloom in the tiny farming communities and smaller towns of the Midwest or south or something, but major cities like New York City and Washington, DC would be fucking war zones, no matter how many military or national guard units may be around.
If they're calling this game essentially a right wing circle jerk, I wonder what they think of games like The Last of Us, Far Cry, GTA, Dying Light, etc are. Or movies like the Purge series for instance. I bet those movies really triggers them. :D

Seriously, the first game, loot could be sort of hard to come by, pretty much your best chance of upgrading your weapons and equipment were by completing the various missions and side missions and defeating named bosses. Here, like you said, you can't go 20 feet without running into a loot box. I'd almost go so far as to say that they overdid the loot boxes, lol.
But other than maybe one decent gear piece from the Washington Hotel mission, every weapon and gear piece I'm currently wearing and using have come from random loot boxes I've found around the map or from completing control points. And that includes a couple blue specialized quality gear items.
Plus you get a free loot chest every time you level up, which certainly wasn't the case in the first game. That reviewer either hasn't played the game at all, isn't playing it correctly, is an idiot, or has a vendetta against the game for some reason and just wants to make shit up so they can bash it.

It does almost feel like too much loot. Of course some of the consumables are more abundant due to needing to share them, which is fine by me as it adds another layer to bases, control points, etc.
Darkness is still kicking my ass harder than the AI. Dark buildings are the worst. I have died multiple times from the rushers due to rolling into unseen objects. Not to mention that the players melee is horrible.

Yeah, it almost feels like they went the other direction, instead of making loot a bit on the rare side in the first game, they just plastered the map with loot containers. I've maxed out my inventory a couple times already in only 10 hours of gameplay, just because I keep finding so many weapons and gear from supply caches.
And I do like what they did with consumables. I never used water or food or anything in the first game, so it was always full in my inventory and resulting in a lot of stuff unable to be picked up around the map because I had no more space for it. Now I can contribute that stuff towards control points and actually put it to use. I'm still wondering if the enemy factions ever attempt to attack and reclaim control points or if it's permanently in friendly control after I capture it.
I agree about night. There were some sections even last night at 1am I was struggling. I may have to bump the brightness up a notch or two.
Also, I don't know, maybe it's just me, but some of these bosses and enemies are more dangerous this game than the first. The only time I ever worried about dying in the first game was going up against elite named bosses. But so far, I've died a couple times trying to swipe some enemy resupply crates and even once or twice running into a group of four or five enemies in the middle of the street. Trying to kill the rushers, while avoiding the very accurate grenades and hide from the gunfire of the others, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Especially as these fuckers will try and flank you very quickly.
I claimed East Downtown last night, completed the checklist at the safe house and unlocked the district boss, Meatwagon or whatever the hell his name was. Of course he had to spawn right now an enemy event, so I not only am trying to kill this elite named boss, I'm also trying to kill about 7 or 8 other regular enemies, including a purple bar enemy or two. Fuck that was hard. I had to fall back about a block and a half, fire at them, maybe kill one or two, run backwards to new cover, restore my shield, kill one or two more, run backwards some more to keep space between them and me.
This definitely feels like a more difficult game to play solo compared to the first game.

Really good video to explain it and I even learned that those storage rooms restock every 24 hours (outside of the big yellow box). More loot! From everything I have read you do not lose control points during the main game (though even this is conflicting with some things I have read). End game on the other hand...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OeIzuQrnNs
The game is far more difficult to me. Primarily due to multiple rushers and of course stupid darkness everywhere. The bosses do seem to be a little more mobile which definitely makes things more difficult when he has a few minions running around. There is a skill that you should consider which can help. Hive Reviver. As long as it is not in cooldown, the Reviver will automatically revive you when you go down. Even when you are in a group. Does not work in the DZ though.
After learning about certain perks a few other things I did not know, I will be restarting my character (was only on lvl 5). Also just purchased the season one pass because the game really does kick ass and I will be playing it for quite some time.

Alright, I'll have to give that a watch when I get a chance. And I'm in good shape then, I have Hive Restorer unlocked right now, so I can heal myself when I start to get overwhelmed in battle, but I'll make Hive Reviver my next unlock when I collect enough SHD Tech.
And yes, the enemies are far more mobile and tougher. Between the rushers, the gunners and grenadiers moving around and trying to flank you instead of just hiding behind cover. Bosses will continue to move to get open shots and angles at you. And instead of just chucking a grenade at you, those one enemies apparently have a noob tube or grenade launcher, so they can shoot those fuckers long distance and accurately too! I have yet to complete a main mission or side mission where I haven't died at least once. Playing together with at least one other person, if not a full team, is definitely recommended for this game.
As for me, I'm currently on level 8. I'm pretty happy with my equipment (and their perks), as well as my perks, so I'm good where I'm at so far. Definitely some stuff that I have learned and will approach a bit differently when I buy the game for Xbox One sometime in the next couple weeks and start with a new character on it.

Back up to lvl 6 with the new character. As much as I liked the Hive Restore the Reviver is a godsend. Unless you are playing with a group you never actually deploy it since it does not restore but it allows me to play differently. Instead of going through all my armor kits when I drop down to the health bar or the last few armor bars are red, I can try play out the scenario if there are only a couple enemies left (thanks to the auto regen of armor when you beat sections of enemies). If they down me, it revives you back up to the 3 red armor bars and health. Then I quickly use the armor kit, as I roll away from what downed me to begin with. Still have died a few times but that is because of the difficulty and if you get trapped and surrounded, you are screwed no matter what. Such is the life of a solo player.
Finally played in the heavy rain/lightning at night and while it looks really nice, damn near unplayable in certain areas. I just ran into a building and waited it out. Found 160 credits worth of junk, plus materials simply going through it and another building. Almost scary to think how much loot I could acquire if I could see in all those dark areas. What was really annoying is there was a picture (collectable) on a second story that I could not find due to the darkness, as the ladder was blacked out and there is no prompt to climb one.
They give us a flashlight and I will have nothing to complain about.

They are currently making a hotfix to deal with some of the skills not working properly. Have not had any problems with either Hive skill but the Turrett would be hit or miss.
Was going with the AR/Marksman combo but with all the rushers in this game I have a newfound love for the LMG. It mows down the runners, I stick to the ones with a 100 clip size as runners tend to come in groups and while not as accurate or having the range of the AR... that is why I have the Marksman or early on the standard rifle variant since Marksmans were non existent for me early on. I also remove the 12x scope from them and have a perk that allows me to replace it with a red dot sight. Same damage, minus a small crit reduction and no annoying scope in scope out transition.

Yeah, I'm rolling with AR/Marksman combo right now. I really don't have any problems with rushers. My AR that I'm using is so fucking stable, I can just sitting there hold the trigger and it will barely, if even at all, sway or recoil. I can mow down two or three rushers with a 31 round magazine before having to reload. If there are any other rushers after that, I just roll away from them and reload.
I'm still trying to adapt to the enemies in this game. The first game, they would just run for cover, hide, take shots at you, maybe two or three would leave cover and approach, but that was largely it. These fuckers in this game however, they will sprint at you, run all different directions and try to flank you. I've died so many times because I'd be going up against 6 or 7 enemies, I'd be focusing on the rushers and the grenade launchers, and would lose track of one or two guys, only to find them nearby with a wide open angle at me or directly behind me. One time, I literally ended up surrounded. I had enemies on every side of me and behind me as they had managed to flank me. I was dead in seconds.

Not only that but the loot comments. Holy cow, I can't walk 20 yards without tripping over something to pick up. Constantly updating my weapons/armor with new items I found. This reviewer did not play the same game I am playing.
I just started playing this Saturday night and IMO it is so much better than the first and I enjoyed that one.
Completely agree on the loot. I find myself wanting to go off the beaten path to find more items. In D1, I never wanted to roam.

And there is so much to do in the game. The Division had plenty of stuff to do but this is a crazy amount. Even the side missions are fairly extensive and fun to play.

More political agenda. Most of the review is less about the game but his disdain of Ubi not jumping heavy into politics and that which was left in catered to the right. Not to mention a lack of enjoying looter shooters. Also another person that did not even delve into the endgame, outside of quips he could have easily found on the internet. At least he saw some loot, although it was apparently an annoyance. :fp:

It’s dotted with reaction-baiting nods to hot topics – there’s mention of “walls” and “swamps” – but it’s reluctant to engage with these parallels in depth. There’s a strong sense that the game is ducking such conversations because it is, in fact, a celebration of weaponised inequality. For some, the US is already a place where harsh social divisions are maintained by violence, where straying into the wrong region as a member of the wrong demographic can get you killed.

Thanks for asking. Personally, we are good as our house is high enough up. Some of our land was under water and some still is.We were stranded at our house for a few days until the water went down to open up the roads. There are a lot of roads still under water and ruined bridges & roads. Basically every road west of Omaha was flooded or had washouts, making travel extremely difficult in the eastern part of the state. Some cities became islands with no way out. I believe every lake housing development in this area had mandatory evacuations and some had to do overnight water rescues to get people out.The cost of repairs is going to be in the hundreds of millions I believe and will take years to recover. I think this flood will end up being worse than what had in 1993 and that one was pretty terrible. Currently, I think I-29 from Council Bluffs south is under water as well causing more travel issues.

I think Kotaku also had a' 'issue' with the opening cinematic asking if people/user 'had a gun' after the police and society crumbled. In a game that is built around shooting guns, finding guns, and upgrading guns, that line was an issue? :fp:
I don't get the demand for inserting politics in this franchise by some. AFAIK, it is all fictional politicians mentioned in the game and they aren't even a primary aspect. The first game came out in March 2016, so if it used real politicians wouldn't it be Obama they need to reference and not Trump?
The game does have some collectibles talking about Mexico building a wall to keep the infection & infected Americans out; couldn't that be construed as inserting politics? I took it as a play or joke against Trump's request for a border wall. That was enough politics for me without going over the top. Even with it located in DC, no one is buying it hoping for political drivel besides some terrible reviewers and sites. If anything, based on community impressions, people seem pretty excited to see DC in ruins and not functioning politically. :D

If you thought that you just have not found enough loot and crafting materials, etc, liberate the Solar Farm control point (located in the Eastern most area of the East Mall area). Make sure you have the perception perk, where all loot glows heavy orange after you make a donation to the control point. In that area I was able to find around 50+ lootable items in under the 10 minutes duration of the perk. 5 or 6 were random weapon cases and the rest were crafting materials and junk to sell. You will see more orange in this area than at a game at Neyland Stadium. That's not even counting the stash you unlock when you take over it.
Just hit Lvl 14 and having a blast. One gripe and this happened in the original, is they seem to push certain weapons out the wazoo depending on your level and if you have used them. Hate shotguns, never use them and every vendor for the last 3 levels only sells shotguns. My loadout has been LMG/Marksman the whole way but there was four levels I never saw a new LMG or one that was worth replacing. Fortunately you can go a few levels with an under leveled gun, assuming it was a high role blue or purple.

Dumb question: I know that you are supposed to visit Control Points daily for these items, but where are they? I went to a few today and couldn't find anything in the Supply/Loot room. Do you have to have the Control Point leader completely stocked or something? Or is this user error (being dumb) on my part? What am I missing? :D :fp:

Also, make sure that when you hit lvl 30 and unlock Specializations, spend some time looking over each of the perk trees. You can inspect all three before making a choice. I wanted the crossbow so I went Survivalist and many of the new perks are for items I never use. The crossbow itself is nice but a different specialization would have made for upgraded turret features, which is my go to skill.

I haven't heard anything too funny yet, but I love how you can come up on warring factions and when I join in, they keep fighting. It other games the AI wouldn't be smart and they'd both turn on the user. A small thing that's really cool.

Man, I thought I had hit a wall last night that I would not be able to overcome on my own. I tried the Bank Headquarters mission last night, got all the way to the end when you run into Royce, and then couldn't fucking kill him. Between him and the seemingly neverending spawns of Hyenas, I died on that last part of the mission literally 10 goddamn times before I had to quit the mission and just move on for a bit.
After trying again today, I was able to kill him. I crafted new guns equal to my level (since my guns were still 1 or 2 levels below my current level at the time) and with higher damage, had some better gear that upped my health and armor and added damage bonuses for both weapons and against elites. And finally I did all the other side missions in Downtown West and liberated the district before going back and attempting the bank mission again, so I actually ended up being level 22 before I reattempted it as opposed to level 20 the first time.
I also changed my strategy. Instead of trying to kill the others first so I could eliminate as much of the incoming gunfire as possible and then focus on Royce, I ignored everyone else (except the snipers and grenade douches) and focused all of my firepower 100% on Royce right from the beginning, only shifting my aim if someone else got too close for comfort. Doing that, I had Royce mowed down in probably less than two minutes from the time he appeared and he actually never even got the chance to approach where I was taking cover as I just kept unloading clip after clip into his face until I finally broke his armor and killed him with the assist of an explosive RC car, courtesy of a Hyena Controller, that I shot and blew up right next to Royce.
So I got over my hurdle from last night and am moving forward. Now level 23 and moving on next to Constitution Hall. Slowly but gradually clearing the map.

That is the guy that makes one of the Strongholds very tricky. You have this guy chasing you, plus a machine gunner, sniper and your regular enemies. Turrets are useless with this guy, he just destroys them as long as they are in his reach.
Currently at 350 power level and about to hit WT3. I was incorrect about the specializations. They can all be used and upgraded. Backtracked to go get it, went maybe 30 meters and turned a corner and right there in front of me coming down the sewer is Mr. Chainsaw and his merry band of 4 Elite assholes.
Thank God I swapped my marksman rifle for my shotgun before entering the sewer, otherwise I probably would have been fucked going up against 5 elites at once. Instead, I unloaded my entire assault rifle clip into Chainsaw's face then switched to the shotgun and started fucking them up with point blank shotgun blasts.

:D I intentionally left out the part where all his friends are Elites. At least they are not named Elites. That is true! Thankfully, the way I have my gear set up, I've got a bonus of +77% Damage to Elites, so I melt those assholes. If I can't immediately melt their armor and drop them with my assault rifle, either my marksman rifle or my shotgun will fuck up their armor and then their face.
I've also gotten better at keeping weapons options. In the first game, and the first half of this game, I would run with ONLY an assault rifle and a marksman rifle. It wasn't until some missions where I was either getting overrun because I couldn't do enough damage fast enough, or I was running out of AR ammo, that I started carrying other weapon classes. Now I permanently carry one of each gun type with me, Assault Rifle, Rifle, Marksman Rifle, Sub Machine Gun, Light Machine Gun and Shotgun.
If I know I'm going to be fighting long range, I'll go assault rifle and either rifle or marksman rifle. If I'm inside a building, in the sewers or know I'm going to be facing multiple enemies at once and/or waves of enemies, I'll go assault rifle and shotgun. I don't use the sub machine gun or light machine gun very often, those are more my "I'm out of assault rifle ammo and if I didn't have these guns as a backup, I'd be fucked right now" guns.

Still running the LMG/Rifle Combo. I am starting to prefer the standard rifle over marksman, though I will use both. Just love having the 100 rounds on the LMG to take out multiple enemies w/o a reload. It lacks accuracy but in combination with my turret we can deal a ton of damage. Never been a fan of shotguns, outside of using them in Doom. That said I do keep a double barrel shotgun on me that drops in the pistol slot. Honestly I may have fired at most 50 rounds of the pistol and db shotgun. I also try to keep an SMG and AR on hand but once you hit end game you do not get to keep weapons for long as you are trying to reach the top gear score and the rinse and repeat 3 more times until you hit the 450 max at WT4.
Now we have WT5 coming on the 5th, so another tier to climb.
SmoothPancakes

The assault rifle is my preferred. With the right mods, I can get an assault rifle with over 75% stability and accuracy, plus between 60 and 75 rounds of ammo. So I end up with ammo close to that of most LMGs, plus with the super high stability and accuracy, I can put most rounds on target, even from distance. Add in my damage bonuses, and right now I absolutely massacre enemies with my AR. I can mow down an entire wave in under 20 seconds with deadly accurate aim.
I do love LMGs, I ran with LMGs a TON in the dark zone in the first game, since I had built my character up as a tank. Absurdly high armor, absurdly high health, and a pimped out LMG, I was usually the last one to die in my groups if shit hit the fan, because it would take the enemies so long to kill me, between my ridiculously high armor/health and my ability to suppress the shit out of them.
However, unless I'm fighting enemies in the same room, I've found LMGs way too inaccurate for me, too much recoil. The right assault rifle, with almost zero recoil, and I'll waste an entire group of elites faster with my AR than I will with a LMG. In the words of Denzel Washington in Training Day, I'm surgical with that bitch. I can quickly get multiple headshots and chest shots from 30+ meters without really trying. And once I get my aim lined up on someone's head, that's pretty much the next 5-10 rounds are going and by that time, the dude's dead.
As for shotguns, I always instantly marked shotguns as junk. However, I found a really good shotgun that does insane damage. The only downside of it is that it only has an ammo capacity of 5 shells, but I have yet to see any enemy other than a named elite survive more than 2-3 blasts to the face. Regular enemies are usually instakill, purple enemies are 2 shots, maybe 3 now and then, and elite enemies are 2-3 shots. Any time I go into the sewers or I'm in a building or interior room during a mission, I've got the shotgun equipped as my secondary. That baby is my close quarters insurance policy.

Hit the max 450 Power Level and realized that with some recalibrations you can bump the score over 450. I think 470 is the max but I still have some tinkering to do and need to get some matching sets to maximize bonuses.
Currently at 456. Need to get a gold pistol as it is weighing the average down.

Armor bars, I got some armor bars. Once you hit WT4, enemies can shred it pretty quick. I have seen people with 8 rows of armor bars so again, more tweaking required.

My baby, love me some LMG's. Though the Assault rifle is really good and with a magazine mod has a 60 round clip.

In this State of the Game Community Developer Chris Gansler and 3C designer, Fredrik Thylander talked about the changes that will be introduced with the “Invasion: Battle for D.C.” update on Friday.
Two biggies for me. Weapon mods were such a pain, due to the +/- nature of them. Outside of mags and removing scopes it was barely worth messing with them. Skill mods were terribly done in that most were so high you had to make a skill mod build to use them. I had no desire to do that and in turn only used the offensive/defensive/utility mods.
Skill Mods
The Skill Mods have been revamped
The Bonuses you get from the Skill Mods correlate now with the amount of Skill Power required to unlock them.
They are now within the bounds of the Skill Power that you can get on your gear and they also changed the amount of Skill Power that you get on your gear.
So even when you have less Skill Power on your gear when you log in on Friday, don't panic, you may be able to unlock a lot of mods that you could before.
With these changes skill builds should become a lot more viable.
Weapon Mods changes
As of now, the Weapon Mods always had a positive or negative aspect on them.
But that meant, what was designed as a reward for missions and activities could also have a very negative effect on your build
That is why all the Weapon Mods have been rewamped:
All weapon mods got new values, new positives, more in line what they would do in real life
They also have lower values – since they don’t have their drawbacks anymore.
The only time there are negatives now on the Weapon Mods is when there are multiple mods – like magazines – one of them will have higher positive values, but also some negative values.
For every slot, there is a mod for every type of stat that has no negative values.
Now you can choose the mods you want to use and that should also be more fun.

I'm almost to the endgame. I finished up the last couple side missions and my final two main missions tonight, the Federal Emergency Bunker and the Potomac Event Center. Liberated the West End and Judiciary Square, finished off any and all available projects The Campus, and that's it. All I have left to complete are the three strongholds.
Obviously there will be a lot more stuff popping up after I enter the endgame, as I'm only 97% done on side missions (including all the hidden ones), only 69% done on projects, and only 50% done on bounties. But, after 97 hours of gameplay, I am on the cusp of finishing the main story and moving into the endgame.

You will have plenty to do. Just finished the Tidal Basin Mission that was added today and entered World Tier 5. It was pretty easy for the group I was in, only one guy died a couple times. The same won't be said on Challenging mode. Just replaying story missions with 4 people on challenging was brutal. Now they added a Heroic difficulty. Hard pass for me on that. Outside of upping my gear to 500 (currently at 463) I will be waiting on the Raid coming out on the 25th. If it's anything like a Destiny raid it will be a clusterfuck for people like me who have to play with randoms. Hardly anyone uses their Mic in this game. Not to mention you have a group of eight people doing the raid. There is a reason why there is no matchmaking, outside of Guided matchmaking, for Destiny Raids.

One step closer to the endgame. After taking down today's bounties (other than challenging because fuck trying to do that solo), I just took down the Hyena stronghold at District Union Arena. Despite having fewer enemies (and especially waves of enemies) than I was expecting for a stronghold, I had a lot of fun with it! I'm definitely planning on replaying these strongholds again at some point.
I think I'm going to give the Outcast stronghold a try here in a few minutes before I head for the gym for the night, and I'll probably attempt the True Sons stronghold tomorrow sometime.

And goodbye to Emmeline Shaw and the Outcasts. That was closer to what I was expecting for a Stronghold assault. A lot more waves of enemies, more numerous enemies in each wave/section of the mission. And that last part when trying to stop the boat, that was fun as enemies just kept coming from multiple directions, keeping me on my toes and forcing me to constantly relocate and leap for cover to avoid being flanked or firebombed.
And then there was one. The Capitol Building and True Sons are all that's left. I expect this stronghold assault to be one hell of a wild ride. The Outcasts stronghold was far better and a better challenge than the Hyenas were, I expect another jump in both stronghold itself and a better challenge than Roosevelt Island.
The True Sons have had the best missions in the game in my opinion. I loved Lincoln Memorial and the Air & Space Museum, Space Administration HQ and ViewPoint Museum missions were all easily among my top favorite missions in the game.
So I expect the Capitol Building to be insanity of a mission and easily top all of the other missions in the game.

Well, I hadn't planned on doing the Capitol Building tonight, but after doing my daily Control Point rounds to collect all the weapons and gear from them, I teamed up with a guy through public matchmaking to do the challenging bounty with less than an hour before the servers shut down, then we proceeded to go do all the other bounties and then he started up the Outcasts stronghold, which we massacred with a team of four people.
Then with less than 30 minutes until the servers shut down, we massacred the Capitol Building with a three man team. We finished the mission with one minute left before servers went down. I just started the cutscene upon entering World Tier 1 when I got booted out of the server. :D
We raced the clock and we conquered. That was a lot of fun. I added both the randoms I went through the Capitol Building with to my friends list as we were absolutely kicking ass together.

Goddamn, now that I've been in the endgame for a day or two, there's almost too much to do now! :D
I thought my Control Points would be safe, since enemy attacks consist of like a whopping 4 or 5 enemies, all of them pretty much weak ass red bars except for a single elite, but nope, I've watched my Control Points be cut in half. I only control 7 now, down from like 12 or 13 when I first went and claimed a bunch Saturday afternoon.
Then there's The Campus, which it seems like every time I turn my back, those fuckers are constantly locked down because of one goddamn roadblock on a road three blocks away, so I constantly have to go attack the blockade so I can fast travel to The Campus.
And since I only control 7 Control Points currently on the map, I have to do a LOT of running to get from location to location, especially when I want to go and do bounties. Normally, that's not an issue, I love running from place to place and only really fast travel when trying to get from one side of the map to the other. Except for the fact I can't go one block without running into Black Tusk patrols, so by the time I get to where I want to go, I've exhausted all of my assault rifle ammo fighting my way through 50 different Black Tusk enemies.
Now, I will say, I had a really fun moment Sunday. I went to and took over the blockade that had The Campus shut down. Then right down the road was a Public Execution. While I was doing that, here comes an Elite Resource Convoy. While I'm fighting both the Elite Resource Convoy and the Public execution, a second regular Resource Convoy must have come past. Next thing I know, I'm fighting off about 10 different fucking waves of enemies from all directions. I completely ran out of assault rifle, rifle and LMG ammo. I was fighting off the final wave or two of enemies with my shotgun, my sub-machine gun and my pistol.
Another awesome moment, I stumbled upon a battle between a Black Tusk patrol and a True Sons patrol. I stood there watching Mr. Sledgehammer go one and one with Mr. Minigun. That was quite the battle to watch! I'm standing like 10 feet away from these two, even occasionally shooting at them, and they couldn't care less about me, they were 100% focused on killing each other. I saved video after watching that confrontation.
