Yeah, that decision is already getting bashed online.

As for these special little World Cup games, meh, I'll pass. I can play the World Cup (not the official 2014 World Cup lineup of teams, but still the World Cup) as an international manager or player in FIFA 14. Good enough for me.

The rationale behind no PS4/XB1, via Polygon:

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil will be priced as a "front-line, full-featured console game," said Matt Prior, lead producer on the title at EA Canada, through an EA representative in an email to Polygon. Although he didn't provide a specific price, that presumably means the game will launch at $59.99.

Prior also confirmed that 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil isn't being developed on PS4 or Xbox One, although he noted that World Cup content is on the way to FIFA Ultimate Team for FIFA 14.

"When we made the decision we considered a number of factors but most importantly we wanted to create the best game we could that could reach as many people as possible and the way to do that was make our best game yet on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3," Prior explained. "We gave our team the mandate of setting a laser focus on building the highest quality game for [Xbox 360] and PS3 they could, and that's exactly what they are doing."

Personal guess/stance is that they viewed development cost not worth the return, given the relatively small next-gen user-base and game selection, especially with one FIFA game already available. They probably felt they would cannibalize the market. Plus it likely would have had development congruent with FIFA NG which may have slowed both titles.

Would have made more sense to have kept FIFA 14 off of next gen and put this game on next gen, imo.

That or just add the world cup stuff as DLC (which I'm pretty sure they did for either the World Cup and/or Euro) before.

Euro 2012 was DLC and was a failure. They can make a ton of cash on a World Cup game (casuals will buy it before they consider FIFA) so it's only smart to make it a stand alone.

Add to it the massive licensing costs and I doubt there is any room to make $ with it being DLC.

Go suck a dick EA, what a moronic decision. I played the crap out of WC 2010 and was looking forward to this. Enjoy your third straight shittiest cocksucking company in America. No, the WORLD since this is a FIFA game.

The company has followed up by announcing that the Xbox One and PS4 versions of FIFA 14 will receive World Cup content and tournaments in Ultimate Team.

Those sorry &%$#$@ %$#*&@ %&$#@*& lied to us. Found this posted at Neogaf.

Not only that but this is the same company that released FIFA World Cup 06 just after the 360 released and it had an even smaller customer base at the time.

Looks very good so far. Then again, all of the World Cup games are solid offerings. I still cannot believe though that this was not also developed for the PS4 and 1. Due to that fact I will be passing which is too bad because the qualifying phase is so much fun.
