Japan J1 League Added to FIFA 17

We are proud to announce that Japan's top flight football league, the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League and J.League Cup tournament will feature in FIFA 17 when the game launches this September.

As one of the most popular leagues in Asia, the J1 League has a global fanbase and is one of the most requested leagues from the EA SPORTS™ FIFA community. All 18 clubs that make up the J1 League will feature authentic logos, kits, and rosters. Content from these clubs will be in our popular FIFA Ultimate Team™ (FUT) and other modes across FIFA 17.

The clubs of the J1 League:

    • Vegalta Sendai
    • Kashima Antlers
    • Urawa Reds
    • Omiya Ardija
    • Kashiwa Reysol
    • FC Tokyo
    • Kawasaki Frontale
    • Yokohama F. Marinos
    • Shonan Bellmare
    • Ventforet Kofu
    • Albirex Niigata
    • Júbilo Iwata
    • Nagoya Grampus
    • Gamba Osaka
    • Vissel Kobe
    • Sanfrecce Hiroshima
    • Avispa Fukuoka
    • Sagan Tosu

In addition to all 18 clubs, Suita City Football Stadium, the new home of Gamba Osaka will be one of the new stadiums available in FIFA 17.

We’ll have more news on other leagues & teams, and stadiums for FIFA 17 closer to launch.

It's like everything other than FUT is an afterthought. Those other modes are not even cool enough to be named. Not even being subliminal in the marketing.

    BUY CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm always glad to see more leagues added but the J1 League is far down the list of leagues I'd like to see added.

Personally, I'd like to see Ukraine and more North and South American leagues added. Though any more North American leagues is probably a pipe dream.

Never had a want, need, or interest in playing in the Japanese League. However, I appreciate more authentic leagues and stadiums. Steeler, I agree on the Americas leagues needing to be added. MLS needs a lot of attention still as well.

They don't have complete MLS rosters?

I am pretty sure they do, they may not be 100% accurate but they are there. They even added a US Stadium last year (you can thank the women for that). The Japanese league was a smart attempt to get more Asian customers. Now they have Korea and Japan. I am sure China is coming as soon as they can figure out how to get someone from China to actually pay for a legitimate copy of the game.

I prefer to add countries not represented in the game over 2nd tier+ leagues but that is just me. So Israeli, Hungarian and Brazilian would be my top three. Sure NASL would be cool to have but we must be realistic.

From a FIFA 17 Survey, most requested leagues.

    Yes, they do.

I'm assuming that jaymo is referring to adding more North American leagues to make playing in MLS more interesting. Right now the only cup competition is simply consists of MLS clubs which makes it very dull.

Yeah, I've never cared for the US Cup in the game when playing as a MLS team. Like you said, with just MLS teams, it's really boring for a Cup competition.

Unless I am mistaken the MLS only participates in the US Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League, in regards to playing teams outside of the MLS.

The US Open Cup has teams from the NASL that are not in the FIFA game and they enter in the third round. The teams in the first two rounds include the USL and leagues and teams most people have never heard of.

    New York Pancyprian Freedoms (N.Y.)
    Southie FC (Mass.)
    Seacoast United Phantoms (PDL)
    Cincinnati Dutch Lions (PDL)
    Myrtle Beach Mutiny (NPSL)

Some of these first round matches are played on High School fields.

The CCL is in the same boat. A ton of teams/leagues from countries (Central American and Caribbean) that are not in the game and some that probably never will.

The only logical addition would be to make a fictional cup with the MLS and Liga MX.

I don't know what the solution is but I wouldn't be opposed to a fictional competition with Liga MX. Anything to add variety to playing in MLS would be fine with me.

I know that adding small North American leagues seems unrealistic but there are two reasons that I can think of that make it worthwhile.

First, licensing would be extremely affordable. If some league tries to gouge you, you take you customer base of 10-15 million elsewhere. They need you more than you need them.

Second, when I was approached to provide feedback for FIFA 12 and participate in a community event for FIFA 13 (I couldn't make the trip) a major part of the premise put forward by EA was that they wanted ways to make FIFA more accessible/interesting to North Americans.

It's fairly obvious to me that the biggest untapped market for them is the US. If they want to capture the casual football fan in the US the best way to do so is to make playing with an MLS club interesting.

All of that said, I don't think we'll see it anytime soon. It would be interesting though to see what happens if either FIFA or PES licensed some of these leagues, made MLS worthwhile and really tried to go after the casual American fan.

Personally, I'm good with playing in Europe but I'd love to see enough added to every Confederation that the game could one day feature the FIFA Club World Cup.

I laughed when I saw some of those matches being played on High School fields. Until they get played in bigger stadiums, I doubt EA will put them in the game.
