Minnesota wins the BCS National Championship defeating Tennesse 45-21.

The game remained tight early with Tennessee tying the ball game at 14 apiece with 2:30 remaining in the 2nd quarter. That however still left Minnesota time to score 3 times before halftime setting their halftime lead at 31-14. The Gophers added another touchdown in the 3rd quarter and the two teams exchanged touchdowns in the 4th but those two minutes in the 2nd quarter were the deciding factor.

The Gophers won the game due to their stingy pass defense stalling the #1 QB in the nation, A. Bowen, to only 71 passing yards on 7 completions forcing a total of 5 interceptions on the day (4 from Bowen). The Volunteer running game did have a big day with HB J. Lee carrying the ball 25 times for 207 yards, however he only found the endzone once on the day.

On the opposite sideline, HB Brian Walker carried the ball 18 times for 134 yards with 2 touchdowns while Sr HB Berkley Edwards finished his career on a high note with 3 carries for 69 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was Edwards that lead the Gophers running game in the first half.

Defensively, MLB Rayfield Dixon was his usual highlight machine with 7 tackles, 3 Tackles for Loss, 1 Interception and 1 Forced Fumble which was in the Gopher's redzone. That closes out Dixon's senior season with 102 tackles on the season along with 29 tackles for loss, 5 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles.

With the win, Minnesota remains the only undefeated team in the nation and take home the crystal football.

After the game, coach Gschwendt addressed the media and fans and decided to pull a George Costanza announcing that he had accomplished everything he had ever hoped to at Minnesota and that now he just looked forward to a life of golf and fishing and sleeping under his desk.

This is the summer of Gschwendt!

Tennessee couldn't overcome Minnesota's stingy defense and loses in the National Championship.

The running game is the only thing that the Vols could get going as QB Anthony Bowen struggled in completing most of his passes. Senior RB Jabo Lee goes out with a bang and looks to continue his success at the next level. "It's not often you see a 2 loss team in the NCG," coach Marcotte said in the locker room after the game. "I'm proud of our seniors and the leadership they've displayed all season long, and win or lose, I couldn't be happier with what we achieved this season."

The Volunteers are now looking ahead to next season and the Rocky Top hopeful look to make another run at the title. Replacing RB Jabo Lee and 3 All-Americans on defense will be tough, but hopefully they can bring in a decent recruiting class and continue build up the program!!

    Good Game G!
