Madden 13's wrong photo leaves NFL star incensed

Madden NFL 13 endured league star Marcus Thomas' ire yesterday, Kotaku discovered, after the New York Giants player discovered the game had a photo of a completely different Marcus Thomas in his profile. The Marcus Thomas it did feature (below right, after the break) last played in the league three years ago. To make things worse, he didn't even play at the same team (Denver Broncos), and he looks nothing at all like the first Marcus Thomas (below left). All of that incensed the first Marcus Thomas.



In a furious flurry of tweets – well, maybe not that furious – Thomas branded the football game "unprofessional" and "disrespectful." The defensive tackle's temper apparently cooled down once content producer Donny Moore tweeted he'd make the fix in Madden 13's next update. As yet, we've yet to hear what the other Marcus Thomas thinks about that. Or Belgian actor Marcus Thomas. Or Marcus Thomas, LLC.

While we're talking about photos ... seems to me that the in-game draft uses real photos. At least they looked real (didn't see them close enough to tell). If so, where'd they come from?

Ten days ago, Marcus Thomas decided he'd had enough of being identified by some other Marcus Thomas' mugshot in Madden NFL and took to Twitter to complain about it. Two days later, he was released by the New York Giants.

Well, not only is he looking for work, he's looking for a face, too. Madden NFL 13 updated its roster overnight, putting Thomas in the free agent pool with this blank picture, which probably accurately reflects most people's mental image of a guy who fell off the map after the 2008 season and appears headed into involuntary retirement.

If you're wondering why this picture of Thomas couldn't be used, my guess is thatMadden has to use official league press book mugs that depict every player in a blank jersey, and he's in a Broncos shirt here. Of course, Thomas was in the league last year, so presumably one of him was taken then. EA Sports earlier declined to comment on the snafu, which appeared to begin when Marcus Thomas was joined on the Broncos, briefly, by another Marcus Thomas, a running back, and their mugshots got swapped.

I find it funny because he was bitching about having the wrong picture on his player profile in the game, and now he has no picture, just a blank, black cut-out. I sincerely doubt it was an intentional "fuck you" from the Madden guys to Thomas, but I sure would laugh my ass off if that was the case.
