Ohio State upsets #1 ranked Florida State, 31-21
Tallahassee, FL -- It is common knowledge that a fumble, especially with one team already behind, can have a huge impact on the momentum of a game. But rarely does it flip the momentum to the side that lost the ball. Yet that is exactly what happened today at Doak Campbell Stadium. Ohio State trailed 14-7, just after the start of the 2nd quarter. The Buckeyes had just gained a first down with two rushes from backup HB Nathan Jackson, and starting HB Kris Davis took the field again. Davis would immediately fumble, the first by a Buckeye running back this season. Florida State recovered and things looked grim for Buckeye fans. The Seminoles, as they had up to that point, moved the ball with ease. But three straight negative plays, a rush for loss and two incompletions, forced a field goal attempt. Roberto Aguayo, the normally reliable kicker, hooked the ball left, and the Buckeye defense had held. Ohio State's offense turned that momentum into points, scoring quickly. The defense held again, forcing a punt after six plays, giving the Buckeye offense the ball with 1:05 left in a tie game.

Just to further set the scene, know that Buckeye QB Marcus Avery has not had the best passing efforts as of late. Against Florida Avery was a horrendous 9/24, with many of the completions coming on the clutch final drive in regulation. His performance last week was better, 12/17 for 186 yards, but nothing worth writing home about. And Avery missed 5 of his first 8 passes in today's game, contributing to the early hole the Buckeyes found themselves in. But he had started to heat up on the previous drive, and had hit his last 5 passes in a row. So with 1:05 left and only one timeout, Coach Jeff HCross trusted his senior quarterback's arm -- and Avery delivered. In perhaps the best drive of his passing career, Avery was 7/7, not including a spike, for 75 yards, including the touchdown with three seconds remaining in the half. That touchdown lifted the Buckeyes to a 21-14 lead headed into the locker room, and they wouldn't look back from there.

A career day from senior WR Tim Herron led the Buckeye offense. Herron pulled in nine catches for 135 yards and 1 TD. David Little contributed five catches for 67 yards and a TD as well. Kris Davis and Marcus Avery each had 15 carries for the Buckeyes, with 79 yards and 61 yards respectively on the ground.

For Florida State, Jameis Winston was almost the entire offense, throwing 18/27 for 279 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Winston also ran seven times for 27 yards, with all but one or two of those rushes coming on scrambles. Winston also took two sacks. Winston's interception came when the game was 28-21 and with the Seminoles driving. Ohio State was able to turn that turnover into a long clock-eating drive that ended with a field goal and put the game out of reach.

LSU escapes Georgia with a 52-45 win

The Tigers led 21-0 at one point in the 1st quarter after some efficient Offense and Georgia wanted to try to test the HB Screen repeatedly..costing them 2 interceptions one of which was returned for a TD by All-American 4-year starter Corey McIntyre.

Then came the very poor, 20 yard too short throws by Jeff Mosley who cannot throw a proper streak for the life of him...despite the WR being behind the defender and only 20 yards down field at the time of the throw. In 2 quarters the same Georgia CB picked Mosley off 3 times giving Georgia's Offense all the opportunities it needed to get back in the game.

Fortunately LSU was able to keep adding to the lead and picked some crucial 3rd downs late to seal the win.

QB Jeff Mosley battled an abdominal strain shortly after the half but remained in the game, despite exiting twice to have the injury looked at.

    Florida Survives #4 Alabama

The Gators started off slow in the first half and it wasn't until the last 30 seconds of the second quarter that things changed. That's when SS Tye Gray intercepted a 3rd down pass attempt from the Tide and ran it back 79 yards for the score. With the Gators getting the ball in the second half, they took the opportunity for their first lead of the game capping an 80 yard scoring drive on a 10 yard pass to TE TJ Bush for a 17-14 lead. The Gators would extend their lead when HB Michael Swan found the endzone with 6:33 left in the ball game. After that, the two teams would swap 3 & out drives before ultimately Alabama lead a scoring drive narrowing the score to 24-21 with 1 minute left.

On the ensuing onside kick attempt, it seemed like no Gator player could recover the ball, despite it being at the feet of 4-5 of them. The Tide recovered it giving them two timeouts and only needing 20 yards for a game tying FG. Immediately though the Tide were put behind the eight ball when DE Nick Martin bull-rushed through the line sacking Alabama QB David Cornwell for a loss of 8. On 4th & 15 from their own 45, Alabama needed a miracle but instead it was the Gator defense that made a play as CB Casey Jenkins snagged the second interception of the game. Three quick kneel downs and the Gators clinched their first conference victory of the season.

With the win, #25 Florida improves to 5-1 (1-0) on the season. The next two weeks will be recovery time for the Gators as they don't play again until Week 10 against South Carolina.
