Jaymo76 NCAA 14 to infinity and beyond!

With the demise of the NCAA franchise I have decided to begin a personal dynasty thread. At this point I have just wrapped up my fourth season. I started as the OC for my beloved ASU Sun Devils. I started with only one coach skill. In my five seasons I have moved up the ranks quickly. I am now rated a level 19 coach (with an emphasis on recruiting).

OC of ASU 12-2 (Alamo Bowl victory)
OC of ASU 7-6 (Fight Hunger Bowl victory)
    * didn't plan on leaving but the UNLV job was just too tempting. Plus ASU was looking very weak offensively so I had to make my move. Turns out this was a great decision.

HC of UNLV 11-3 (MWC Champs; Orange Bowl victory
HC of UNLV 13-1 (MWC Champs; Sugar Bowl victory)

My current contract runs until 2019 but I have A+ prestige and my stats back it up.

    record: 24-4
    job security: safe
    vs rivals: 2-0
vs top 25: 5-1 (including two wins vs. Michigan and one vs Alabama- Sugar Bowl)
    bowl record 2-0

My senior LE #84 John Schneider was made the NCAA 2nd team all star as was my stud MLB #52 Anthony Houston. My freshman CB #41 Greg Harris took home freshman all-ncaa honours (props to the Vancouver, Canada recruit). I also had 11 all MWC players.

In my second season as head of the Rebels I have won the prestigious coach of the year honours.

Granted my win in the Sugar Bowl sounds impressive but I assure you this was just dumb luck. I had a fumble recovery for a td and the Alabama kicker went 0-5 in fg attempts. I kicked a 39 yard fg with no time left on the clock to win 16-14. Alabama dominated but could not convert when it counted.

    Alabama total yards 464
    UNLV total yards 241

My team had 55 yards rushing in total. It was a lucky win but I will take it. Bama was ranked #3 while UNLV was #8 (with a super soft schedule to boot). I'm about to begin the offseason. I have a lot of holes to fill. It will be a long offseason.

We had great season and I am proud of my team! Our final ranking was #8. I figured it would have improved with our Sugar Bowl victory but that wasn't in the cards.

#2 Texas took home the NC with a 56-35 thumping of #1 Louisville. Ouch! Texas racked up 660 yards vs UL. Texas qb K. Davis went 25-31 for 517 yards and 8 TD's!!! Wow!!!

I have been offered a contract extension and I am thinking it over. UNLV is very happy with my coaching thus far. However, I have a tough decision to make as Georgia fired Mark Richt and LSU fired Less Miles as both teams went 4-8. Now both programmes want to hire me. Do I want to step up to the SEC??? Both jobs are offering 5 year contracts but the expectations are 11 win seasons. Can I leave my young UNLV team for the glamour of the SEC? I need some time to think about this.

    Tough decision, indeed.

Sometimes a move is good just to avoid having things become stale.

Not just that, but I'm not sure I'd want to turn UNLV into a power from the MWC. I'd consider moving them to the Pac 12, if you stay. That would eliminate some of the staleness and allow you to keep building that program while waiting for ASU to come calling.

UNLV offered me an extension past the 2020 season. The university is only asking for 5 wins per season. I like those odds! However, being open to any possibility I entered the carousel.

Some of My TOP offers included:

    In the running for:

I gave serious consideration to but in the end it just didn't feel right so I took the UNLV extension. Before I go up to the next level I still have something to prove.
My defensive coordinator Tyrone Dortch was a one and done. After one year of service he took over as HC at UL Lafayette. That's going to be one tough gig as he is only a level 5 coach. John Bailey, DC at Purdue has been hired to replace Dortch. He comes in at level 11 and will also run a 4-3, just how I like it.

On the Brightside my OC, Paul Petrino is staying with the team. He signed an extension to stick with the team through 2021. I am happy to have that continuity on offense with the playbook. This coming season we need to improve the running game. I still have not had a 1,000+ yard rusher at UNLV. That needs to change ASAP.

13 PLAYERS GRADUATED THIS YEAR. 8 were on the D and all 8 were starters. On the transfer front nobody expressed interest in the UNLV programme. However we also did not lose anyone via transfers. Nothing to speak of regarding the draft either as none of our players were selected. I was a little surprised that Houston was picked up but I guess that's life.

On the recruiting front we have two players who are key right now: WR/KR Mal Jalaal & RT Bobby Thomas. I'm going all out to make sure these two sign with us.

Yup Georgia offered but LSU went in a different direction. I was leaning to LSU but it wasn't in the cards. I am going to take it slow this season and see what I have but UNLV is not a long-term situation.

Overall, recruiting went very well in the second half of the season. I ended up having the 16th best recruiting class and won top honours for the Mountain West.

    no five stars
    7
    6
    3
    1

My receiving core gained the most as I picked up three 4 star receivers (Samuel, Maxwell, Jalaal). I also landed two studs on the D: OLB, Hancock & DE, Jones. I also landed the tackle I wanted (Thomas). He looks to be a big mauler type.

My pipelines are still California (26) and Nevada (8). However, I now have 4 players from the Great White North (what can I say... you have to represent right?). I also have two players each from Washington, Utah, South Carolina, and Hawaii. Right now my coaching skills have not focused on pipelines but that may change this season.

As a new season is about to dawn I have three out of conference games. I need to finish UNLV-Idaho series but two new series will begin this season.

    Week 2: @
    Week 3: @
Week 4: vs @ neutral site~ MET LIFE STADIUM

As we start the season I feel pretty disrespected. We went from 8th last season to 42nd overall.

    Ratings:

    ovr: B
    off: B+
    def: B-
    spt: B-

Bama is #1 with A+ across the board.

Sam Boyd is moving up on toughest places to play. We are now at #56. We have a 10 game win streak going. Let's hope that increases this season. As for the conference, I am expected to win my division but SD State will give me a run for my money.

    Star profiles; 2017 SEASON

Each season I am going to have a new feature~ star profiles. They will give a quick overview of 2-3 key players for the upcoming season. For this season the offense is will be strong and that depth comes from the qb and wr positions.

    1. QB #12 Travis Dixon (senior)

Travis Dixon is the total package of quarterbacks. He is an ovr 97; has an absolute cannon for an arm and can run the read option for good yardage when in a pinch. However, Dixon has the uncanny ability of turning into Jay Cutler during games and going ice-cold. His record as a starter is impressive but the tale of the tape shows a different story. Last year he was pulled in 5 games due to accuracy/interception issues. He is a career 67% passer but he has almost as many int’s as he does td’s.

Last year as a starter he threw for over 2700 yards with 16td’s and 15 int’s. Consistency will be huge for Dixon. He has the ability to be a star but will he live up to his potential? A big season means Dixon will be headed for the draft. A mediocre season like last year and Dixon’s football career is over. OC Petrino’s offensive style may not totally work for Dixon but going into year two with the same scheme should help Dixon greatly improve his craft.

    2. WR #86 Brian Gray (Junior)

Brian was my first actual signee when I arrived at UNLV. He came in to the programme at the last moment. He was not highly recruited by other programmes primarily because of his speed. Let me just say that he is slow. Most CB’s have a 5-10 point speed advantage. However, what Gray loses in speed he makes up for in catching. The guy catches literally everything thrown to him. He has flourished in OC Paul Petrino’s Illinois based offensive scheme. The short yardage game and a heavy dose of slants allowed him to make 72 receptions last year and 6 td’s.

Brian Gray is highly under-rated. He gets no love in all-star voting but he single-handedly has won us multiple games over the past two seasons. Gray is not flashy or exciting but he is an amazing possession receiver. He even moonlights as a kickoff and punt returner (however this year Mal Jalaal will be the primary returner so as to try and avoid injury for Gray).

This team is as much dependent on the hands of Gray as it is on the arm of Dixon. .. However, the wildcard of the deck this year will be the offensive line. Two rookies will be starters. Plus the LG position is extremely weak! Will Dixon have the time he needs to throw or will he be running for his life? Also will the running game under new starters Brown and Palmer give the offense enough variety or will it be solely an air-raid attack?

Starting off the season with a bye-week. In recruiting I have decided to go all in with A stud #1 ranked 4* DE, Simon Clermont. The kid is from Vancouver and he's a monster... 6'10 250 pounds. Right now it's a 7 team race and I'm at the bottom. If I can land this kid it will be a huge move for UNLV.

I'm also going all in on Gill Simon a mountain of man who plays guard. The kid is out of Saskatoon, 6'8 and 304 pounds. He's a run block specialist and that's what I need. Currently I am in 8th place...

    Other notables I'm pursuing include:

    DE Cory Schmidt
    QB Matt Bullock
    ATH Chad Daniels
    k Jermaine Winston
    MLB Jed Davis
    MLB Roderick Miller

The opening week kicked off with a bang. The upsets this week were huge.

    Temple 48 @ #14 ND 26
    #8 South Carolina 38 @ # 2 FSU 28
    #1 Alabama 39 @ Michigan St. 42

Nobody in MWC played so week two is where it al begins.

Idaho and UNLV battled it out during a monsoon in Vegas...

We started like gangbusters but that didn't last. After moving down the field at will on the first drive and scoring a td the offense began to sputter. The O line has major issues and Dixon was feeling the heat all of the first half. However, the run game was pretty decent. The biggest issue... DEFENCE or lack thereof. At the end of the first half the score was 21-14 as I scored a ts with 4 seconds left.

The big story though, my D was just being ripped. At the half we were struggling but a light was switched on in the 2nd and we ended up pulling away with some long drives. The final was 30-14 UNLV. It was a win but not an impressive one.

    * we gave up 313 yards to Idaho and 444 yards overall
    * Dixon was sacked 3 times and hit about 8 times
    * OL run blocking was weak at times
    * almost no DL pressure on Idaho's qb
    * Dixon threw yet another bad int

As for the positives, two things stand out.

Freshman wr #14 Robert Samuel: 6 catches for 75 yards and 1 td
freshman returner #76 Mal Jalaal: 2 catches for 20 yards and 134 yards in the return game

The big decision for next week is at rb. My starter Fuller was weak and his backup Brown played a strong game. Do I make the switch after one week?

Good stuff Jaymo. Damn, Idaho must have stocked up on some Canadians of their own. They usually get steamrolled in my dynasty.

So true! My D is pretty soft and I cannot get pressure. I am playing Georgia this week and if my D can't play better then it will be ugly. What really hurt is that Idaho was running a spread no huddle attack and my guys were exhausted. I am very nervous about playing Georgia. I really have no feel for the game yet.

Plus, the MWC started off strong with the most notable win being Wyoming taking out #11 Oregon 45-42. Last year I barely beat Wyoming (last second win if I recall). There could be a power shift in the MWC this year. It also looks like Boise St. has retooled after two weak seasons.

Looking forward to hearing more on your dynasty Smooth. I will let you know how Utah and Tulsa are doing in my world next time I log on.

    Game 2 (1-0) @ (0-2)

The game started badly for UNLV. It was 10-0 after the first two possessions. Georgia ran the ball at will and Dixon threw a pick early. After some major D adjustments and moving to a zone blitz scheme our d caught up. We then scored 10 straight to tie it up. Dixon was on fire. Georgia then drove down the field and hit a 47 yard fg to take the lead going into the half (13-10).

To open up the second half Georgia had the ball and again our D buckled. Georgia went all the way down the field and scored a td. Passing and running... we could not stop them. Our offense got the ball and came out ice cold. The run game under Fuller was brutal. Three and out and then the Georgia O was on the move again. Georgia's offense was methodical, simply carving us up... and then my free safety #32 Waters picked off the Georgia QB in the UNLV end-zone to give us some life.

A 49 yard field goal for #1 Morris (UNLV) pulled us to within 7 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Georgia was still up 20-13 but we had life. However, Georgia drove the field again, with an unstoppable passing game... and just like that the score goes to 27-13 Georgia.

Not willing to go quietly, we moved to a no-huddle air raid offense. Mal Jalaal scored a td on a 61 yard bomb. Just like that it's 27-20 Georgia. Finally our D hold and we get the ball back!!! Then Dixon throws his second pick of the game... Georgia, already in UNLV territory went into a ball control offense and ran the clock and then took it to the house to go up 34-20.

On our last offensive drive we had four dropped passes and failed to convert on fourth down. Georgia took the ball and ran out the clock. We had a chance but no run game and two costly picks cost us any chance in this game. The D played well at times but overall was pretty inefficient. Georgia had 368 yards of offense, including 176 rush yards. The only bright spot for UNLV was the play of Mal Jalaal (4 rec for 115 yards and 1 td + 181 kick return yards)

With that UNLV goes to 1-1. Coach jaymo is NOT happy!!!

    Game 3: (1-0) @ (1-1)

Game three kicked off at Met Life Stadium. UNLV entered the game with a struggling defense and a sputtering run game. RB Brown (#33) has replaced RB Fuller (#27) at starting RB and true freshman RB, Coker (#6) moves to 2nd on the depth chart.

Wake starts with the ball and drives down the field for an easy td. We then get the ball and a real shocker here... Dixon throws an int. Wake gets the ball and just like that it's 14-0 2 minutes into the game. I then relied on a heavy dose of Brown running the ball and it resulted in a UNLV td to make the score 14-7. Wake drove the field again and came away with three to move ahead 17-7.

The first quarter ended 17-7 but we were on the move. The drive ended with a six yard rd pass from Dixon to Gray. That made the score 17-14 Wake. On Wakes next possession my Cb Harris came up with a pic at Wakes 36. My fb Prince Harris gave UNLV the lead with a 1 run td to make the score 21-17 UNLV. Wake gets the ball back and it's three and out. With time running out Dixon moves us down the field and connects with Gray for another td. We go up 28-17 but Wake drives again all the way to the three and then kicks an fg with 3 seconds remaining. The score is 28-20 at the half.

We get the ball to start the second half and drive all the way down the field and then like a poorly written novel, Dixon throws a big int. The guy has all the talent in the world but he throws non-stop pics. Wake shreds my secondary and gets an fg to make the score 28-23 UNLV. Jalaal fields the ball and gets a 52 yard return to give us great field position. From there Dixon hooks up with Gray for a third td strike and UNLV moves ahead 35-23. Wakes qb shreds the secondary again and just like that it's 35-30. The UNLV has just been dreadful.

To start the fourth both teams refuse to play D. UNLV drove down the field and Brown ran it in from six yards out. That made the score 42-30 UNLV. Then finally a punt! UNLV stopped the Wake O!!! With the time left UNLV runs the clock and and takes home a 42-30 victory. D was awful but the O had a great game.

Some key stats for the game:
    Dixon 27/33 300 yards 3td's 2 ints
    Brown 25 carries 124 yards 4.9ypc 2 td's
    Gray 7 rec 74 yards 3 td's
Samuel (fr) 7 rec 85 yards
    UNLV D: 4 sacks
    UNLV total offense: 436 yards
    Wake passing game: 327 yards

Yeah, it looks like you're going to be in for a tough fight in the MWC this year. Damn Wyoming has gotten good, knocking off #11 Oregon. Impressive. Best of luck man, you're gonna need it.

And sounds good man. I'm gonna try to fire up my next dynasty game sometime this afternoon. Get the joy of taking on UNLV. And definitely looking forward to how Utah State and Tulsa do in your dynasty. Hopefully they keep up their winning ways.
